i am a tourist from south east asia and i was so fortunate to be able to watch this musical with this original ensemble in 1998. brings so much beautiful memories of new york.
That vibrato you speak of can be heard by French ladies to the day. It took me a bit to get used to it, and now I think it's perfect. I'd love to have seen Douglas Sills as well. Just remarkable. I play their cd almost daily without tiring of it.
the man with Sutton is one of Broadway's finest, Tim Shew! Best known for playing Valjean in Les Miserables and was most recently in Bye Bye Birdie. He's amazing. I had the pleasure of doing Evita with him.
@andrear, Gilles Chiasson has been working a little behind the scenes in the television and movie industry in California. He works with Moresco Productions. I've neither seen nor heard of any of the things he's worked with, but I know he was around and kicking last summer.
can some people get over the whole sutton foster thing for a minute and just look at christine andreas? i mean, come on. the woman has the most amazing natural vibrato i've ever heard. and she's stuck this delectable french accent into the role that her replacements can't pull off. sutton's great, but she's ensemble here for a reason...there's someone else in the spotlight.
MARGUERITE: There is a child inside my heart tonight. No one can see that child but you. If I hold on to you too tight, you understand. You hold me, too. Oh, wow. I didn't know that Rosie had had both parts of the cast on to perform. This was great! It's so good to see the original, unchanged version of the song in its proper place. So, did Rosie ever have Terrence Mann or Rex Smith on to do any of Chauvelin's songs?
That was the inferior (in my opinion) revised version. The original version had this idea: all families, siblings, husband and wife, etc. I think this was more effective than a typical love ballad between Percy and Marguerite.
@Mervielle How could you say that about Sutton Foster's singing? She has demonstrated her incredible technique, range, and versatility in her many phenomenal performances as a leading lady on the Broadway stage. In no world can Sutton Foster's voice be considered "average." I've had the pleasure of seeing her live in 3 different Broadway shows and she is really magnificent. She's completely deserving of her recognition. Her voice is completely her own and I love it.
Is there a video of the full show of The Scarlet Pimpernel available anywhere? It's my favourite show, but I've never seen the whole thing, and would LOVE to be able to!
This was obviously professionally filmed, so did they put out a video of it? I'd love to see the whole thing! Can't find a blasted thing about it on the internet though, other than snippets on youtube. :/
Christine is gorgeous and all, but her voice drives me mad... way too much vibrato. Linda Eder is does "Only Love" and "Storybook" so brilliantly, but the pop version of this song is awful. Would love to hear her do this version with someone... maybe even change it up and throw another alto in there (maybe Sutton)!
Rosie did so much to help shows to get attention. Kudos to her for what she had done.
I'll never forget seeing this on broadway with the original cast. It was magical and beautiful. A perfect cast of singers and actors.

I really wish my uncle was still on broadway Gilles Chiasson
I loved his performance! Great voice!
This song makes me cry because I think of my first dog. All the songs are so good, definitely in my top 5.
AHHHHHH Sutton Foster! So awesome!
I miss this musical. I loved it, saw it several times when I was in high school.
I love this song, it makes me cry. But I love Christine Andreas so much. She really makes me feel for Marguerite.
Thanks Rose for showcasing all these great Broadway shows!!
Great singing. Great moment in French history during French Revolution
Gilles Chiasson is so great! I wish I can see this musical again .
Ohh! I had no idea Sutton was ever in this! That makes me happy!😁

I fucking love Christine's vibrato, UGH.
I love this song, it's so sweet!
he has an amazing voice

I got chills!
I so totally agreee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gilles Chiasson is so great!
That kid to the left of Rosie ain’t bad. She might be a star someday.
I'd kill to play Marguerite, I'm so glad iTunes has Only Love on the cd!

I was in this show (I was a bounder) and this song was taken out of the show and replaced with I will forget you

This is beautiful but I always thought it was Percy singing with Maurgirite

3:20 Sutton Foster!!
You can hear her in the ensemble parts. So weird that five years after this, she appeared on Rosie to sing Gimme Gimme.
Sutton! ❤️🥲

Surprised that they haven't made a movie yet, wouldn't that be awesome?
is there anywhere you can watch this online, the musical i mean
What is Gilles up to?? What a trip to see Sutton in that chorus!
This song is fantastic :D They are both very talented, it's strange, I almost feel like their voices don't quite go together, though.
This was obviously professionally filmed, so did they put out a video of it? I'd love to see the whole thing! Can't find a blasted thing about it on the internet though, other than snippets on youtube. :/
Where does this fit into the cast recording. Just so I can listen in order.
@twinteatoo That's all well good, but she didn't get the lead female role did she? No, Christine got it and Sutton Foster is just in the chorus.
it's weird to see her in the ensemble
because you know what you're talking about, shes clearly great if she was chosen to be on broadway and is currently on Broadway, so shut it;p
Christine is gorgeous and all, but her voice drives me mad... way too much vibrato. Linda Eder is does "Only Love" and "Storybook" so brilliantly, but the pop version of this song is awful. I don't think she ever had Rex or Terrence on the show.
in a world where broadway is god, barbra streisand is jesus and julie andrews is the holy spirit, sutton foster is like mother theresa
2:22 = what would happen if the Hoff got chubby
They weren't siblings >.
I agree. Not a fan of her campy, summer-stock voice.
The style of the song doesn't seem to fit the classic period of the show....
