THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU! This was the first b-way show I ever saw and it's my FAVORITE and I can never find vids. of it. (I saw Terrance Mann as Chauvelin and the original Marguerite) but still, you got Douglas Sills! So awesome! Thank you!
Sills makes himself giggle an awful lot. I guess if Chauvelin can't laugh, _someone_ has to. Heh! At least it's in-character. Rex is a great singer. :3
This clip always makes me laugh. It's really been an inspiration to me and my friends also. We are trying to put on a play, and it's really shown us what potential it might have. We all wish that we could have seen the whole play.
I absolutely loved this! Thank you very much for uploading this. I loved the Pirates of Penzance (and I suppose after acting with Kevin Kline it helped him keep a straight face the rest of the time) so when I heard that he also sang this I had to search for it. :)
Gosh, I have no idea. I know I'd find it quite difficult. I read in an interview with Douglas that he had certain points in the script where he could ad lib a bit. Which would definitely make it all the more impossible to keep a straight face, I think.
Your soul is eternal and worth so much more than anything in this life. Jesus paid for it with His blood, for you to go to heaven, not hell, if you just repent of your sins and turn toHim as Lord and Saviour. I understand it is just an expression, but your soul is real!
@dmt979 They both have French accents, just different. If you watch movies with real french people in them, you'll see a lot of them have a subtler accent such as Chauvelin's here.
That video ist fantastic XD Chauchau *rofl* I like that scene, when he speak Chauvelins name. Unfortunately tht scene is not in the German show... I like it. XD
"The prince's ball? Well, I'm simply thrilled. We too shall be there! Yes, the wife and I. You'll be there, and she'll be there, and I'll be-we'll all just be there!"
I so wish I had seen this. I have one small criticism - Marguerite's clothing styles are 1780's with exaggeratedly wide skirts. By the early 90's, this had been modified to a more Grecian columnar gown, not entirely, but full skirts were much less full. See portraits in the Met Museum and the Frick.
The Scarlet Pimpernel Broadway Encore cd has Rex Smith's versions of the big Chauvelin numbers, absolutely my favorites. Can probably still get it on AmazonorEbay
Douglas Sills timing, physicality, and charisma make hi. The perfect Percy Blakeney.
THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU! This was the first b-way show I ever saw and it's my FAVORITE and I can never find vids. of it. (I saw Terrance Mann as Chauvelin and the original Marguerite) but still, you got Douglas Sills! So awesome! Thank you!
I saw Terrence Mann too he was awesome
Wow, love Rex Smith's voice. He has a large range and is very versatile. Wonderful!
Douglas Sills is amazing! How did Rex Smith not laugh
If I ever get a little dog, I'm going to name it Cho one sho sho vel.
Percy has so much fun being a troll in this scene
Love his trolling in this scene, but he is the king of trolling throughout the entire show. It's priceless!
LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! Hysterical!!! I don't know how chauvelin keeps from laughing. lol. ;-)
Sills makes himself giggle an awful lot. I guess if Chauvelin can't laugh, _someone_ has to. Heh! At least it's in-character.
Rex is a great singer. :3
I envy this audience. They SO got their money's worth...
Ugh I wish there was a way to watch the whole show 😭😭😭😭 I can’t find a good English version anywhere.
this is the great lament of the Broadway world of us
This clip always makes me laugh. It's really been an inspiration to me and my friends also. We are trying to put on a play, and it's really shown us what potential it might have. We all wish that we could have seen the whole play.
"Chuvelin! THAT'S A STUNNING NAME!" lmao.
Where has this show been all my life??!!
I absolutely loved this! Thank you very much for uploading this. I loved the Pirates of Penzance (and I suppose after acting with Kevin Kline it helped him keep a straight face the rest of the time) so when I heard that he also sang this I had to search for it. :)

"Chauvelin, only one Chau v e l i n." "Oh! So it's Chua Chau v e l i n" "WHAT?!" lmfao
I somly love what Rex Smith did with this song. I like this version more than the recording I think.
Gosh, I have no idea. I know I'd find it quite difficult.

Oh Douglas. Oh Rex.
God damn that man can sing!
I would literally sell my soul to see the full show- why isnt it on UA-cam???
Your soul is eternal and worth so much more than anything in this life. Jesus paid for it with His blood, for you to go to heaven, not hell, if you just repent of your sins and turn toHim as Lord and Saviour. I understand it is just an expression, but your soul is real!
Ooh, thanks. Now I got it.
"I could book passage for you with me on the boat back to France."
Thanks!
I WANT TO SEE THIS SHOW SO BAD
Shovlin!!! LOL God I miss this show
@dmt979 They both have French accents, just different. If you watch movies with real french people in them, you'll see a lot of them have a subtler accent such as Chauvelin's here.
thank-you so much for posting this!!! I have a feeling if I ever see it live, though, this will have ruined it because it won't be Mr. Sills. *sigh*
Rex is the best! So good
And call it Sho-sho for short. XD
Love it
Thank you so much for uploading! Could you possibly post the full show?
I don't know the exact words but it's something like
"I could give passage to you to get on the boat back to france"
THANKYOU♥LOVE♥REX♥♡♥

"I could book passage for you and (me) to go back to France." Not sure what he says when I wrote (me)
Someone please translate 4:15-4:24 What does Percy say???
"The prince's ball? Well, I'm simply thrilled. We too shall be there! Yes, the wife and I. You'll be there, and she'll be there, and I'll be-we'll all just be there!"
What does Chauvelin say at 5:26?
I could book passage for you to go back to France
Chauvelin is middle-aged, and has a kid. (Sir Percy Hits Back) -_- love the musical though. XD never ceases to make me laugh.
Where can you see this version in its entirety? Rex's voice has so much more power and passion than Terrance's!!
Oh my, she did seem rather ... round.
I so wish I had seen this. I have one small criticism - Marguerite's clothing styles are 1780's with exaggeratedly wide skirts. Who can't? Lol!
I feel like the conductor rushed "Where's the Girl," a bit. Much prefer the tempo on the Broadway cast recording.
I need subs despite being fluent I'm missing half the jokes T-T
*Speaking. oops lol
Yeah...he is better than Terrence Mann ...like...a lot. I wish I had a copy of this version.
The Scarlet Pimpernel Broadway Encore cd has Rex Smith's versions of the big Chauvelin numbers, absolutely my favorites. Can probably still get it on AmazonorEbay
@@RealWolfmanDan The one I have is definitely Terrance Mann's. I wonder if I have a defunct recording...
I sing this song better than him.. or at least as good as him :)
