I think the intensity depends on if it’s already a tropical storm before it enters the Gulf of Mexico. The most infamous storms like Michael, Ian, and Ida were already developed before entering the Gulf. Francine and Debby were not as strong because they weren’t developed yet. As a Floridian, hoping for the latter case.
I thought the same thing and then Katrina entered the chat! Sat just below us and built itself up to a 5!! Then Rita right behind it I live in New Orleans and took a direct impact impact from that mammoth
Thank you for the second update! I very much appreciate it. I also what to thank you for taking the time to break it down were I can understand the High and low pressure. And everything else that you do. You are very much appreciated from me I am in Louisiana I need all the information you can give. You are a Blessing to me 😊
Thank you. Just hearing you talk makes me feel like I’m not alone in this walk of life with the Lord: it’s nice to be close to your own kind. Also thank you for helping everyone and going through the details.
SE Louisiana here! I’ve been watching since June and I’m so glad I found your channel! You do an awesome job of explaining the models and patterns etc! I also love the personal feel you add to your channel!! I share your videos to everyone I know all the time.
You will find out that Mitch is so passionate about the weather. He also chases storms as well, and he’s a hard working family man who fears God. I’ve been following Mitch since the beginning of this platform, and I’m glad that you found his channel. He’s honest, no thrills or flashy lights. Just plain fantastic content based on science. Welcome 🙏🏾
Hi Mitch, You have taught me so much on steering currents that decide which way this system will end up. I’m absolutely amazing how much you know and teach us. Thank you for all your hard work and time . God bless you and your family.
Houston here. We were planning a road trip down to FL leaving the 27th. I think we will end up canceling everything. Glad we have a Generac!! Best investment ever!
Thanks for the updates. Got the family beach trip next weekend in Gulf Shores so keeping an eye on it. Glad I paid the extra $100 for hurricane insurance.

Good morning from Greece! Your amazing I watch you all the time! I'm afraid that this is going to get the name of Isaac, if I'm correct hurricanes with names that start with an I are often very bad. I'm prey this doesn't!
My gosh Mitch you went beast mode on this update, man you did a great job 👏🏾. I’m a huge nerd 🤓 so I’m giggling 🤭 right now. My biggest concern is people in our area complain so much after Debby that they wouldn’t heed the advice IF it followed the GFS. One thing I would say is that the GFS is really good with storms like a CAG because NOAA sends them data due to their weather balloons. The German and Euro models does a great job with long track storms because they have access to more data than the GFS because of the intercontinental date line and their proximity to Africa.
Thanks for pointing that out because yeah, it seems like the GFS is always garbage but you’re right… I’ve been watching the MDR/L basin most of the season.
This system is forming near my country ( Cayman Islands). A big rain maker coming this weekend! Stay safe to all others that will be affected by this system 🙏🏻
uh oh... I hope people know that it will change a lot, A lot of people like to stick to one run and say that's what's going to happen but it's always changing
I’ve been hearing the AI Euro has been pretty accurate and that run is not targeting Florida. I wish we had the stats on GFS accuracy but it seems I hear the standard Euro is better than the GFS most often.
@@cherylschneider6903 - I live in RI, any model run over 7 days is not reliable and Mitch was focusing on RIGHT NOW there is no storm at this time. He will discuss the Northeast as soon as he gets reliable info..
Your tick word is “development”. You can’t go 1 minute without saying it. And FINALLY you actually explain and break down ensembles and NOT give opinions or hype up sh*t like Mike’s Weather Page…..

That was smart!
Crazy that this gulf system if it forms has the potential to take the infamous I name
Actually it will be HELENE not Isaac...
Reminds me of how hurricane Michael formed!
Thankyou Mitch. Tropical systems love weak wind shear.
This was very educational. Thank you for taking the time to explain it. Excellent video!
Thank you!!!
Thank you and rest well.
Good luck Florida from Texas look like 2 is heading there right after this one
Both will be Florida cause they’ll be in the same path.
This is an I storm. Floridians know what that means. I already got my supplies tonight before everyone else figured it out lol

I've invented a new weather word to hit between the Gyre and Yucatan, that's "Gulfanization". It fits perfectly.

Hello from se Louisiana
Hello from se Virginia 🌎
Hello from the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Also se Louisiana !
SE Louisiana here too
Florida never has any luck with the I storms. Ivan, Irma, Idalia, etc. I guess we see which storm takes the I first.
uh oh... I hope people know that it will change a lot, A lot of people like to stick to one run and say that's what's going to happen but it's always changing
I hope it doesn’t get FL panhandle because we are leaving on vacation next weekend the 28.
MItch porque GFS ES TAN ALARMANTE Y AGRESIVO..SIENDO UN BUEN MODELO EN OCASIONES ✋️🇵🇷
It’s going to be an OG Florida hurricane.

NOLA HERE
Would you know how many years in a row has a major hurricane hit the US? I do think this will be a big one.
Hurricane strikes by decade. www.nhc.noaa.gov/pastdec.shtml
Don't forget GULFPORT..I never hear you mention it I life here ..PLEASE
YEAH me too 😅
LB here too
My bet is on,, turning East into Fla.
I have a question ❓ so when the low pressure just stops in one spot do that mean it can get bigger and stronger ?
It depends on the environmental conditions that it’s working with.
Yes. Most likely. Especially if it’s in the hottest waters. Which it will be.
Depends on the environment. In the example in this video, the upper wind pattern favors strengthening.
thank you for continuously putting out great content, I already asked but I thought I'd try one more time lol. what do you use to draw on your screen?
It's call "Epic pin" (I think) haha
@@MitchWestWeather tysm 😊
Which has been more accurate? Euro or GFS?
Historically the Euro. But the Euro isn't the best with the tropics.
AI called francine!
Did you notice a twin that may hit Mexico south coast?
I'm gonna put some mojo on it so here in upstate SC we don't get the eye or the eastern edge of this thing....
So what is the storm actually going to do?
Hahaha pick a state any state!
@@MitchWestWeather yeah. Lol. Can you ask the weather Gods to please spare Louisiana? We're still cleaning up from Francine. 😵💫🥴😮💨
why is there no point in showing the north east? currently freaking out and high anxiety here in CT lol
