I am so sorry. For some reason the subtitles that are in my video, during the small parts Japanese is spoken, did not export (and don't show up in the video itself). I translated those parts in UA-cam's captions, so you will need to turn on the "CC" to understand the Japanese. So the corrected English subtitles and translations are up. Here is the link for the "shorts" videos of some of the vendors at TIPS: ua-cam.com/play/PLY0zOX4Za7UZf57CXBZkZ4JIVdGe0-eA5.html I have three up now and will be putting up about 20 more in the next few days, so check back!
How lovely to see Ben Walsh at the show. Good to see him getting away from his workshop. I'd volunteer like a shot, but I'm guessing speaking Japanese is probably a must.
Thank you for the wonderful insite of the show,I am 75 years old and know I could never make it there but your video had me there right in the show.Thank you so much.
Ok, Ok, paused at 11:50 to comment to say ... I've been away from your videos for waaaayyyy to long. I love your style, your speaking voice, the content, videography, the pens, ink, Japan, and on, and on, and on . . . Ok, back to the video . . . If I could attend, I would be there in a heartbeat. If I could volunteer, you couldn't keep me away! The volunteers look like they were in bliss. Thanks for such a heartwarming video!!!! :sigh:
That venue looks beautiful on the outside as well. Thanks for sharing different vendors we don't get to see often outside of Japan. I'll be checking out your Shorts :)
Never been to a pen show and watching some of the footage gave me butterflies in my stomach. I want to buy every there and just surround myself with it.
Love the cat and mouse motor bike! Vroom! I enjoy the ink pours and bottle "throws" too, but I readily admit I also cringe more than a little when you do it! You have a wonderful smile that lights up your entire face - it's impossible to not smile back. Thanks for the tour.
Thanks so much! I just don't want you to fall asleep during my video hahaha! I've got it down now that I usually use only about the equivalent of 2-3 ink fills on a pen.
Oh what fun!!! I feel like a child again looking at the Sears Wishbook ... pen edition lol. The glass pens are stunning .... I have a cat that likes them too much (shiney) so I can only look at those. Oh my I can't imagine having that many temptations all in one place!!! 😆💙✒🎼 Thank you for this cool behind the scenes backstage pass!!!!!
Every time there is a new video from you, it brightens my day. You somehow managed to make the experience seem calm - my last pen show was anything but!
Fascinating look into TIPS! Thanks for the great shots. The pens and inks on display are gorgeous, but above all I love that they treat the volunteers and vendors well. I hope the event runners at the new California Pen Show in February will be running a show more like this.
This video is one I was most excited for since you mentioned the format change and that you were putting it together! Thanks for the vid, Inky! A lot of neat pen accessories in this vid.
hahaha! His was a bit tricky as I was filming and trying to get his explanation with a crappy mic. I really should get better equipment but that means less money for pens so...
So happy to see that you are back! I missed your vidéos. I loved this one. The pens & inks were interesting, but the last part where the volunteers speak to us i thought was great! Just wish I understood Japanese! Have a good week!
ThAnks so much for your comment. I had not realized my subtitles did not export. So I had to translate the UA-cam subtitles. It was SOOO aggravating since the Japanese parts aren’t going to make sense unless translated.
Its great to have you Back. I really enjoyed this video. I' m looking forward to your shorts. I think your videos are really interesting and so very colorful. Thank you so much.
Aloha e A. Happy to see your fun take on TIPS and the history, dramatis personae, and fun reasons for its success -- including Yokohama soul food, shumai for volunteers. @@InkyRocks Thanks. Yes, I spent a 1/2 year in Tsukuba (2x) and Machida once… but haven’t been back since C-19. I was more excited about libraries, museums, galleries and photography than FPs then so I have a lot to catch up on ….
Wonderful video! Many thanks for bringing us news of the Tokyo pen and stationery world- and also very glad to see you back with more videos! I must try to attend the November 2023 pen show!
You fit so much nice storytelling into this relatively short video. What a gift to see TIPS through your lens. Looking forward to the shorts that are yet to come. Thanks so much for all of it!
Amazing video! With shorts, it's a bit like going on a pen show yourself, choosing the stands... A very lovely video too!! TIPS truly looks like a dream. (And congrats to Bruce xDD) Thank you again for a very lovely video.
It really is a great show and Tokyo is fun to visit. I'm thinking of doing a bit of a "travel to Tokyo" advice video. It really is a tourist friendly city in that it's safe, reasonably inexpensive and interesting. I showed up in my vid as it was a New Year's resolution and It's the end of November and was running out of time!

My first time watching this. What fun! I’d volunteer in a heartbeat. Great vid. I’d love to meet Ben Walsh. Stationary Mecca sounds like Heaven. 😂 ✌🏽🙌🏽✌🏽
Can you volunteer if you only speak little Japanese? I'm planning a month long trip from mid-October to mid-November and in case I can't snag a regular ticket I was considering volunteering. Especially since you showed how much fun it could be!
I just came back from a volunteer meeting and with the amount of tickets they are selling, it should not be a problem getting a ticket. The Covid rules are letting up here so they will be able to sell more and this years show will be 2 floors! If you decide to volunteer, you would need to attend meetings (can be done by zoom).
