So the +n on the terrain elevation doesn't give % increases, but it increases the tower's base damage and range by n. Towers deal their base damage multiplied by the damage specific multiplier (health, armor, shield) to whatever kind of bar they're attacking. So if you had a tower with 1 base damage and a health multiplier of 5, that tower would deal 5 damage to health on any enemy that doesn't have shield or armor per hit. But if you put that tower on a +3 space, they would now have 4 base damage and would be dealing 20 health damage per hit (again to unarmored and unshielded enemies). Levelling up towers is good because it increases both the tower's multiplier of whatever you choose, as well as their base damage. So if you level up that tower with 1 base damage and 5 health damage's health damage, the tower would start doing 12 damage per hit (2*6) instead of 5.
@@hash4badi Yes, as the elevation bonus will be multiplied and 1 * 5 is worse than 3 * 5 for instance. I think the point is though that upgrades often beat out more towers in terms of raw damage output

i've beaten 1 lane and 2 lanes with just ballista spam and mana banks. i beat single lane again with just ballista recently once the mana banks got changed. i reset the game because i had too many upgrade cards diluting the pool.
I know that this was captured on the livestream, but such a three way junction 3 telas should carry you to atleast 30, each telsa focuses upgrades on one of health armor and shield,
One of the things that's going to help you alot is to take into consideration the length of time a group of mobs will take to get to your choke points: You want to stagger the mobs more so that your single target DPS doesn't get overwhelmed.
Not sure if this was said on stream but upgrades become more useful than buying new towers because: Every level increases the tower’s overall base damage even if you aren’t specializing in that type (upgrading shield damage also increases health and armor damage because base damage goes up). The upgrades are multiplier increases on the base damage against certain types of health. It’s why they become powerful and also why it’s better to have specific units only stacked for certain things. Every level on a unit costs more, so it doesn’t make sense to have a ballista at level 30 with ten points in each of the three (ten times multiplier across the board) when you could have three ballista with high multipliers against the units they are specifically targeting. If you have a dude set to be shield guy, only upgrade his shield damage. He’ll reach way more damage against shields for a fraction of the cost.
I always expand in a single long line. That way the enemies will enter the map staggered, then your towers can deal with them in parts instead of a single large group.

Yeah, can't think of a good reason to target slowest. Better go most hp or fastest, and always mix some "near death" in, at least after the first third of the way. The fewer enemies survive, the fewer will be regenerating. There should be some variation in target selection in order to reduce overkill, and specialization is key. IDK if late anti-shield is necessary either, do shields regenerate? Tesla at first branch encountered would be good, or something that slows for a long time.

Every upgrade increases the base power level of the tower and you multiply that by is Health, Armor or Shield to calculate true damage, should be displayed in parentheses. Base 10 ballista with 15 Heath damage is (150) per shot, upgrading it only twice makes it base 12 and 17 health damage for a total of (204) per shot, by 20 upgrades it’s 30 and 35 for (1050) per shot. - Tiles are 7x7 and the elevation bonus is how many tiles your radius is increased but it also increase your base attack stat by that amount which again scales exponentially with your other towers. - Bosses always spawn on the longest route that wasn’t previously upgraded so on 15, 25, 35 etc, upgrade a shorter route to guarantee Oogie spawns on the longest one available. - The last tower of each type to damage and enemy is the one to earn XP, spamming the same tower in a small area means they compete for XP and grow slower, meanwhile spamming different towers in the same choke point means they are all gaining equal XP. - Exponential scaling is one of the easiest ways to make it to end game, if you have a tile that’s a large corner with a 3x3 area in the middle with a peak of +3 in the center, try using a single Tesla coil and just upgrading all of its stats evenly, it struggles to get off the ground but once it takes off it single handedly can carry you to the final boss

I think you're over-thinking your upgrade game. When you have a lot of money and a lot of towers, you need to upgrade. Then just pick a tower that does work for you and make it better. When it gets too expensive, pick a new tower. It won't be completely min-maxy, but it will translate gold into damage. ETA: Also remember that the value of a new tower goes up if it's placed well, both with regards to covering multiple line, making use of houses, and elevation.
I just realised that Nl and Jordan Peterson are similar. In that i like to listen to both because they say things in such a forward and understandable way. NL did it on a high level when answering the "i cant believe NL hasn't learnt" person
I finally beat single entrance last night by getting lucky with no splits until the lane was super long. Then I built a ton of Tesla Coils and Frost Towers all lined up together with a bunch of Mortars. Never upgrade towers early. I only upgraded after level 30isb probably then upgrade on Tesla Coil concentrated on Health, one on Armor, and one on Shields. The only units to get through the kill zone were spawns from units that didn't get slowed in time. And by then I had all the encampments at the back with mines all over the path as backup.

Video starts, and the egg immediately blunders by ignoring all the spots he could place a ballista to hit 2 houses simultaneously. You know it's gonna be a good video.
(Haven't played the game, so i could be wrong) As for when to buy more or when to upgrade, it has to do with map coverage. If your towers only can hit 50% of the path, a new tower will be more useful. But the towers placed should have the best coverage, so increasing dps of the best real-estate is better than dps of the poor locations.
As a psych grad I am both offended and in agreement at the soft science banter. Every upgrade increases the base power level of the tower and you multiply that by is Health, Armor or Shield to calculate true damage, should be displayed in parentheses.

I never upgraded any tower with gold and made it to wave 45 8)
What he needs is the blue card that will let you draw every turn
Just bought this and the magnifying glass is no joke, they've gotta make a few usability changes 😂
"Biology is the softest science" social sciences have left the chat
and then they re-enter a few minutes later lmkek
I just realised that Nl and Jordan Peterson are similar. In that i like to listen to both because they say things in such a forward and understandable way. NL did it on a high level when answering the "i cant believe NL hasn't learnt" person
I wish the towers had slightly more interesting upgrades than just "deal more damage to X"
Yesss more rogue tower im loving it
Honestly such an amazing game, lovely graphics and music
I finally beat single entrance last night by getting lucky with no splits until the lane was super long. Then I built a ton of Tesla Coils and Frost Towers all lined up together with a bunch of Mortars. Never upgrade towers early. I only upgraded after level 30isb probably then upgrade on Tesla Coil concentrated on Health, one on Armor, and one on Shields. The only units to get through the kill zone were spawns from units that didn't get slowed in time. And by then I had all the encampments at the back with mines all over the path as backup.
Oh and you need about a million Mana Banks for this strat to work.
The snare drum kills me
if i was going to change the ui:
1. choose priority with icons/buttons instead of left & right arrow selectors
2. show tech tree as icons, show full info on click or hover
3. set main ui elements based on screen size
4. visually indicate tower upgrade levels
5. Add option to fast forward time
This is the discord light mode of video game visual design
good maths make soft sciences, soft sciences make bad maths, bad maths make hard sciences, hard sciences make good maths
this game looks so fun even if I literally can't read anything at all, I wish it was a little bit cheaper though
Yeah I did end up buying it but I agree it seems overpriced to me. Would rate it as a 5 dollar game
@@pizza.doctor 5 dollars seems way to low for the amount of hours you play.
I picked this up because of you and spent 2 days trying to get my first win. Got it when I was randomly doing a no ballista run for the hell of it lol
TIL in the southern hemisphere a terlet flushes backwards
This might become my new favourite series!
The ballista placement at the start was just aces lmao
i want to watch tomorrows stream so i can help chat backseat drive this man from proverbially driving into a ditch. i love your vids and usually your big brain strats shine through but for some reason tower defense is your Achilles' heel.
What days does he stream? Can’t remember the last time I caught him live
Video starts, and the egg immediately blunders by ignoring all the spots he could place a ballista to hit 2 houses simultaneously. You know it's gonna be a good video.
I just wanna know if he actually ended up getting Pho for dinner or if he ordered the 32C
Love the episodes so far
gettin better gettin better, good stuff
my 12th grade precalculus class was 3 ppl including myself
NL dumping money into armor dmg the last few seconds of the run as he’s trampled by Health enemies is peak comedy
(Haven't played the game, so i could be wrong)
As for when to buy more or when to upgrade, it has to do with map coverage. If your towers only can hit 50% of the path, a new tower will be more useful. But the towers placed should have the best coverage, so increasing dps of the best real-estate is better than dps of the poor locations.
tesla in the middle of a 270° wrap around square is the strongest position for it
Loving the Rogue Tower games so far!
Many Vietnamese places here have Pho in the name of the restaurant lol, also, 6 people in my Senior year calculus class, same for physics 😂
As a psych grad I am both offended and in agreement at the soft science banter. Although, psychological studies primarily use statistics to determine the results of their study, so if anything Psychology is more math-y than it is science-y. I guess the science part only come along due to the fact that it has a lot of real world application and phenomena observation.
People who don’t regard psychology a real science have never studied it.
@@alkestos Hannibal Lecter expressed that view in the Silence of the Lambs novel - I don't know what that says and I don't know why I remember that either
Absolutely pogged content, you love to see it
Can put the UI scale up if you want bigger text. :)
I love this game, please play it more!
God imagine watching General Bahroo play this game for 69,420 hours and NOT winning your first game.
That’s totally gonna be me btw XD
22:54 overlapping can be good, you just need a mortar or something else and do some good area damage. It depends on which towers you get access to i admit
I'm glad I'm not the only one whose chat rags on them for storing extra gold.
Try mortar/poison sprayer with creeping cough unlocked.
"Balista Flockhart" sent me
I've been hunting the comments for this! I'd given up and posted it myself 🤣
Being able to group towers would be Poggy update
I agree that Psychology is a softer science than the others mentioned, but I am a Senior Psychology lecturer in the UK and can tell you there's plenty of mathematics required in quantitative research - I know because I have to teach it.
So after the burger bun fiasco in vampire survivors and now the pho vs banh mi vs 34c dialogue in rogue tower, I'm learning that NL records while hungry. Grab a snack for gods sake.
