Pascal is a seriously a crazy good drummer. Not only is this specific video very hard for a drummer to cover, but combined with all the other covers that Pascal has nailed, I think it's safe to say this guy is a friggin beast!
Yeah they go into tons of detail about the exact equipment but if you hear the difference in the 2 snare sounds they made 90% of that is in processing and not in just picking a different snare.
Jack Stratton says he doesn’t usually spend that much time on the Vulf mixes. And he hits everything pretty hard with the Vulf Compressor. From there it’s not really that hard to get close
It's obvious how much you all enjoyed making this and how much you enjoy Vulf. Thank you. Excellent work as always, this has been my new favorite channel over the last year.
Jack did a Reddit AMA where he talked about how he mid’Ed his drums and what his thoughts were on drum sounds for vulfpeck in general and his response was “keep the drums dry and the mics close” which is exactly what y’all did! Hell yea!! Maybe you guys could do a video about how you could use their signature plugin the Vulf Compressor to achieve the sounds in tandem with the right drum sound and mic placement!
Your left hand looks just like Nate Smiths during the fearless fliers section, I saw another video on UA-cam where he talked specifically about his left hand and how he uses it for snare. Great video!
Because I live in a large city and practise a lot at home, I’m very used to the sound of muffled drums. I can see myself using this sound more and more, by accident and familiarity rather than by explicitly picking it. Nice video, nice drumming!
To be honest, I was like: Here we go, there is no way they can pull of an authentic 'Nate', in playing or sound. I think it came together really well. Kick Ass.
Not a drummer, but here for Vulfpeck. I'm impressed by the simplicity. There are three pieces: bass drum, snare, and cymbal or high hat. It makes me think drum lessons are possible. Thanks for the video.
I'd love to see and hear a recreation of the drum sounds on Nirvana's _In Utero_ album. The bombastic, Bonham-esque drumming of a young, prime Dave Grohl, the intimate, under the microscope, nowhere to hide, "put a mic on everything" sound/recording style and the huge drums (16"x24" kick, 14"x15" rack tom, 16"x18" floor tom, 8"x14" maple snare). I think it'd be very fun and a great challenge.
One word. YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Favorite video EVER! I’ve been waiting for someone to do exactly this type of video. I really appreciate you doing it, your thoroughness when dissecting any particular drum set is much appreciated.
Vulfpeck's videos look like my percussion studio's rented house back in college, right down to having instruments everywhere, along with beards and haze.
Thank you for this very inspiring content. I love the vintage sound of Vulfpeck and also the grooves of Cory Wongs solo project. I try to use this "less is more" technic when ever I play drums or also percussion. Most of the songs don't need this overplayed styles in this genre.
i would definitely say the sound has influenced mine, ever since first finding out about vulfpeck, i've kept a handkerchief for muffling in my cymbal bag.
Great vid! I think the less-is-more approach is way more inspiring to watch and to recreat! Great achievement on getting the sound and groove👍🏻 It's all you need...kick, snare, hats!

Great drumming as always Pascal & very unique drum sounds. I hope that multilayered samples of snares & kicks from these drum covers will be available soon from Art of Drumming.
Step 1) go to your grandma's house Step 2) go to the attic Step 3) take the suitcase and old tiffany lamp from the attic Step 4) HUG AND KISS YOUR GRANDMA AND THANK HER FOR EVERYTHING Step 5) watch 70s sitcoms for musical inspiration Step 6) go to your bedroom, close mic suitcase and lamp and record it with heavy compression. Step 7) Repeat step 4
ok... ok... a pillow... a blanket... and that's it!... c'mon... TONS of compression... EQing... maybe transient designers and cut-out filters... and then... maybe some ultra short delay... room verbs too!
@@ArtOfDrumming my clue is this video in the beginning: ua-cam.com/video/AWBUnr0F3Zo/v-deo.html Camera sound and mixed sound are waay too different. I know they should be, but it feels like magic turning that sound into another. I have some background in mixing but still it seems to be too hard to achieve that sound without any samples. I might be wrong, and it would be great to see a mixing breakdown for that sound.
very very cool. I really want to recreate this sound. when i'd practice with my band in a practice space, do you think I need to mic up the kit you use for the ace of aces setup? the yamaha custom hip won't have a lot of volume I fear without mics?
This is taken from the original Vulfpeck video and they actually explained that in the comment section of the original video stating that back in the day fender bass was an overall term for electric bass. Of course this is a music man 👍🏻 Aaand for a little more insight: music man was founded by Leo Fender who also built the music man basses the first couple of years 👍🏻
you didn't explain the EQ setting on the mic for ace of aces. It sounds like its going through an old 8 bit sampler or something. Did you bandpass filter it?
NICE
lol
oh hi there
Pascal is a seriously a crazy good drummer. Not only is this specific video very hard for a drummer to cover, but combined with all the other covers that Pascal has nailed, I think it's safe to say this guy is a friggin beast!
🤟💯
100% Agreed - that fearless flyers cover was SPOT ON Pascal !!!!
I was thinking about the same !!!
Any drummer brave enough to take on a Nate Smith groove deserves a tip of the hat. Well played!
I'd love to get a mixing breakdown too. Such a big part of that sound

Actually, I didn‘t even use their compressor for mixing the drums :)
@@pascal_thielen Haha i could tell! Which is why i asked if you could, The Vulf comp is such a unique sound.
@@pascal_thielen whoa, that's actually crazy getting this sound without their compressor. Kudos!

I noticed the same, crazy stuff!!
OMG you guys just recreated my favorite band’s drum sound! Thanks, you are amazing!
Great recreation of the Vulfpeck sound and wonderful playing by Pascal!
Thanks 🙏 KaitsuDrums
Very good! Vulf Compressor is a must. Next Louis Cole / Knower / Clown Core please!
Would really love to see your mixing process as well for all of your videos!

It takes a BIG set of… feet… to fill Nate’s shoes on a FF track! Hats off to a job well done. As a huge fan of all things Vulf, it’s appreciated.

Keeping the fiberskyn for the fearless flyers was an unitentional good pick lol. Nate Smith uses Evans Calftones

I've got a dedicated snare drum shirt now lol. Absolutely loving that vulfpeck sound
I always enjoy your videos, but I was giddy when I saw this one pop up. Love the attention to detail and kick ass playing!
Nicely done! Love these guys!

Love it. That blue finish on pearl kit is 👌🏽
Totally agree
THIS IS AWSOME.. YOU GUYS SHOULD DO BONHAM NEXT

Love the sound of that snare in Ace of Aces! Name/link to the particular muffle? Looks super convenient.
It’s a muffin: mistermuff.de/shop/muffin-set/
amazing, thank you!
Amazing work in this video! Cheers!
Thanks Fernando!
I had a band about 5 years ago that played 1612 and backpocket. Good stuff. I'm not sure I was up to the task behind the kit although
So amazing!!!
🙏 thank you!
Just what I need
Dude, sick!! 🔥
Thanks
Pretty gooooood. Love the muffin top sound.
Production is so good guys
Thank you 😊
Der Klang der Snare hat mich wirklich umgehauen. Beide Male!
Nate Smith is a force of nature
Yeah, go Pascal!!!
5:00 the little smile, you know what you did
That shirt is brilliant...just sayin'. Love your approach to the technique, mates
Surprised the Vulf compressor wasn’t spoke about!

Tip of the cap on playing that Nate Smith groove well, a difficult task!
Thanks 🙏
Pascal can groove! Damn!
Fearless Pascal!

Really cool. Haven't gone down that road yet.
Try it out - it’s worth it

Great video though, dead on and Pascal is a great drummer.
Thank Robb!
Silk Sonic drum breakdown/recreation please!

fantastic!!!

Könnt ihr bitte ein Video zum Sound von „Louis Cole“ und seiner Band „Knower“ machen?
have you ever thought about recreating the drumsound of Jojo Mayer ?
Yes 🙌
Great video! But I humbly believe that vulfpeck drum sound uses some samples blending. It's way too consistent for a dry drum sound. Any thoughts?
We do not think so but of course mixing and compression is also a huge sound factor

Shout out Nate Smith !

Volume should not be the problem. But if you want the low end to be present a kick might would help 👍
Hero town is amazing too
100
The sound of Yussef Dayes would be interesting
Not to be pedantic but around 1:32 when it says Dart is playing a fender bass he has a music man stingray in his hands.

Canon eos r5

Sounds great! Pretty please could you do Michael Giles' drum sound from In the Court of the Crimson King?
Btw, the vulfpeck like music in the background was made by me 🥂
Thanks a lot for that! 😄 love it!
Great video! But wait... you don't have an acrolite? What's wrong with you???
4:26 change video setting to 240p for proper Vulfpeck simulation
Very good advice! 😄
please do dimmu borgir - hybrid stigmata drum tone
4:58 off the beat faster kick hit 😅
👏
I love all you do, but can you do Roger Taylor sound of Queen? Thanks
💯 👍🏻
awesome, anyone know which kick pedal is used in this video? never seen it before!
It's a perfect balance pedal by Sonor with a Vic Kick beater by Vic Firth. 👍
