I’ve become a solitary Yoga practitioner at home also. For many reasons, but one of them is financial. To go to a yoga class every day can be a very expensive prospect. The hardest thing for me to overcome was distractions at home. Checking the phone, checking the refrigerator, checking the laundry, etc. you have to be very determined to just stay in that one spot your practice and not be distracted by anything. Maybe once a week I go to class with my favorite teacher. Sometimes it’s nice to be in a class but as your practice deepens, you learn to love being alone.
I practice regularly at home and attend one Led Primary Class a week with a lineage teacher who learnt from Shirat. It's an hour each way to the class so it's impractical to attend more than one class. I am lucky to have a seperate building from house which is my shala/office. I try and remember that when I practice alone that someone else in the world at that time is also practicing so I am not alone. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
Dogs allways rescpect. Sometimes they came to have a hug before, when i unroll the mat, but when i start, you can see how satisfied they are. I sometimes think because they know how good it is for me to practice.
I choose you as my guide on my yoga journey. Where can i get a picture of you to put up in my yoga realm? Is it true that i should not practice Ashtanga during menstuation?
@IrisYogaDiary I've been a practitioner for just over a decade. What i was taught is it is inversions that should not be done during menstruation. Even downward dog is considered an inversion, albeit a safer one. I have done inversions during my period because I didn't give credence to the warning, and I found my flow actually stopped mid cycle for a few days and then started back up again really throwing my cycle off. It is good for the body to take rest for "Lady Holiday", especially during the first half of your cycle. In the US, we thrown in a tampon and try to bear it, but it I've found my body to be happier when I listen to it and it's natural cycles.
I live remotely, the finances are an issue. But also... yoga in the US isn't very inclusinve: white, Christian, SAHMs... we need not apply. I know I'm not welcome in the community. Fortunately, I like solitude.

My cat just appears to touch my nose during headstand every morning. I tell myself this is what it is☺️☺️
I feel so blessed whenever the household cat joins me in yoga.
Thanks for everything, your videos are always so frank and inspirational. God bless!
