- Here's my full flight over to Randolph Airforce base. Pops and I always have a lot of fun in the airplane and this trip is no exception. Leave me a comment and let me know your favorite part.

That was awesome! I have worked at Randolph Air Force Base for over 20 years and you are correct I've only seen a handful of civilian aircraft that have ever landed there so you are one of just a few! The T-38s that were holding short are the aircraft I work on. Wish I would have known you were coming in I could have made arrangements for a meet and greet! Keep up the good work !
Flew a 182 to palmdale to see Columbia shuttle open house in the late 80s. Only GA aircraft on station. Transient Alert guided us ro parking with astronauts T38s. We called the tower 50 miles out with special permit. No problems with flight, clearances and departure.
I’m retired Air Force, there was a time (before all the budget cuts) when almost every Air Force Base with a flying operation had an aero club. It made sense because you always had a ready source of flight instructors. Even some of the ones in Europe where I took my first flying lesson at RAF Lakenheath in the mid 80s. My instructor was an F-111 radar officer that participated in the Libyan bombing.

Have landed many times at an Air Force Installation. But then again, I was in the Air Force so i did have that going for me.

I remember, when I was an ATC operator, that, although the VHF frequencies are not listed, they ARE available. I worked in GCA and, when I flew into a base, I was able to communicate on VHF. The reason YOU were not hearing their trafic is because they simply don't use VHF that often. I was stationed at Hondo(a training base for initial jet training)
I got my private at Clark AB, commercial while flying out of Davis Mothon AFB.
Went through T-37 instructor school at Randolph in 1972 January and February managed to pass and instructed till I got out at Williams AFB IN 1975. Glad I didn’t have to go to Vietnam. I enjoy your videos nice job.
I flew into Wright Patterson air force base a few years ago in a Cessna 172 during a civilian fly in and spent some time at the Wright Patterson air force museum. I had to submit a request and was selected to my surprise.

Yes, I have landed at an AFB…Stewart AFB in New Windsor, NY. It’s now an international airport! Safe flying 👍🏻😘
Flew into Richards Gebauer AFB both as a student ( and broke up when my instructor answered tower when asked if gear was down and locked and he answered “down and welded” and later as a SEL IFR pilot when I flew in before a Thunderbird air show.
I was born on Richards Gebauer AFB. Then spent 20 years active duty.

Flew out of Loring Air Force Base and back when I was stationed there in a Civil Air Patrol Cessna. You realize how long those runways are landing in a small plane like that.

Got my Private at Whiteman AFB, Commercial and Instrument at Hickam AFB, Both Aero clubs. Worked on Instructor at Wright-Patterson AFB Aero Club. Most hours at Air Force Bases, wonderful Long - Long & wide runways.

Yep, we flew to Ellsworth AFB back in the 1980's and got to tour a B1B when the cold war was still going! BTW, we were in a Cherokee too!

I just discovered your UA-cam channel and I love it. Watching you fly with your dad a co-pilot reminds me so much of flying with my dad back when I was a kid and teenager (I am 64 now ;-). We flew the exact same plane Piper Cherokee 180 on trips around Denmark and Sweden. I was supposed to get my own license but then my dad sadly passed away suddenly and I never managed to later. I will keep following your flights. Thanks a lot.

In the mid 90s, Colonel Drinkwater was the Commander of USAF Plant 42 in Palmdale, CA. He loved GA so much he allowed tie-down on C Ramp with 24 hour access to a break room and rest rooms in Bldg. 531. No landing fees!
On May 5th 1964, I was at Plant 42 for the roll out of the B70 Valkyrie. My dad was a tech rep for NAA. KE5D

Also stationed a RAF Lakenheath and in the AeroClub. Received Officer of the Quarter and part of the recognition was an orientation flight in an F-111. Being a medical officer and they had control of me, the pilots goal was that I would not keep the contents of stomach. I wasn't going to tell them that I had flight training. Was cleared by the Flight Surgeon...the Libya happened and all orientation flights were cancelled. Later as out doing touch and goes, let the tower know I saw people scaling the perimeter fence.

Many moons ago, I had a Civil Air Patrol aircraft fly me some parts to a deployed training location. landed on a dirt road, took off from a major AFB. It was a civilian cessna.

I made an emergency landing when I was a student pilot ( 1970 ) at Rantoul AFB in Illinois ( now closed). I had some moisture and the engine was running rough turned the carb heat on and it got worse naturally so I wrongfully shut it off. I was flying overtop under a cloud layer so I called and asked to land. All went well and an Air Force major signed my logbook for a cross-country credit.
Have flown to current Air Force Bases across the country and the world. I'm a retired KC-135A and KC-10A(both air refuelers) Flying Crew Chief(mechanic). You've posted another great vid!!!

RandolphAFB was my duty base 73-74. We had the T38’s & 37’s there at that time. Nice flight. Good to see the place again.
Yep, done it quite a few times in Civil Air Patrol aircraft. The key thing to remember when flying into a fighter base are the arresting barriers. Many of these fields have arresting cables at either end for emergency use. Tower can usually tell you if the barriers are up. Even if they are, the locations are usually marked and you can just land beyond them.
My local airport also houses the air national guard so civilian an military aircraft sharing the same runways is a common sight here.

Hey neighbor! I live right down the road from you in League City! I have flown into our local combination public/military base Ellington Field Airport, which has multiple operations (National Guard, NASA, Coast Gurard, Commercial, Public) No as bad as a 100 percent military base but is slightly more complicated-challenging! Happy flight and be safe!

There are USAF bases that have Aero Clubs. These clubs are part of the MWR organization and they provide aircraft for rental and flight instruction. Most of the pilot instructors are civilians, so they fly into bases often.
Yep, that's how I learned to fly. My instructor was a B-52 pilot.
Yeah, I was a member of the Patrick Air Force Base Aero Club in Florida for almost 30 years, had my share of landings at Air Force Bases, an army post or two and even Naval Air Station’s. I remember correctly Randolph had one of the largest flying clubs
@@johnm2213 I remember also that some of the USAF Aero Clubs had gotten some aircraft from the DEA. They were capture\d aircraft from the drug mule flights out of Central and South America. Sheppard AFB had a Cessna 402 that still had aux fuel tanks in the passenger bay. They were waiting for a crew to come remove the tanks so it could be used by the Aero Club.

Did most of my training at an air guard airport with F16's.and commercial traffic. I laughed everytime the tower reported to me, beware traffic @ 12 O'clock (an F16) 10 miles out, and in the same breath, disregard no longer a factor. 😅
My hubby is currently at Randolph!!! He's learning to fly the t6. Your videos help me understand his shop lingo!! We don't live at Randolph while he's training so when we see him he makes me study with him lol!! Thankfully I've learned alot from you!

As a Flight Medic, I flew to Andrews to pick up a patient. No FBO, glad the C-17 had a latrine module in it.
I learned real quick a new item on the checklist. Never drink a coke while doing a pre-flight walkaround. Found out the hard way that there are no latrines in Cessnas. SMOOTHEST LANDING EVER!
It was my habit to visit the bathroom on every stop. One of our pilots always quoted "Start each flight with a full fuel tank and empty bladder, not the. other way around."
1st video and i liked and subscribed!!! Love aviation but not a pilot. Was an Army brat in the 60's and 70's so i spent almost 5 years at Ft. Hood /Killeen. Eglin AFB in Florida had an aero club in the early 80s (don't know if they still have it). I was stationed there and I started my training and got my private license there.

Haven't flown into one, but did sit in the copilot seat while they taxied a B-29 at SAC Headquarters in Bellevue Nebraska, when I was 3 years old!

Got my PPL at the Edwards aero club. Our runway was @ 2miles south of the tower . We flew from historic south base runway 06 and 24. If you flew a low wing plane they always called you a Cherokee even if you were in a archer or TB-10. Fun times loved my 30 year career working there at south base.
fun flight. I learned to fly in a cherokee, fun little planes and much more fun to learn on than the cessnas imho.

I've landed at both WRI (once) and DOV (more times than I can remember) in GA aircraft. What I have learned is you get less questions if you file IFR and place your PPR in the comment section, if you do that they won't ask any questions other than "where are you parking?". If you go VFR or don't list your PPR on the IFR flight plan they will question you about it. I have also found that on my first call I'll simply add "...and I have a PPR, advise if you need the number"

Yes March Field in Riverside, Ca, learn to fly there in the Aero Club, back in 82-84. 😵💫😵💫 I’ve also held up a couple of C-135’s before too 😅😅

I enjoyed your flight to RND. A first for a landing for y'all on a military airfield. Certainly glad you have flight following so they can relate where close planes are located. I've flown, as a pilot into the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi but the plane came from an Aero club located on base there. So, I guess we had to fly out from NGP to make it back to NGP. Anyway I was flying a T--34 that belongs to the aero club and I was not a "Navy Pilot." At the time, 1965, I was stationed at the base as a tuba player for Navy Unit Band #85. We also flew the clubs Cessna 172 while there too.
I flew into Barnes Air National Guard Base in Massachusetts. We weren’t expecting to fly there but the FBO at our departure airport wasn’t open, even though they said they would be. So we couldn’t refuel.
The runway was huge, 9000x150 ft. ATC was so helpful, especially when we were taxing

Back in the 80's I worked for North American Aviation Division of Rockwell International on the B-1B program. Occasionally I would have to catch a ride in the company aircraft (Twin Otters) from USAF Plant 42 in Palmdale, CA. to LAX. Rockwell's corporate headquarters at that time were located in El Segundo just south of the airport. Sometimes it got a little crazy catching the turbulence from the thermals over the San Gabriel mountains north of L.A. Fun times!
