- Walking is powerful exercise with a ton of possible health benefits. A walk every morning can supersize those benefits. In this video, Dave talks about five ways a morning walk every day could change your life.
If you're struggling to make fitness stick, you're invited to try the Walking is Fitness podcast. There's a new ten-minute episode every day that will help you for a fitness habit that lasts. And, to keep it fun, Dave records each episode while he's out walking too.

I love my early mornings, so glad I am an early riser… up by 4:30 am coffee, some time alone to do anything I want to do….out by 6am walking and enjoying the sunrise 🌅
Perfect!!
* cold ,dark, depressing, wet and windy everyday in the UK, getting up at 3:30 in the morning , one needs will of titanium*
Fortunately, I have two titanium hips!
Well, that is different weather than what I have here in SC. Sounds like you actually do have a will made of titanium. Impressive!
And that's summer 2024 😂
Easy to get up in sunny Australia!
Over exaggerating titanium bull shit, get up and get your shit done
My routine is walking 1.3 miles to get coffee…no walk, no coffee. Needless to say I never miss a walk. Thanks for the encouragement!👍
Love this! Thanks for watching
Two things I love about mornings:
Coffee
Walking!!
I’ve added a weighted vest and it’s amazing how much stronger I’m getting!!
I love this!!
Is your weight vest "weight increment adjustable" ...?? (I am curious about this ...)
@@esousa486 no,
They were too expensive.
I’m at 10
Pounds, and my goal is 15 by the end of summer.
That will be my limit, too heavy hurts my shoulders…
@@robinham2796 "Thank you" for sharing your opinion .... It was something I had heard of, but did not know of anyone (personally), that had used a weight vest ....
maybe i will stick with the ankle weight set i have, and add the use of carrying hand weights or 10 lb dumbells, on my walks ....
Early morning is the one time of the day when you can experience real solitude.
"When you have the discipline to get up early, you are rewarded with more free time.” -JOCKO WILLINK
This is so good Charles!!
Nothing better than being an early riser .... (6 years in the Military got me started, decades ago .... and I am "thankful" for it 😎👍👍
For many years I walked in the evenings after work which cleared my brain of the junk of the day. At some point I gave it up. I got lazy and discouraged because I saw no weight loss. As a result I gained more weight and became prediabetic. With the threat of medication, I started walking again and watching carbs. I walk in the morning as soon as I wake. I love the quiet. I love that it is cooler. I love that I see wild life. Of course it took some time but I'm no longer prediabetic and have lost weight. The threat of diabetes was enough for me and I will continue as long as I'm able.
My landlord's 84 year old dad walks every morning! He may not always want to but he made a decision and a choice. So you will be able to walk as long as you want to!
What an inspiring story!! I used your comment in todays Walking is Fitness podcast episode
I am a huge fan of both Atomic Habits and Miracle Morning and I get up at 4:45AM every morning and take the dog and out on the trails walking by 5AM. This is my time. I dont listen to music or podcast. I pray, give myself positive affirmations and think about what I'm grateful for and plan what I need to do that day. I have been doing this routine for two and a half years now and it has been a life changer. I enjoy your videos. You have hit exactly what I believe!
Thanks for sharing.
I love your morning routine. Thanks for your kind comments and for watching
Loved both books!
Thanks for sharing I’d like to get the book miracle mornings, I’ll look it up
That sky behind you! Wow!
It was pretty awesome! Thanks for watching
The scenery is certainly glorious, and isn't it lovely to have that lovely beach almost to yourself!
Walking on the beach is one of my favorite activities, but you gotta get up pretty early to have the beach to yourself. I filmed this at around 6a. It didn’t take long for the beach to fill up after this. Thanks for watching
@@WalkingisFitness I too live at the seashore near Cape Cod, Ma..... Gotta LOVE that sunrise, and salt air ..... (come January - April is a WHOLE DIFFERENT issue....) LOL ... Brrrrr 🤣😂😉😎
I’m going to try this, yes it will be hard in the morning though. I’m retired and get a bit bored around 4pm, so I’ll probably walk then as well. Thankyou for your encouragement
Thanks for watching!
I walked every day for years until my feet hurt and eventually I had neuropathy. Haven’t walked in years. There is no cure. Enjoy your walks everyday. Nothing lasts forever.
I’m so sorry!
I am terribly sorry too. Swimming perhaps?
My morning dose of Dave coupled with a 2 mile walk makes for a great day!
You’re so kind!!
Diagnosed with T2 diabetes at 45. Already did walking. It saved my life until I learned how to deal with all the changes. Still walk at dawn…soon…84.
Inspiring!
I wish you would right a book. Something to keep going back to for reference.
I wish you would spell correctly.
@@dawnarhill309 glad you can read.🙏
You’re so kind! I appreciate the encouragement!!
I'd order it at once, too❣
Morning walks are great! I've been doing about 30 minutes after dinner and another 30 around 900 at night....I am in SoCal or on the Big Island summer months. Thanks for your videos.
Thank you for watching!
Am not a morning person but I do walk everyday and I love it so much ❤
Perfect! Thanks for watching
Truly a powerful form of exercise . I walk 5 to 6 days a week and it's such a healthy thing . Thanks for the channel .
Thanks for watching and for your kind words
I agree , exercise is hard. However , without exception I always feel better afterwards. I also enjoy morning walks , which right now you don't have much of a choice with the extreme heat.
Feeling better after a walk is like a reward for keeping the commitment. Thanks for watching
I agree walking everyday is great. Gets you fitted physically and mentally, however I'm not a morning person, so I've never considered walking first thing. I go out after lunch, which is sometimes hard especially if I've eaten a lot of carbs. Definitely worth the effort though!
Gets you fit, not fitted
Find the time of day that works best for you!!
Start walking 12,000 steps a day since watching your video. 😊 thank you for inspiring
Awesome!!
My semi tubby dog will MOPE if we don’t walk in the morning. That is motivation for me. He don’t walk very long so yesterday we tested out a doggie back pack so I can continue my walk after he is done ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for watching
Hi! I'm nearly 70 and I walk about 5 Km a day with my dog. Almost every day. Let me explain. I have had COPD for 12 years now and I always check the air quality before going out. Walking a long distance in bad air is worse than not exercising. Just a bit of advice for older viewers with chronic respiratory problems.
Wise counsel. Thank you
@@WalkingisFitness 😀
Thank you for your help. It makes a lot of sense. It’s all try gets a great problem solver.😊
Thank you for watching!
I’m a morning person so I know how it is to get up early and enjoy the day. Thank you for sharing this video it was great.😊
Thank you for watching!
Thank you for the beach view today beautiful
Thank you!
I live on a farm. A long way from anywhere and it’s not easy to find a walking trail and in summer where I live, forget it. I’m an Aussie and that entails some venomous snakes, I wished I lived in a town, or a city with paths would be so much more enticing to be out there. I do love walking, it’s just not so easy or safe where I am. Like your videos, will look for your podcast
Yeah, the snakes would be a game changer for me. Thanks for watching and looking for the podcast.
@@WalkingisFitness I can walk in my house I looked at this yesterday whilst it’s not huge if I open certain doors I can walk a smallish circuit could do it over and over to walk. That could work I reckon
6:47 agreed something special about mornings, like the world is renewed again for another day, something about the atmosphere and hearing birds chirping is a bonus.
Mornings are so special! Thank you for watching!
AND, Dave, when you head out very "early" in the morning, there aren't as many other people on the beach !! (Which is better, for those folks with anxiety issues ..... ). 😁😉👌👍👍👍 "Thanks" for posting !!
Thanks for watching!
I just wanted to add I’ve tuned in a few times to your channel and decided to give it a shot! I love mornings so thought it could be a good fit. I already have an active lifestyle but I needed a routine, a habit to kickstart the day. Working out how to organise each day’s ‘to do list’ could feel overwhelming and ironically lead to procrastination. This 10 minute habit helps me feel more ready to tackle the day ahead. Knowing others are doing this too gives a sense of community, thanks!
What a great comment! Thanks for watching
Hi, Dave, this view in your background is gorgeous and probably makes is easier to walk every morning. I never was a morning person, but of course forced to get up early, to school, to my job… now I’m retired and I refuse to get up early, except doctors appointments or a travel. Every now and then I wake up early, maybe I'll give it a try. I remember nice morning walks with our dog long ago. So far I enjoy a walk at noon more. Thank you for sharing, love Monika❣
Hi Monika! The most important thing is finding a walking routine that you enjoy. Clearly, you have!! Thanks for watching
Morning sun exposure also helps improve sleep.
I just learned this the other day!
I can’t argue with that. I love the mornings and my sleep score is typically in the mid to upper 80s
A voice for radio and a face & legs for videos.
You’re so kind! Thanks for watching
Dave, if you don't mind me asking how old are you? Thanks
I don’t mind at all. I just turned 64
Ok. I will start walking. I have hated mornings all my life. I think my mother trained me to stay in my crib asleep while she readied my older siblings for school. Can I reorder my patterns? Yes.
I hope you come to love mornings. I’m responding to your comment on my front porch, in the morning, while enjoying a cup of coffee. I love this!
You remember all of us of the joy of life. Gracias!
Thank you!!
I walk every morning at 6am. I rally look forward to it
I love your routine!
Hello Walkers,
Enjoying this so much. Does anyone know when it is safe to do a 10 min walk when you have and are trying to recover from Covid?
I’m not a doctor so I can’t offer medical advice, but don’t shortchange the need for rest as you recover.
@@WalkingisFitness I understand. Thank you.
Beautiful backdrop, thanks for the encouraging words. Not a morning person, but I carved out time from work first thing this morning & yesterday to walk 30-40 minutes. Turning my health & bloodwork around!
I love your attitude and willingness to try new things! Thanks for watching
Morning walks are part of my dinacharya, the Ayurvedic daily routine. (I like the word ritual rather than routine.) The birds wake me up early and invite me outdoors to greet the sun. Also take a sunset stroll to say goodbye to the sun, a shorter walk than in the morning.
I recently heard someone else say they prefer the word ritual to routine. I’m going to explore this more. Thanks for watching!
I have a lot of stress these days thank you for the inspiration
Thank you for watching
Thanks Dave! Beautiful view and very encouraging ! Have a great day😊
Thank you!!
You’re so inspiring…I’m a morning person too…but not at 3.30am….xx
Thank you! By the way…I’m not a 330a person anymore either!
I’m 63 retired
I try to walk 2h early every morning In Tx to beat the heat
In July I made it 65hrs
I admire your commitment in that heat!!
I love mornings too!
Yes!! Thanks for watching
Walking in the morning by the beach is the best thing I do for myself.
What a wonderful daily routine!
Thank you 🌄😊
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the walk I am a morning person
You’re welcome and thanks for watching
Hi Dave. Love seeing those subscription numbers climbing!👍
Thanks Wynn! You’re always so encouraging. I appreciate you
this is awesome.
Thank you Andrew!!
I start my day with a two mile walk with a weighted vest, along with my trusty buddy lucky ( jack Russell)
What a great routine! Thanks for watching
Looks beautiful there in SC
Thank you for watching!
As you said committing to walking every day is hard, I just seem to have n incentive in the morning and now as I’m in my 70s I’m inclined to lie on to 9 or 10 so any tips greatly appreciated ❤
Start small and recognize what you’re doing is hard. I think so often, we minimize the difficulty of building a habit because “walking is easy”. Building habit and sticking with it is really difficult. You might want to try listening to the Walking is Fitness podcast where you’ll get a new ten minute episode every day.
@@WalkingisFitness It is and thanks I’ll check it out 👍🏻
I am a early riser
Me too!
I m an ex Morning Radio guy .. who walks in the morning walks Are the best
I totally agree!!
The video is amazing
Thank you!
Great video! Not preachy, just motivating.
Thank you!!
I walk everyday
Thanks for watching!
How about biking vs walking?
I love both! The key is finding an activity that you enjoy and can/will do consistently.
You can use your morning walk as a metaphor for life in general: Front load all your work early, and reap (compound) benefits later. Do good habits in your mornings, will pay benefits later on in your day!
So true! Thanks for watching
I want to take a walk every morning but it’s so hard for me when it’s so darn 🥵 hot. I live in Mississippi.
Hopefully, the weather will be changing soon
👍🏾👍🏾🙌🏾💯
Thanks for watching!!
Hi Dave, I have been listening to your podcast and watching the YT videos. Regarding Fitbit, I have one but my question is sometimes I walk on a treadmill and need to hold on or when shopping I hold the shopping cart and my steps do not get counted. Do you have any suggestions for this? do you suggest a pedometer that straps to the ankle? I have read many of these are not accurate but wanted to get your input or the input of others here on this channel that have recommendations. TIA
Good question. I’ve never strapped my Fitbit to my ankle. I’ve heard from others that can be an effective way to have all your steps recorded. Candidly, I’m no longer driven by my step count so I don’t pat as much attention to it as I used to. That said, during my ten minute treadmill walk each morning, I only hold on with my right hand which leaves my left arm free to move and “count the steps.” I guess I still care enough about the number to do that.
I needed to hear this today. I’m post knee replacement and know I need to walk more. This is incentive for me to get up and get out
I wish you well in your recovery. Thanks for watching and for your kind words
I walk a lot unfortunately I don’t live by a beautiful beach 😮
Yes, I am grateful for the beach. Thanks for watching
Can I ask how many miles do you walk a day ?
I just checked and so far this year I’m averaging 18,000 steps a day which is about nine miles a day. To be clear, there’s no research I’m aware of that indicates we need to walk that much. I do it because I love it
💛
Thanks for watching
Taking a walk every day is impossible for anybody, with health issues, family or business issues, work issues, life issues ect, so there's no everyday walk possible, what is a real everyday walk in the Real world?
I love this question! This is the reason for these weekly videos and the daily podcast. Walking every day is hard!
My answer is start with what you can do...not what others say you should do. Can you take a ten-minute walk every day? If not, how about a five minute walk? If that's too much, can you find time for a one-minute walk?
Do what you can every day for 90 days. The purpose is to simply build an every day habit of fitness in the real world.
if you could put the benefits of a 3 mile walk into a pill
This made me laugh. Thanks for watching
I'd have the perfect marriage if my husband shared a morning walk with me
He's a night guy 😔
My wife and I are opposite too. She does not find the mornings enjoyable. Never has and likely never will.
get a dog!
Yes! That can be so helpful for many. Thanks for watching
