Oh my god I’m finally seeing a person on here with my curl issues. I’ve been hating my hair recently bc it’s sooo uneven everywhere. It gives me spaces and its such a wonky shape lol. I want to get a curly cut, but they’re ridiculously expensive

Same here! Been trying out different routines and products for months. Weird thing is as a little kid my hair was just a bit wavy and then in middle school got extremely wavy and as I got older it got extremely curly. The underneath has super tight ringlet curls and the top has loose and some tighter waves and then there is the 2 front pieces that lay completely flat and straight 😭
@@daniellecolbeck1983 right?? And never knowing how it’s gonna dry every time I wash it. Some days are curlier than others even if I use the same products I normally would. Hi Gena, I just found your channel and have been watching and learning. I am 67 with salt & pepper hair, more salt than pepper. It always had body, but after menopause, it has gotten curly (2c -3a). I'm having trouble with figuring out porosity. I think it's about medium and as I age, it's getting thinner on top. I have never colored it and until the COVID lockdown, always wore it very short (almost pixie) washed it, fluffed it and air dried or defused. I am immune compromised so I haven't had it cut since Feb. All the layers are growing out unevenly and with different curliness. So instead of fighting it with clips and haeadbands, I've decided to try and work with it since i'm not going anywhere. I got some Not Your Mother's products and as I said, have been watching various videos and getting confused. I just got some clarifying shampoo, but don't have a deep conditioner. Do I have to deep condition afterward or should I wait to clarify until I get deep conditioner? I have no idea if I need protein or not. Any help you can give would be so appreciated. Thank you!

I was already using a thick leave in only on my top layer due to being so high porosity.
Great video! I would love to see something specifically on products which encourage shrinkage. Most of the curly community on YT seems obsessed with elongating curls; but my hair has become much looser over the years and I really want to tighten the curl as much as possible. Thank you so much for your videos. I have been using CGM for @ two months and I’m beginning to see changes. But prior to that my hair began going through a lot of changes. They have been: 1. I haven’t been to a curly hair stylist yet. I’m near Chattanooga TN but haven’t checked resources here yet. I have worn my hair short most of my adult life but started letting it grow during COVID & it’s still only just 2” below my ears wet on side. It’s shorter in back, wedge style. It also has color with highlights. Any suggestions you have would be very much appreciated.
Parts of my hair are completely straight, and other parts curl at the root- and other parts only at the end. It feels like cotton- but I’m told it’s healthy. I really don’t know how to manage it- so I’m looking forward to applying this advice to my life!
I learned so many things! You identified problems and gave me great suggestions. I really like the way you did this video. The voice over was a nice way to focus on what you were doing. Thank you!

My underlayers get so stretched out! Can't wait to use your technique! Thank you, Gena Marie! And I totally agree, clarifying helps a lot. I only use CGM approved products but whenever I remember to clarify, I see my waves bounce back up. (Definitely don't want to do it too often but it's good once in a while)

Thank you for this video. I'm struggling with my neck hair that are completely straight (I have 2b/2c wavy hair). I will definitely try some of this tips!
😱 This drives me Freaking crazy 😝 lol And I notice the last time I straightened my hair , I have a couple of curls that have just decided to become wavy lol
I still can't tell what kind of hair I have. I didn't even know I had curly hair until earlier this year. Always thought it was just frizzy and unmanageable. Finally made a comment on FB about it and my own mother tells me, oh yea, you were born with this curly mop and I just couldn't deal with taking care of it. So for my entire childhood she brushed it all out and as an adult I spent 20 years taking a flat iron to it not knowing any better. So it started out pretty wavy the first time I did a curly wash day. and it's progressed to having a few weighed down ringlets here and there but this has only been since March of this year. Still struggling with what I need to be using and this whole moisture vs protein thing. I've always wondered how my daughter came out with super curly hair...lol Hers was very tight 3c curls as a baby but they started to weigh down and stretch out as she got older.
Gena Marie Thanks so much for this video 💜 your videos are so helpful btw. love the "curl training with olaplex" it works great!!! Have lovely day and STAY SAFE💜
Hi - very helpful and informative! I got a 'straight' hair haircut on my 3B curls. The stylist cut into the curls, disrupted the curl patterns and the result is frizzy mess. My formerly thicker ringlets are now pieces of wispy uneven pieces. Any advice on what to do until this grows out (years from now)? Help!
it’s amazing i have some 2c spots and it ranges all the way to 3c (majority 3a and 3b). i believe it’s a combination of different genetics causing curly hair plus some damage and not good styling.
My hair is crazy. It’s almost shoulder length, but it’s fine and loose curly near my bangs. And the back it’s thick and wavy. Underneath my hair, there are a few curls here and there. In the middle of my hair it’s puffy and straight. It switches up every day too!
i don’t know how to deal with my curls- i’m used to just straightening my hair, it got to the point where i didn’t have any curls anymore because it was so damaged so i need to really up my game. i’m a little more than year without heat! hopefully my hair keeps getting more healthy
Got the Oliplex last week and the towel this week 🙂 thanks for the codes. The Oliplex worked maybe? The bottom half of my hair is very curly and nice..the top and front is lose waves and by days end the waves are really stretched out. I dont follow the CGM anymore because the style and curls always came out the same no matter what I did. (I followed for a soild 2yrs and dont have any hair damage.) Im contemplating just cutting off the length. Maybe wearing my hair up is causing the front to be stretched out and less curly? Idk.
Ty! The left side of my hair is very curly while the other side (the right) is just wavy/kinda curly, a 2a shape, while the left is like a 2c, 3a. I’m trying to grow out my hair, and I get my hair cut every 2-3 months. I don’t straighten my hair anymore either. I’ll try finding the bounce curl leave in conditioner as well. I have a lot of layers and I don’t know if that makes it the way it is, or not. I use leave in conditioner, this curl cream, and a mosse (i don’t know how to spell it, also forgot the name brands. I think the mosse is Not your mothers, I have a lot of not your mothers products, it makes my hair really stick together and feel like little branches.) I want my hair to be soft, and curly and it already turns out that way. Any tips?
I have 2a/2b waves/curls in the front of my head (frames my face) and 2a/1c all the way to the back of my head (and the nape of my neck is almost always 1c) I just started CGM less than a month ago and hopefully my curl pattern can be more even using these tips Thank you for the video!
Could you explain how to properly use hair oils and serum? And what is really the difference between oil and serum? Also thank you for all your great advice! It has definitely improved my hair.
Great video suggestion! I don’t use them much in my routine other than for pre-poo treatments, which I’ve done a video on. I can definitely cover them more soon
I have 2c-3a curls and my biggest problem is trying to refresh my hair the next day. Im not sure if I'm just using the wrong products or if I should wet my hair a certain way.i wet it and make it damp then apply product to scrunch and it becomes frizzy or tangled. If I apply the product on dry hair it's just sticky. Either way my hair doesn't recurl, it's sticky and frizzy 🥺
Oh I know that exact issue. When I wash and use mosturing products, I have super nice curly hair for 12 hours... The day after it starts to get naughty... I have no Tips for that
Do you live in a humid environment? I used to have this problem until I started using sulfates and silicones again, it actually helped me a lot. Silicones are great for keeping humidity out of your hair which reduces frizz and they don't build up on your hair as much as oils do. Glycerin free products are good too, or at least products who have glycerin low on the ingredients list. Amodimethicone is my favorite silicone personally bc it doesn't build up at all
@@sailormoon444 No problem ! I recommend using products with protein in them as well, it helps maintain the shape and strength of the hair, avoid humectants!
I don’t understand the need to brush, scrunch, comb, scrunch, repeat. My curls go all different directions, some are only curly at the top or bottom half, some switch directions halfway down. Most are tight, bottom half is a completely different texture, bigger curls, and is insanely frizzy no matter what I do/use. 😢 help!
I have a lot of 3A and then the rest is just a mix of 2c all the way to 1b, I decided to grow it down to shoulder and that’s when I started noticing. when my hair was short it just all looked like a curly fro kinda thing and now that it’s long the front is usually pretty curly but the back of my head is flat and basically strait and so is towards the top mostly, one thing is all my hair has a consistent hook/ring at the bottom. Don’t know what the hell to do with it but it’s so Inconsistent it pisses me off, I’ve tried defusing product layering nothing helps it. Should I just cut it?
I actually have curls around the edges (2c-3a) but most of it is 2a with 1c in the back (crown). It can look great in the front, but terrible in the back.
Good evening Gena Marie . 🙂.. thank you for the tutorial, I never would have given though to using different product throughout the hair.... I appreciate your help.. Sincerely Tee Jay
Thank you so much for this! I think the reason my 3c hair is less curly in the back is bc I have a habit of pulling on it and I have for years. I've only used heat on my hair a couple times over the years so I know it's not that. As a toddler I had really tight 4a-4b curls and when I got older it when to about 3a-3b then when I got to late middle school it went to 3c-4a curls. It's so frustrating but I love my curls so much.
my hair ranges 1a-3a naturally, a huge chunk of it is completely straight. its not damaged thats just how it is and people think its by choice and that i straighten it
I'm so mad because I realized too late that my hair was so badly damaged from flat ironing it everyday and so now, since I cut it with the vision of it being straight, it doesn't look good natural.
mine too!!!! it’s so annoying. when i bring my hair to the front it looks so nice because you can see my curly bits but when you look behind it’s very very loose wavy and some pieces look straight 😭
I’ve been pretty down hearted with my hair lately, I’ve never had heat damage I think I’ve only straightened my hair 4 times. But I’ve noticed I’ve never had ringlets and if I get any I have to finger coil or finger roll. I’ve always been pretty nice to my hair and I’ve been deep conditioning weekly. But no matter how much work I put into my hair my hair is thick unmanageable and frizzing is just it’s natural state. Everytime I look up “why is my hair frizzy” and stuff like that it’s always tells me I have heat damage!? I’ve been considering shaving my head at this point, I’m just tired of putting this amount of pressure on my hair. If you have any tips or reason why this is happening please help, I really want to fix this! :(
Nono you probably have too much protein and need more moisture. Check your deep conditioners and switch the ones with way too much protein. I use two and alternate them every time I wash my hair. I use one shea moisture sea kelp and then the mielle babassu and mint.
My top hair is completely straight... My lower hair on the other hand is pretty curly... This makes a haircut quite difficult as the lower hair ahrinks up a lot
Loved this video! But I do have one question, I’m just starting to transition to taking care of my curly hair and whatever videos I watch I hear of the curly girl method! I have no idea what it means!! Could someone explain it real quick?😬
My top hair is dry 3c hair because of a straightening and hard usage. All the rest of my head is exactly 3B healthy and shiny curls. And my hair type has changed, before it was 3A, then changed to 3B and then I damaged my top hair.
The back layer of my hair id lick straight wavvey with dead ends is that normal? Cause my hair id natturally 3c so licke why is the back layer licke that also ive tried curling and scrunching it but it just stays its been licke for two to three years now what should i do?,is it normal, and is it a sign of damage?
my front curls are super pretty like actually curls and then the back if curly but the top layer of the back are frizzy 😭 and then the middle ends are frizyy it’s a whole disaster
Your hair is more manageable and curlier than mine, I don't understand why it feels like I'm reaping my scalp whenever I try to separate it in sections. Help!
i’m watching this after completely knowing my hair is naturally wavy/curly and giving up out of defeat and frustration because my hair NEVER holds the curl for more than a few hours even with product so i give up and brush it and it gets fluffy
Don’t know what to do, some parts are uneven zigzag, some straight, and parts in front are uneven curls. I couldn’t handle it so went for keratin treatment. (My left shoulder is severely injured & I cant use it to style hair) trying to style is almost impossible & can take hours. Ugh!
My hair is so weird,my underlayers are 1c,my right side is 2b ,my left 2a,and my bangs 2c but I deadass saw a almost 3a curl Is really annoying because I feel like I'm lying when I say I have wavy hair
I’ve been noticing that the places I have gray streaks, at my temples, are coming in much straighter (2b vs 3a-3b). Don’t know what I can do about that. No heat styling or color for over 4 years, so all natural un-abused hair.
I’m on my journey back to curly hair. I have heat, color and straightening damage (over a period of 12 years). I have 3a 3b and sometimes 2c curls. I have tried to restore my hair with some luck but not what I was hoping for, that is, until I started to use Redkens Acidic Bonding Concentrate. I have used it (shampoo, conditioner, and leave in) twice so far and am ecstatic about the results. Would love for you to do a review.
Hey! My hair starts to curl from the middle of my head or even lower and it curls strongly, like 3a curls in the ends. It looks really weird. I tried to ask trichologists about that, but they never know. Is it just the way my hair is? Can i change it somehow? (Olaplex does almost nothing)
Sofya Klim Mine does the same thing. I think it’s just natural. The top and back bottom of my hair is wavy but the front pieces and bottoms curl (like big cork screw curls).
I have more straight/wavy hair (male) except its weird, I have this one small section in the front of my hair, the hair on top I guess? a small section that curls to the left, no matter what I do. It does not match up with the rest of my hair at all.
my curls at the back of my head clumps together, so dry, doesn’t get a gel cast and too curly at the ends normally my hair would be wavy at the ends I don’t know why they are like that now I’ve been trying to find a solution for so long but couldn’t find anyone with the same problem tried to do techniques in the video it helped with the shape just a little please help

My brother has natural 2C-3A curls, they’re most prominent on the front half of his head. The back half is flat-2a. We couldn’t get them to grow well the first time. Is the back of his head this way from him sleeping on it? What’s goin on
my hair on the top is 100% straight. i have very thick, long (28 inches) and straight hair. but i have about five frizzy, short ringlets right at my neck. i have no idea what the cause is. i also do not use heat on my hair more often then around once a month, and use heat protectant, so i do not know what is causing them.
Omg girl I have these 2 or 3 strands in the inside back of my head that I swear grow faster too! I have to keep cutting those strands every now and then because they just poke out and they're all in the same area lmao! I don't get them!!! I keep getting afraid my next wash day they'll end up being shorter than the rest of my hair and it was just some stretched-out fluke the day I cut them but that hasn't happened yet haha!
My Hair is very curly at the crown of my head weirdly loose dry curls on the middle top of my head and the hair underneath is straight not even wavy its insane
i dont believe it is hair damage for me since i shaved my head for a fresh start, and i havent cut my hair so its alk the same legnth, ill try oils and cleaning buildups, but idk
Having curly hair is so stressful

Thank you for this video. I'm struggling with my neck hair that are completely straight (I have 2b/2c wavy hair). I will definitely try some of this tips!
Your hair as really gotten filled looking since some of your earlier videos. The cut looks great. I enjoy your content.
This is so helpful!! Ty! My baby hairs are wavy and loose from tight hairstyles and the rest is curly
this helps me so much omg. the front half of my hair is super curly but the back is wavy. i will definitely be trying this!!
Thank you for this video and the discount code! I can’t wait to try olaplex for the first time!
😱 This drives me Freaking crazy 😝 lol
And I notice the last time I straightened my hair , I have a couple of curls that have just decided to become wavy lol
Gena Marie Thanks so much for this video 💜 your videos are so helpful
btw. love the "curl training with olaplex" it works great!!! Have lovely day and STAY SAFE💜
So glad it worked for you!
I’m so glad I found your channel !!
Help!
has your hair recovered yet?
@@izzym009 Thanks for asking - yes they did :). Decided to try a Rëzo cut and now have a new regret :)
it’s amazing i have some 2c spots and it ranges all the way to 3c (majority 3a and 3b). i believe it’s a combination of different genetics causing curly hair plus some damage and not good styling.
Thank you for the time stamps in the description. 😊
Wow it hair comes out perfect everytime!
My hair is crazy. It’s almost shoulder length, but it’s fine and loose curly near my bangs. And the back it’s thick and wavy. Underneath my hair, there are a few curls here and there. In the middle of my hair it’s puffy and straight. It switches up every day too!
Can you do a video about refresh your curls the next day
i don’t know how to deal with my curls- i’m used to just straightening my hair, it got to the point where i didn’t have any curls anymore because it was so damaged so i need to really up my game. i’m a little more than year without heat! hopefully my hair keeps getting more healthy
Idk.
Awesome information 👌🏼 thank you for this video!!!
Any tips?
I have 2a/2b waves/curls in the front of my head (frames my face) and 2a/1c all the way to the back of my head (and the nape of my neck is almost always 1c)
I just started CGM less than a month ago and hopefully my curl pattern can be more even using these tips
Thank you for the video!
How’s it going??
Any update on your cgm journey?
İ love your videos, they're soooo informative!! Thank you!!
Your hair is so pretty
Very helpful! Thank you ❤ I have fine curly hair 3b,3c. How often do you wash your hair?
You're lovely and really experienced....God bless you ♥️
Could you explain how to properly use hair oils and serum? And what is really the difference between oil and serum?
Also thank you for all your great advice! It has definitely improved my hair.
Great video suggestion! I don’t use them much in my routine other than for pre-poo treatments, which I’ve done a video on. I can definitely cover them more soon
Great comprehensive video! 👋🏼
Thank you for such a detailed video! 💕 Appreciate it! 😁
Amodimethicone is my favorite silicone personally bc it doesn't build up at all
@@cassiloca I have all four seasons but I will try to use silicone products ! Thank you ❤️
@@sailormoon444 No problem ! I recommend using products with protein in them as well, it helps maintain the shape and strength of the hair, avoid humectants!
@@cassiloca do you have a refresher spray or product u recommend?
I don’t understand the need to brush, scrunch, comb, scrunch, repeat. My curls go all different directions, some are only curly at the top or bottom half, some switch directions halfway down. Most are tight, bottom half is a completely different texture, bigger curls, and is insanely frizzy no matter what I do/use. 😢 help!
u are a life savuor vuz my curl pattern was so bad and now i NEED IT TO GET FIXED
Holyyy your hair changed so much
I have a lot of 3A and then the rest is just a mix of 2c all the way to 1b, I decided to grow it down to shoulder and that’s when I started noticing. when my hair was short it just all looked like a curly fro kinda thing and now that it’s long the front is usually pretty curly but the back of my head is flat and basically strait and so is towards the top mostly, one thing is all my hair has a consistent hook/ring at the bottom. Don’t know what the hell to do with it but it’s so Inconsistent it pisses me off, I’ve tried defusing product layering nothing helps it. Should I just cut it?
Thank you for this video it's so helpful ❤️
I actually have curls around the edges (2c-3a) but most of it is 2a with 1c in the back (crown). It can look great in the front, but terrible in the back.
Good evening Gena Marie .
🙂.. thank you for the tutorial, I never would have given though to using different product throughout the hair....
I appreciate your help..
Sincerely Tee Jay
This was the first time I tried it and it helped!
@@GenaMarie
Alright alright alright..
Your first time using this method 💕...I saw how well it works... Thank you again
Sincerely Tee Jay
Too much product for me. Looks great on you. What kind of sprayer are you using?
You do the best videos!
thank you !! i thought i was the only one who had uneven curls 🤦🏽♀️
For some reason the front of my hair are pretty tight curls, while the back is extremely loose and almost looks straight. 😭
ME TOO OML ITS SO FRUSTRATING
mine too!!!! it’s so annoying. when i bring my hair to the front it looks so nice because you can see my curly bits but when you look behind it’s very very loose wavy and some pieces look straight 😭
it's the opposite for me and it's so annoying
Bro same wth😭😭😭😭😭
my hair is basically straight underneath and on top i have like 2b/2c/3a
omg WE ARE TWINS! Have you find a way to manage it?
If you want to try to have healthy natural hair, do you have to completely do away with heat styling? I love both looks 😭
I have one section on my hair that is completely straight while the rest is curly I’m not sure why and no I don’t use heat only 1 time a year
My top hair is completely straight...
I have a video on the Curly Girl Method for Beginners: ua-cam.com/video/F-pHgNBnZI4/v-deo.html 😊
Gena Marie Thank you so much!😁
My top hair is dry 3c hair because of a straightening and hard usage. All the rest of my head is exactly 3B healthy and shiny curls. And my hair type has changed, before it was 3A, then changed to 3B and then I damaged my top hair.
Hi Gena, did you link the plop diffuse video? I don’t see it. Thank you!
Whoops forgot to link it! Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/qLfGNv-tLBA/v-deo.html
Gena Marie Thank you! 😊
Same but my hair is mostly 3b and the back is wavy
i have the exact same problem
My top hairs are super curly but like all the hairs at the bottom near my neck are mostly all quite straight why?
my front curls are super pretty like actually curls and then the back if curly but the top layer of the back are frizzy 😭 and then the middle ends are frizyy it’s a whole disaster
Your hair is more manageable and curlier than mine, I don't understand why it feels like I'm reaping my scalp whenever I try to separate it in sections. Help!
What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use?! I would really like to know.
i have 3C hair and when it gets frizzy there’s a bunch of 1A looking pieces on top and there are no tutorials that can help me fix it
i’m watching this after completely knowing my hair is naturally wavy/curly and giving up out of defeat and frustration because my hair NEVER holds the curl for more than a few hours even with product so i give up and brush it and it gets fluffy
Don’t know what to do, some parts are uneven zigzag, some straight, and parts in front are uneven curls. I couldn’t handle it so went for keratin treatment. (My left shoulder is severely injured & I cant use it to style hair) trying to style is almost impossible & can take hours. Ugh!
My hair is so weird,my underlayers are 1c,my right side is 2b ,my left 2a,and my bangs 2c but I deadass saw a almost 3a curl
Is really annoying because I feel like I'm lying when I say I have wavy hair
I’ve been noticing that the places I have gray streaks, at my temples, are coming in much straighter (2b vs 3a-3b). Don’t know what I can do about that. No heat styling or color for over 4 years, so all natural un-abused hair.
mine are the same way! I have a gray patch that is not as curly. I think it's just natural. Olaplex has helped the most with that area for me,
I’m on my journey back to curly hair.
It does not match up with the rest of my hair at all.
my curls at the back of my head clumps together, so dry, doesn’t get a gel cast and too curly at the ends normally my hair would be wavy at the ends I don’t know why they are like that now I’ve been trying to find a solution for so long but couldn’t find anyone with the same problem tried to do techniques in the video it helped with the shape just a little please help
hey im here recently in 2022 october i realised i have curly hair but ive always brushed them out , im trying many different things on my hair rightnow to see what suits the better, rn i got no diffuser or expensive hair products so its kinda hard to wake up in the morninf with loose curls , at this moment on my startinf journey to heal my amazing childhood curls i have the same type as you did when ur hair weighted down, any tips from somebody?
My brother has natural 2C-3A curls, they’re most prominent on the front half of his head. The back half is flat-2a. We couldn’t get them to grow well the first time. Is the back of his head this way from him sleeping on it? What’s goin on
He doesn’t use product or heat to style his hair
my hair on the top is 100% straight. i have very thick, long (28 inches) and straight hair. but i have about five frizzy, short ringlets right at my neck. i have no idea what the cause is. i also do not use heat on my hair more often then around once a month, and use heat protectant, so i do not know what is causing them.
thank u! i have 2a, 2b, 2c, and 3a all over my hair 😭
Hi there, how do I keep my curls from curling up too much, longer curls instead of shrinkage ?
My Hair is very curly at the crown of my head weirdly loose dry curls on the middle top of my head and the hair underneath is straight not even wavy its insane
the way we have the same hair-
exact same problem i want to fix the middle of my head being cry and alot looser
When you clarify, do you use your regular shampoo after, or do you just go in with a conditioner?
I always deep condition after clarifying to replenish the moisture :)
@@GenaMarie i use my regular shampoo before I clarify then a deep conditioner. Is using my regular shampoo first too much?
i have 3b hair but in on the on the back under my curls it’s 2a does anyone know how i can fix it
Same here!!!!!! I feel safe hereee
Thank u bc the back of my head the curls are larger then the ones at front
Very helpful!👍 thanks 😀
I have a combination of 2b, 2c, & 3a😭😭

From straight to 3a here 🤣
i dont believe it is hair damage for me since i shaved my head for a fresh start, and i havent cut my hair so its alk the same legnth, ill try oils and cleaning buildups, but idk
