Emperor Zhu Di decided to move the capital from Nanjing to Beijing for several reasons. One key reason was that he staged a coup to dethrone his nephew and claim the throne, which led to widespread riots, making Nanjing an unsafe place to live.
The emperor with the most concubines in Chinese history was Sima Yan around AD 270, who probably had more than 10,000 concubines, while the emperor with the most children was Zhao Ji (1082-1135) of the Song Dynasty, who had 80 children and was the first emperor in China to open a retirement home and create universal health insurance. Although the emperor had many children, they could only remember the names of the first 10 children, many children they had never seen in their life, many concubines they had only seen once, and even many of them had never met, because many times they were only servants who appeared beside the emperor, and there were more than 100,000 people serving the emperor in the imperial palace at the most.
