Gomez is my favourite character (it's so hard to choose one!). He's fun and free-spirited, he fences, plays with model train sets and can walk up walls! (as seen in Scooby Doo meets the Addams Family) - Pugsley takes after his dad at climbing walls (he climbs them in anticipation in the animated movie). Gomez is hardly ever serious, loves everything and everyone and takes most things as as a game. His looks are weird, he is the epitome of kooky and I think he's great. Love him 😂
The only thing I find weird about The Addams is the fact that Gomez and Morticia only have 2 Kids... 😁

Fun Fact: Ted Cassidy played both Lurch and Thing in this version of The Addams Family.
If you watch throughout this episode you can see Thing change back and forth from being a Left and Right hand. Traditionally he's been a right hand.

The Addams Family are living every part of the American dream. Big beautiful house filled with nice things, hired help, harmonious family and perfect marriage with loving extended family, literal money to burn.......sigh
truth, and they're immune from discrimination for their spiritual practices, nobody is burning down their house for growing some plants or speaking with the dead.
They really are my favorite TV family. Same with the Simpsons before season 8...

The happiest, healthiest, most lovable family in TV history. How many married couples on TV not just loved each other, but LUSTED for each other, the way Gomez and Morticia did? And they loved their children and everyone else, too. Next tosomeone like the Cleavers, who seemed so emotionally icy that they were TRULY eerie, the Addamses were a dream family. I was about 12 years old when they were on, and I used to have incredible happy fantasies about having them as neighbors. I would have spent ALL my time at their house!
And such a sweet menagerie of pets! (and Thing)

Jackie Coogan was one of the most underrated and underutilized actors in Hollywood history. I remember watching this show as a kid and never knowing the significant role he played in Hollywood history.
Wasn’t he one of the first child stars in Hollywood?
He was also a decorated Army Air Corp pilot during WW II flying British troops behind enemy lines.

Like "The Andy Griffith Show", this sitcom rarely ever dates itself with a reference to current events or something like that. Good of the writers, as it makes the show timeless.

So funny because this show, filmed in the early 1960s, also takes place in the early 1960s, yet she is using a 3-D photo viewer from the 1800s. THIS is one more reason I loved this show! And the house from the opening credits shows an antenna on the roof yet never is a television set shown. The family plays games together, reads, dances, plays music, fences.... No time for television when they were so busy living!
The political episode had a TV in it. I think it was called "Gomez the Politician". That's the only one I can think of with a TV in it.

Carolyn Jones only made two season what a pity. This was one of the best performances I have seen from stage actor from the movie after who played alongside Marilyn Monroe ever! They really had something here and after two seasons it was canceled. The munsters and bewitched were released the same moment as the Addams family. Hey the world went silly and I loved it. All I hope is that people know that Carolyn JonesWas not only a great actress but she was a wonderful human being I love her very much and would like to see more people engrossed in her work.
Anjelica Houston said that when she played Morticia in the movie, she really had to work hard to recreate the part for heself, because Carolyn Jones basically OWNED it. Anjelica did a good job, but to me Carolyn is the one and only Morticia.

Uncle Fester was everyone’s or almost everyone’s favorite Uncle during the run of the Addams family run on ABC from 1964 to 1966 on Friday nights.
Back then, I wished I could be in their family, rather than my own. They loved each other. They had what they needed and anything they wanted. They weren't cruel or hateful to each other.
I was 8yrs 1964 ,Love this rate G show prime time. Nothing like it today. Funny

This show is addicting. Fester is a riot.
It was Ted Cassidy's idea to say "you rang?'. The producers were so taken my his magnificent voice they gave him a few lines in every episode. Originally, he wasn't meant to talk at all.
It never dawned on me before now, but Uncle Fester {Jackie Coogan}, reminds me of Curly Howard {Jerome Howard} of the Three Stooges.
He has a similar mannerism to Curly.

This show genuinely would not feel out of place on television today. It was really ahead of its time.
And would still be better than everything else on today.
Except it has morals and stuff with actual comedy and plot, but other than that it would be great.

Imagine 'uncle Fester's' old friends in real life seeing him as the odd star he was. He of course was an intrepid and brave glider pilot in the Pacific theatre of WW2 from what I've read, a far cry from lighting bulbs...with your mouth...

After Thing retreats inside his box, notice how the box's lid is shaking up and down!!! A weird glitch for sure. Then, as Morticia comes up to the harpsichord and speaks to Wednesday, she places her hand and arm on top of the lid to stop it from moving!
Either Carolyn Jones was very observant and thought to stop it in character, or the director motioned to her (off camera) to place her hand on Thing's box lid.

I always thought that Morticia & Gomez were the best couple, so loving and committed to each other. I never really found them weird just as they say eccentric and a little off. The Addams Family & Roseanne were my favorite shows growing up, I always wanted to be a part of their families. Growing up my parents and I always said we were a bit off and proud of being different. Even today my husband and I love to say how crazy we are. A little bit of crazy makes life more interesting.
Ted Cassidy is such an wholesome man, very underestimated actor.

Here's something to ponder upon. In the episode where Mortisha and Gomez get married Fester is her uncle, but in the movie Addams Family Values Fester and Gomez are brothers. Somebody made a boo boo.
In this original series Fester was Morticia’s Uncle. For whatever reason in the first movie he became Gomez’s Brother and has been ever since.

Wiki just says "In the original sitcom of the 1960s, Fester is said to be Morticia's maternal uncle, but in all other filmed and animated content he is Gomez's brother, making him uncle to Wednesday and Pugsley."
I also just learned that the original single-panel cartoons didn't even give the characters NAMES!
So, unlike super heroes, Harry Potter, or even things like Better Call Saul or Jay & Silent Bob, there will never be 'canon' to refer to in the "Addams universe".
I found that kind of disappointing; I've gotten somewhat accustomed to having back stories on everything in the 21st century.
