    My mom had a Nissan Altima for a long time and I loved that car. Strong 4 cylinder, very roomy and quiet, good steering feel. I saw one of these on the street on Monday and it looks pretty good to me.

    Nissan did bring a lot of innovations to main stream, they did push button start and CVT for many years now. SV is my favorite trim fore most models they make simply can't get another model at that type of street price price point. CVT is great, drives fine, you only notice it when you push it to the limit and even then you get the advantage of keeping RPM high.

    Man, I wish more midsize and compact sedans offered all wheel drive. I mean, I know Subaru does that, but I really think Honda, Toyota, and Nissan would really blow Subaru out of the water if they offered all wheel drive too.

    • @mykullee
      @mykullee 8 років тому +2

      +John Appleseed It would not be practical of the manufacturers to do so.
      First, the point of these cars is to have more room (especially more so for compact segment cars) but putting AWD means more mechanicals which not only intrude in interior space, it adds weight as well - thus worsening fuel economy (not good for these segments!!!)
      Second, the manufacturer does not take custom orders like a high-end exotic manufacturers like Bentley, Rolls-Royce, so they build cars they think they'll sell the most. The factory needs to know how many of what trim cars they need to build, and with AWD in the mix, it's just a choice to too many trims and too many options and they'll waste money on a specific build of a car that not many people will buy. Mainstream dealerships for Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai, etc... do not call the factory to custom build any cars. That's why dealers have network and connection with other dealers to call each other to trade vehicles (e.g. "My customer needs Nissan Altima 3.5L, we have 2 Altima's with 2.5L cars, could we trade?") if they need them.
      Third, it's just not that useful. Trust me, as a Canadian living in Ontario (where it snows like hell), it's not even needed. It pisses me off when people think AWD will get them through winter, but it's such bs. The *winter tires* are what REALLY gets anyone through winter. I owned '15 Mazda6 and & '16 Mazda3 (both FWD, 2.5L), and I've gotten through both winters fine. All you need is a really sturdy, reliable, and dependable set of winters, and you'll be fine. Even on my RAV4, AWD is just rendered useless... FWD does the job fine. AWD wastes fuel most of the time anyways.

    If there are last gen Altima's available, I'd rather go for that. This new model is pretty much the same on the inside and its really disappointing. We owned the last gen for a while, and the interior is nice but it is just outdated looking now. A bit plain, and the cup holders are poop. The most that fits inside is a medium cup of DD coffee! Try fitting a large soft drink and you'll have trouble with it. Sad to see largely the same cup holders in the new Altima. Other than my minor gripes with the interior, the car was great anyway. Great fuel economy and the car was always smooth! It was a comfortable ride as well. One thing I do wish, as did another commenter below, was that midsize and compact sedans offered AWD. Only Subaru seems to do AWD on their sedans and other manufacturers need to do this! What else do you think about it Dave? Would you ever see yourself daily one of these?

    My last rental was a 2016 Altima with only 1,000 miles on the clock. I usually wouldn't rate a car based on a rental since people trash rental cars but this was new. Adding to ED's review. Trunk is large but 3 26" suitcases were a tight fit. Seats were decent with good comfort and support but my Volvo seats are much better. I found the car noisy on the road compared to other mid-sized cars I drove. The engine struggled with normal acceleration and frankly sounded anemic and bad. Handling was competent, no sports car but good control for spirited drive. Much better than earlier Nissans I drove that had numb handling. Seems like a solid value for a good all-around car but I'd probably get a Mazda 6 over the Altima.

      I just got a 2016 Honda Accord Sport with CVT. I hate the CVT but Honda has done a great job with it. It feels good in city driving. The Sport trim comes with paddle shifters which simulate shifting and works great. You can down shift or upshift when you desire. Not sure if it holds the revs up high or upshifts. But I know it down shifts for you if you don't. Love the LEDs, 19 inch wheels and the black out interior. The sound system could be better. Definitely check it out. They also offer a 6 speed manual which are rare.

    Nissan will conduct its third Altima recall in three years next month, all of which will have addressed the same issue: faulty hood latches.
    Worldwide, nearly 930,000 2013 through 2015 Altimas, including 846,000 that were made and sold in the U.S., will be affected by the recall. Nissan dealers will replace the latches, which tend to rust once their protective coats of paint chip off, free of charge.

      absolutely not true, yes there are hundreds of complaints about those brands too, but it's always for different years and different issues, usually very minor issues.
