This and Elder Dragon Hijinks are miles ahead of the other shows I've watched. There are a few other good ones, but in the churning sea of Commander content, anything involving Olivia and Eilidh stands out like a beacon.
This is a pretty egregiously white cast so the older ones prolly haven't had as much exposure to black culture and such. I say this as a white dude myself.
I cannot express how much this is just a D&D party playing MTG together. Jacob is the musically spirited Bard, Kyle as the quick witted and sarcastic Rogue, Olivia as the no-nonsense Necromancer (because: obviously), and Brian as the group's "dad" fighter/paladin.
Love the special effects that they put in this show to have two versions of Brian at the table. Confused at first but they really love Science Brian and Gamer Brian. Honestly just need a full show with four Brians playing against each other each with their own schtick. Loving this series and can't wait for another episode.
@@lowkaytong8407 I could be wrong, but I believe it' in reference to Shuffle Up & Play Episode 20 (where Olivia and Brian were guests). The premise was each player was to make a deck for one of the other players to play. The Professor, wanting the deck he gave to the third guest Gavin Verhey to be "good," outsourced his deck construction to someone else.
Fun fact, the OG instruction of MtG was to put your lands in front. It was part of the idea that the opponent's creatures had to first cross your lands. So in the early years of magic we all played with the lands in front.
Man this has to be the best crew so far. To play commander, ever, I mean. Also Jacob should be introduced as Brian and Olivia’s son, just officially. Name tag and all.
I was constantly worried that if Brian and Kyle made too much physical contact with one another, they'd merge together like the end of Time Cop! A great episode again, and now I kinda want someone to make a proxy of Riku of Two Reflections with Brian and Kyle lol.
I can’t help but keep catching that person in the back with the phone 😂 still loving this episode so far! I love you guys! And I LOVE these guest. Kyle and Jacob are amazing!
I'm 4 episodes in, and I wonder if I just never noticed in the first 3 episodes. I only went looking in that corner because Kyle said "you can't sigh off camera" when he made the rolled a 7 joke when Brian's initiative roll fell in his lap and Jacob said it was a 1... otherwise, I might have never noticed, and continued in ignorance...
Brian was my second to last opponent at my first Grand Prix, I was X-1-0. I lost against him and my next opponent, I had no idea who Brian was. His card flicking was definitely intense 😂 I appreciate this guy so much. By far my favorite MTG pro ever. Thank you again for the advice my guy.
Definitely one of the most natural feeling edh channel, the banter and the dialogue doesn't feel super forced like a lot of other channels. Really enjoyed all of the vids so far!
The four cascades are seperate triggers, so when you hit a card on one, you cast that spell and the resolve it, before resolve any of the other cascade triggers. It usually doesn't matter, but when you cast creatures you trigger Chulane which affects what's on top of your library, and the order of the cascaded spell can matter (like the primordial vs elesh norn).
My absolute favorite new commander content. Everyone brings the good vibes each and every week and I’m always looking forward to the newest episode. Thank you for all the effort put into making this channel and content.
First hearing about your channel on "Tolarian Community College" and making the decision to check the channel out. I found myself being drawn to seeing who your guests are, what decks you are playing and looking forward to each new video you produce. I love the style, the casual feeling and interaction and the focus on balancing gameplay with personal reactions to plays. Both of you and your crew deserve an applause for your hard work! You all should be proud or what you have created! Well Done!
I really love when Kyle and Jacob as guest. Brings so much energy and smiles. I really enjoy watching them with you two. Please keep bringing them back
Loved this episode! For next time, apex devastator does not resolve like it was showed. The first cascade trigger must resolve first before cascading into the second one. So Force would be decided and bottomed first, then cascade into wake, that gets cast, etc etc until Norn is the last to be cast off of the 4th cascade.
I freaking love this show everything from the intro to the credits is exactly the feeling I want in a game of commander. It's one of my favorites amongst the many great commander shows
I am now waiting for the episode of "commander at home the musical" with jacob bertrand and it just has kyle in the background shaking his head for about an hour :D In all seriousness great episode, loved every second of it and can't wait for the next one!
Between brian and Olivia's wonderful channel , the profs channel and command zone I've found some of my favourite content ever. You are all so awesome!!! 🥰 the little doggy is so darn adorable too 🥰
Jacob is back!!! And you got Brian Kibler from Because Science! He's got such great hair. It was such a fun episode! As always, the table chemistry is great and it's fun laughing along with everyone at the jokes and quips. A couple mistakes with Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite (Mistakes that didn't really matter but I'm contractually obligated to point out because I'm a nerd.) Olivia's manifest would have died due to state-based actions and after Brian died to commander damage during the first strike step, Jacob's dragons would have gotten bigger again, dealing more damage to Kyle and making more treasures.
Really loving the show you two! Only started playing commander a couple years ago but I've been following Kibler since early Hearthstone. Keep it up y'all :)
It's really heartwarming to see a family play together. Dad, with his lovely wife, son, and annoyed little brother just having a big time around the commander table. So wholesome.
Loved this episode! Cast and guests were amazing. Writing this while still in the introduction because I know a commander game with these four will be legendary.
Every commander at home episode has made me laugh and want to play even MORE COMMANDER (which is shocking, cuz I play A LOT) Thank you for the laughs and content. I need to see more interactions between Jacob and Kyle
Jacob getting treated as a small kid and Brian and olivia treating him as a their child specifically is so true when you are 5+ years younger than all the others
36:00 I hate to correct a Pro Tour player, but the spells off Apex Devastator don't resolve in reverse order. Per the ruling from 2020-11-10: "Each instance of cascade triggers and resolves separately. The spell you cast due to the first cascade ability will go on the stack on top of the second, third, and fourth cascade abilities. That spell will resolve before you exile cards for the second cascade ability. The spell you cast for the second will resolve before you exile cards for the third, and so on." So you'd decide whether or not to cast Force of Will, decide not to, and put it to the bottom. Then reveal to Mirari's Wake, decide to cast it, resolve the cast. Then reveal to Solemn Simulacrum, decide to cast it, trigger Chulane, resolve Chulane's trigger (assuming you still put the Temple into play, resolve the temple ETB), resolve the spell, trigger the ETB on Solemn, and then resolve the ETB on Solemn. Then reveal to Elesh Norn, decide to cast it, trigger Chulane, resolve Chulane's trigger, resolve the spell. Then resolve state-based actions that would remove creatures your opponents' control with toughness lower than 3. Then resolve Apex Devastator.
Jacob's comment about lands up front made me think of people who tap their land to the left. It's just not natural. Edit: As a small point of note, Brian cannot resolve his effects at 29:22 in that order. Not sure it matters in the long run, but technically speaking, Chulane is on cast, not ETB, so it resolves first in all cases, before the wood elves actually hit the field and place their own trigger on the stack. It may have mattered if Oracle was still in play, because he changed the top card of his deck before drawing, but when you don't have a way of knowing what that card is beforehand, changing it effectively doesn't do anything, so I don't think the outcome was affected in any statistically measurable way. Just wanted to point it out because trigger orders tend to matter in general, and it's better to be in the habit of playing them correctly. Cascade triggers can be resolved before or after Chulane, player's choice, because they both trigger off the casting of the spell, but ETB effects always happen afterwards. I'm fairly certain Brian knows this already and it was just a misstep in the moment, but I thought it worth clarifying. On a similar note, it should be noted that all 4 cascades from apex predator resolve independently (the card even says as much, stating "multiple instances of cascade each trigger separately." Meaning that you find and cast the first spell, THEN draw from Chulane and play a land, before looking for the next cascade trigger. Finding all four spells before resolving any of the Chulane triggers is also technically incorrect play. It's casual format, so it's fine I'm sure (especially considering Kibler was still not in a commanding spot afterward), but just for anybody wondering about the technicalities of mtg (of which there are many, lol), that is the correct way to do things.
Really? I naturally tap my things to the left. It just feels more natural to me somehow. I don't specifically do it and it wouldn't bother me to do it to the right, it's just the way my hands do it. I think a couple of my friends do that way too, but I'm not sure
@@joedoe7572 I was intentionally exaggerating, but yes, tapping to the left is highly unusual, so it stands out when people do it. The "tap" symbol has an arrow that specifically shows a clockwise rotation, and I assume that is why tapping to the right became the norm.

Also Kyle should have actually taken more damage in the second last swing. Since Bryan died after the first one, the Elesh Norn would have fallen away and the second hit would have been +4 damage (2 power *2 creatures) But it made zero difference in the end and was a great vibe. Mistakes are part of the game 🚀
It's a fair callout though. I play a lot of Maelstrom and it pains me every time someone tries to convince me its in reverse order for whatever reason. If we don't mention it, nobody will learn!

+1 to Kyle and Go Shintai, I vastly prefer deck builds like that over just grabbing the most powerful commander. An added deck building constraint for me was to have all cards other than non-basic lands have the word "Of" in the name. It works surprisingly well, and all the shrines have of in the name so it's only restricting the rest of the deck.
I'm actually in the process of building a Go-Shintai shrines and curses deck. My constraint is that everything needs to be an enchantment outside of lands. I'm debating on sticking Thassa in there to blink removal enchantments too :D

This has been my favorite episode so far! This felt like being there watching friends play.
