I'm glad that SLS has changed the format over the years. You can see here that it was all about being consistent and not taking risks back in the day. This made it extremely boring to watch because playing it safe and landing as many tricks as possible made you win the contest. Nowadays winning is more about doing really impressive tricks and surprising the crowd.
True but at the same time if you're a skater you know all those tricks are still so hard even so, a normal human couldn't begin to land those tricks with that consistency
@@PlaySA very well said people who don’t skate don’t realize how hard these tricks really are
10 years later I still can’t believe chaz missed a $150K krook!
And also that Malto won with basically just nosegrinds. I'm SO glad they changed the format to what it is right now. Chaz was the true winner of this event.
Axel Lessio yeah bro, sucks man, Chaz deserved to be the winner.
Sad thing is that he probably could have won with just a boardslide or a kickflip
GOd fdamn never again scroll trough the comments before watching
@@haixchu haha sorry for that but I feel you man, SLS used to send out emails announcing who won the contest before I was able to watch it (as I couldn't watch it live because of my timezone), so freaking annoying!
Malto literally just did every variation of a nose grind
The old format was so trash. "Why aren't they trying to do something big!" Because malto gonna be a 50-50 and win the whole thing
Do*
Try to do 60 tricks in a row without bailing poser.
@@lueyville9322 I reckon bro these guys have no idea what they are on about
nyjah with the i&i shirt and prod on plan b. crazy blast from the past
Wish i&I was still around
its amazing how all these young skaters came up at the same time and they are still dominating competitions to this day.
Thanks for the massive load of uploads sls. Gonna be awesome going through these reliving the memories.
For real. I'm stoked about it
Crazy how much skateboarding has progressed in 10 years.
None of their performances in this contest would hold a candle in the finals today.
I think the small park gives this impression. They were really good too back then and some of those guys did tricks we don't really see anymore in contests.
@@francoismartineau2519 that's true 🤙🤙🤙
this whole format + the new run format = an awesome competition.
Exactly!!!!
Chris Cole just having fun on his board. Rob "I don't understand" And that's why you host a TV show Rob.
Haha after 10 years the thing I was remembering more clearly about this event were those comments about Chris Cole. Thankfully a lot has changed since then and SLS has been leaning more towards the vibes of Tampa Pro, everyone's having a blast and it's not like a freaking football match full of stats and comments about the strategy or the points, there's more focus on style, tricks and having fun.
chris cole did skated the way nobody will never sk8. in all honesty, i believe chris skated his way because nobody would sk8 like chris cole. always will be my favorite sk8er, chris cole. @sls thank you
Daniel Rodriguez seriously! Cole is the best!!
yes but he's not the most consistent he knew those tricks would score low after the first time he did it. got to play smart
Paul kersey you need to educate yourself rob dyrdek is the biggest skateboarding pioneer next to Tony hawk that has ever done it. He got the show because of skateboarding. Created basically all of the best DC shoes, created one of the most famous skateboarding video parts of all time, CREATED STREET LEAUGE ALL TOGETHER!
10 years later all noseblunts in contest are 360 flip noseblunts
Nah bro, some of em are 270 noseblunts
😂
i competed in a contest im not even sponsored, i pop shuv lipslide a 6 rail and some guy tre flip nose blunts it lol then i did pop 5050 on it but it was after time i lost lol the guy was am though and im not sponsored
i cant believe how Sheckler never won a SLS!!!!!!
Sean “nose grind” Malto
true😂
awesome to see how far SLS has come in the past 10 years
I like how Cole let the kids take this one when he realized it wasn't his day.
thank you very much sls🇧🇷🇧🇷
Your welcome round 1 6:54 round 2 22:59 round 3 37:39 final round 54:11
Thank you so much
NICE DUDE
Thanks so much for this piece of history
Thank you for the throwbacks!!!! Thank you!
It’s crazy how much sls and the level of skateboarding has progressed since this
How it looks the same to me 😭
It's because our tricks are "open source", when we learn something new we show the world and help others learn it. Just imagine if the rest of the world was like that. We'd have a cure for everything, the medical field would look like magic to us, efficient vehicles that don't blow up, have humans on other planets, flying cars 😅, ect. But no, humans are greedy selfish disgusting beings! I'm ashamed of us and what we have been doing to each other since our creation. At least skateboarding shows us what we could be.
Nice! Keep uploading the 2010's.
This time it was good to watch sls
skate culture was visibly soooooooooooo different to now its amazing
Man skateboarding really did progress this last decade.
please release more videos from old contests! would help me a lot during this quarantine
so thankful putting up the full broadcasts of the ancient sls
Chaz probably hated him for this last trick
most likely to this very day still
I love how unpredictable Greg lutzka was in this competition!
2010 play safe .this day was hard play
It took me a while to get used to nyjah without dreads and it's just as odd now seeing him with them again
nyjah looks way cooler back then
Fran Junglar Factz
Saw a cute girl in the crowd and fell in love, then I realised she must be like 50 by now, my heart breaks... All jokes aside this is a piece of history and I really enjoyed watching it!
This was only 10 years ago bud
@@TheEchelon I know, I watched this live 10 years ago, it was only a joke about how old this stuff is. :)
lovin those reposts. i ve watched them at the time.
Man rob Dyrdek’s commentary made it so much better!!
I’m so glad Chris Cole is a commentator now for SLS. Because he’s much better. (No offense Rob)
i remember street league the movie
Thank God you guys posted this
What a old’s times 👏
Thank you guys for uploading all these !!!
Memories!
I missed these skaters man
Thank you so much! Been looking for these.
Chaz deserved this win 100%, malto did the same trick over and over so dirty
Chaz literally could have just ollied down the set and gotten the score he needed to win he decided to try the trick he was trying to land all day of practice and not landing it he doesn't deserve that win
Daaaaang chaz. You blew that one.
Chaz a LEGEND though ! Soooo underrated
the line section was the coolest thing ever in street league!
it was a unique contest once. now its just as boring as every other contest...
Malto was just smart. All Chaz had to do was a 50-50 on the hubba to win and couldn’t lock it in. Come on….
Pressure broke Ortiz. Dude got robbed.
I’m glad that they changed the rules.. because Malto was skating good but Chaz really killed this contest ❤
Ontario, California, or Ontario, Canada?
California
45:34 Cole is a legend for that one!
Watched the whole thing again after 10 years and I realized how Chaz Ortiz was robbed of the win! Malto got scored way higher for the basics and higher than Chaz for doing the same tricks.
Simpler times back then... Now we see 9 clubs every other run
Só lendas. Não sei se o skate ou a tecnologia evoluiu mais nesses dez anos.
30:58 did this man just say Shane O'Neil missed a switch flip 4 times in a row? This truely was 10 years ago.
I mean, even in 2010 that was completely unheard of for Shane tbh. Him and Torey were by far the most tech skaters and even 2010 Shane and Torey were doing tricks that hold up in todays contests.
I feel like chris Cole trick would be so cool in today's SLS
Rob wants everyone to do their hardest tricks, but this format only rewards consistency and destroys anyone who fails while taking a risk
Thank You !!! For posting these street league 😎
Rob really bitching throughout the whole final bout a fall or a trick that doesn’t put a skater to the top when skateboarding is all about having fun. I like how Chaz Ortiz skated on this one and s/o Nyjah cause that was just the beginning ☝🏽
This was when Street League Skateboarding was good
Imagine the first section in today’s competition and tricks🤯🤯
yea a lot 360 flip or hadflip into the rail
Ortiz was like what, 15? Dude was amazing
I've always loved his style. He was my favorite back in the day.
cris cole el mejor
The judges don't skate.
8:58 - nollie front heel
9:12 - Frontside Flip
9:39 - Kickflip
All the same score.
the kickflip was switch tho thats why and also i think style and steez plays into the score... and to be honest i agree with u tho the scores were wack af idk how malto kept nosegrinding everything and won
Before the modern street contest format was created. The way it's announced makes me feel more like I'm watching a pageant then a skate contest. We've come a long way.
nyjah did kickflip back lip and got 4.9 then prod did just a normal back lip and got 5.1??? Or did I miss something
Damn these profile pictures hahaha love it
So Boring Malto doing same trick over and over again, thanks God they change the way to score when someone repeat the same trick.
not exactly the same he did them in different stances but yeah its boring
Mi-Styk Flow I know but It wasn’t fair because his point were constantly to high for so little changes. Everyone else was going better. Malto just learned how to play safe with the format without pushing like the others. That’s why they changed it. Chaz was better by far but the format hurt his score.
yeah some scoring was not as accurate. bs feeble on that tall rail was like 4 points and some gnarly tricks were just as well a 4. Chaz did nastier tricks altogether in my opinion.
Yup after they changed the format, Malto just couldn't compete to the top 3 or even 5 spots
I wouldnt say boring. its less visually appealing. I thought malto's trick selection/strategy was ok seeing that like 3 people were doing the same tricks as each other and also repeating (flip board, flip back lip, etc). This format was little bland but its what made it original compared to every other contest. SLS now with the run format has just become like every other contest. Every contestant is doing the same tricks and are therefore always having the same winners. The original format was imo more balanced because it gave tech skaters like prod and shane a chance to gain pts in the tech/ledge section while skaters like nyjah thrived in the big section and consistency skaters like ortiz and malto in the line.
27:13 “I think that’s something he can do in his sleep with his eyes closed” 🤣
Malto so boring doing nosegrinds and crooks for the whole comp just to get a 4 or 5 each time and take the money
Only a poser would criticize someone who landed 60 tricks in a row.
damn sean malto is 30!!!! dude still looks 16 years old
Yeah him and Paul Rudd just decided they're going to stop aging lol
HOLY SHIT THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Slow and steady wins the race
Gracias
unbelievable!
Where is Chaz Ortiz now?
From the streets to the league!
I like how it said Ontario CA, I thought it was my province in Canada 😂
building a perfect fully concrete skatepark just for one sesh then crush it down.
my local skatepark: 1 quarterpipe. 1 mannypad like 1 metre high, strange-kinked rail nobody ever will grind, pebbled asphalt u can use just with bikes.
I love skaters. But Rob? That man is making big moves for young talent. Looking back at these videos is just nostalgic. Rob is the man. RIP big black. Love that man too.
Dude, the scores came in before the trick sometimes
They should do another one with this coarse. Just to see the prediction.
watching this back i hate how some of the judging is.. i actually found some of the tricks chris cole did VERY impressive.. like grabs out of the grinds.. and on a rail? also the fingerflip out? that was sick as hell and the judges just call it easy.. like how are tricks like that "not a risk" ..... so weird
HAVNT SEEN 2010 XD i ask to myself, "how many years did i slep?" when i saw Huston's Hair cup
upload the qualifiers
What ever happened to chaz Ortiz?
I was like wtf when this happen in Toronto lol
1:06:55 Sean malto's dad so proud of him
Qué weá Chaz... puros 2dos lugares D:
Some of these judge scores appear incredibly quickly, some less than a second after lol
The old times... when people mad a 4.5 on average.... ... ...
Does anybody know if Rob Dyrdek understands the strategy yet?
just me that prefer that style of tricks..one by one...the best trick...
The worst part of old sls is listening to dyrdeck speak
BRASIL LIKEE!!!!!!
Como olvidar a Paul cringe Rodrigues
man this commentary
Commentating has gotten insanely better. So wack.
Why is a complete sellout trying to tell Chris Cole how to skate? Thought it ten years ago and I'm thinking it now.
i had no idea chaz was like that!!
glendale , arizona
I think Malto was better 10 years ago and Chad too. And Chad had more tricks and style.
Philosophical approach: If someone makes switch tricks ALL the time.. is it still switch? (pointing at P Rod)
