I met Steve in the 80's, he and his son Justin came into our Record Shop in West Nashville. I started following his music, and it inspired me to buy a guitar and write myself. Which I always wanted to do, but I played drums. Steve became a mentor thru his music and we stayed in touch.. I still keep up, but it's been a while since we talked. But I seen him during the dark days and the light. Great interview.
    Rock on Steve.

The younger generation - there‘s allways the younger generation. And everybody goes through these phases. First they tell you „when I was a kid things were so and so“ and it was allways better. Then, as one gets old there is this melancholic rememberance and found memorys of the past… when there was no email, no smart phones and you would speak to each other face to face even or espescially when there was conflict. Now there is a certain avoidance of anything binding… now in German we have the word „verbindlich“ as a term describing your acts towards other people… I could not find a proper translation. But it‘s something that I fell is getting less and less. Like, stand by your word, get there in time etc. it‘s a kind of courtesy which seems to be getting lost? Or is it not?

The breakdown in the family, in community is a huge problem, just in my opinion. Those stories of my parents and grandparents? I loved them, asked for them, eventually realized they played a role in defining who I was.

Its unfortunate that steve is not able to view his past work and self with the credit its due. I understand the tendency to have our present sober self feel of speak as though we're so superior shadowing the self we once were. That also is cause for those who loved the old music and images of the music and steve to somehow feel ashamed or I'm embarrassed and feel belittled because i was drunk and high to and loved the life and music ,until we didn't, like it or want it anymore and became and arrived who and where we find our former selves today. . No need to be self centered or argent. Remember we're all still walkin on that hillbilly highway after turning off copper head road rite. Dont forget those that are still where we were and are suffering on there journey to get sober or where ever it is they are going. Be humble hillbilly.
