Also, if the cardstock has some sort of coating on it, not all powders will work the same. I went from a terrible image to a perfectly crispy clear one on the same piece of cardstock jut by swapping out the embossing powder to a different one.
When I only had dye inks but wanted embossed colour, I would ink with my fast drying coloured dye ink, then restamp overtop with clear embossing ink and clear emboss. Sometimes I'd just ink from the versaclear then immediately pounce into the dye colour, stamp and emboss. Worked great! I am an overheater though... and hand cream victim. 😂 thanks for the tips/reminders!
I already knew all of this stuff, I just clicked to listen to you talk. Your voice and accent together is very pleasing to listen to. All of that aside, I always love your videos! Thanks for all of your tips!
I do love your accent. I would only add that I would encourage everyone to use a stamp positioner tool of some sort. It can make all the difference in heat embossing. You can stamp several times in the same position and make sure you cover all the stamp area. Also, just to help with the dimpling effect we often get with heat embossing, you can place your card stock back in the positioner and do it again for better embossing image. Thanks for all your hard work teaching us. May God bless your company, too.
I've definitely under heated in my early days and got frustrated. What I'd like to see, Lou, is how to heat emboss with chunkier glittery embossing powders. I bought a couple and can never seem to get a decent result 😞 It's really frustrating because they're lovely colours and the sparkle is lovely
The problem is the glitter. Best way is to stamp with an ink that is similar colour to the glitter . The glitter may have become unevenly distributed in the jar. If you haven't mixed it before use each time, you will likely end up with too high a ratio of glitter to powder. You can add more embossing powder to the jar if this has happened. I prefer embossing twice, adding microfine glitter and/ or mica powder to the final embossing, or just to the finished embossed image.
Oh I forgot to say you can also ink with a sticky embossing ink to get better results with glitter embossing powder. I use Perfect Medium by Ranger, intended for use with mica/pearlescent pigment powders. Some companies make sticky embossing ink for use with gilding flakes too.
I always mess up heat embossing, so I've kind of given up, but after watching these tips and tricks I'm going to give it another go. Thanks Lou for the great tutorial
Brilliant tutorial Lou I was like that when I first started heat embossing threw so much away thinking I'd over heating it or under heating it but now I know how to do it I feel these tutorials are very worthwhile to watch thanks Lou 🎉🎉❤❤ xx
@CraftStash • Lou: Have you done or will you do a comparison of embossing powders on different types of stamps from fine powder to thick and detailed to solid stamps? Thanks.
hi lou! any tips on cleaning stamps after using versamark? I usually just rinse with warm water and fairy but sometimes it's still a bit tacky, what would be the absolute no-no's for different types of materials, I'm sure staz-on stampcleaner would take it right off, but I feel it might ruin clearstamps..? I just don't want my stamps to melt! (I tried handsanitiser on a clearstamp that I can live without, and it worked great, but I don't think it's recomended. the stamp survived... so far😂😂) stamp cleaning in general feels very trial & error
I have always heard to use Versamark to condition new stamps for better stamping. Hence, I just stamp off and keep it on the stamp. Never lost a stamp yet.
Any tips for removing the antistatic powder after embossing? Microfiber cloths and dusting cloths can't remove it, I'm just left with a haze on my cardstock.
Thankyou for this demo as I definitely needed it. One question though, my paper often bends/warps when I emboss. Is it me or am I using the wrong paper? Thankyou
Thank you for an excellent tutorial on embossing powder. The tips are valuable and I will certainly keep the in mind, especially to help me from overheating the paper and powder.
When I heat emboss directly onto the card base it often warps. I’ve tried weighting the finished card down overnight but after a while it returns to the warped state. I’ve tried heating both sides, making sure I haven’t overdone it and all sorts. Now I only emboss onto mats which I can glue down well. Thanks for all your helpful videos, every one of them has taught me something new or reminded me how to do something better.
I am having trouble embossing thick slick card stock. It’s the same card stock as business cards. I chose it because it’s slick but, my embossing powder did not stick. Any suggestions of what you recommend? Should I just choose something thinner?
I've found using a fine embossing powder works best for me for detailed stamps etc and that's all I buy now as I can use it on most projects. I also love UTEE. 🙂 I have a big tub of clear fine powder and make coloured powders from there 😊
@@craftylea79 I meant Super Fine embossing powder sorry. My big tub of clear super fine powder is WOW, my smaller tubs are Ranger super fine embossing powder. They've always worked well for me. The only colours I buy is Black, white, silver, gold & copper all my other colours are made with the clear powder and my Mica powders. I would strongly recommend you get one of the anti static embossing pouches they're a life saver and I always make sure my heat gun is nice and hot before bringing it to the paper especially if I'm working with UTEE. Just a tip, it can take a little bit of playing, experimenting, trail and error in the beginning so don't be hard on yourself if you don't get top results immediately, just put some time aside to practice and play with the powders and embossing different little things to get the feel of things etc. I also find my Stamp Press is a life saver to make sure I get good stamping results all round. 🙂🌻

Try used dryer sheets to brush the haze off.

Textured paper can be ‘flattened’ by running it through a die cutting machine without a die.
I've heard that embossing powder can go bad, and since all of mine are over 10 or 15 years old, I'm still waiting....?
