    This will be a highly debated topic. Treat this video as one of many resources available online in your search for an espresso machine. Do the research and form your own opinions. Consider what you really need and want and where you might go in the future.
    Don’t get something because some stranger on the internet tells you to (and I have seen the comments on a few of my vids about people saying “this is trash buy this instead” type things).
    At the end of the day we all want the same thing - good coffee! Be civil and open up discussions in the comment section!

      Could you check out the ECM classika Pid ii and let me know you opinion on it? I’m still torn on to be conservative and get the gaggia classic and mod it with a Pid and change to 9bar pressure or go for the classika. Big price difference but I’m tempted for the classika 🙈 I’ve seen I can get an rokit apartamento for the same price as the classika. I’m in the uk by the way. Considering I’m mainly looking to drink espresso 85% of the time and not worried about serving guests. Do you think the classika or the apartamento is a better machine from looking at the specs and the fact that I’m mainly interested in espresso? Please please help me coffee god! 🙏😜

      @@MrHayden11 if you're mainly interested in espresso you should really consider a machine with the better heat stability. HX machines can be a bother on that point because of the cooling flushes you need to perform. Heat stability was also one of the main missing factors in this video for me.

    Great video, thanks!
    I think one part that may not come across as so clear is that a nicer E61 “starter” machine like your Rocket Appartamento will take around 30 minutes to heat up. A Gaggia Classic Pro is ready to go in 10. Depending on your routine in the mornings that difference may be a deal breaker, just like if you are someone that steams milk for 4 drinks constantly then the Gaggia will not suffice. Make sure you understand what you are getting into and how it fits what you want to do.

    • @perldog07
      @perldog07 2 роки тому

      If you're making four drinks at once on the regular my mind screams for an apron and tip jar.
      That is a serious consideration. Right now I would be hard pressed to afford something that would be significantly quicker than a moka and press or aeropress and French press for two drinks.
      Whatever I get will be slower.

    I spent the last five days going back-and-forth between the Appartamento, the Bianca, the Elizabeth, and now back to the appartmento 😂😂😂
    I can’t lie, the cosmetics of the machine definitely weigh on my decision! - spending over $1500 I want to appreciate the look of it of course LOL
    Just hard figuring out the things I actually need, when I haven’t had a chance to try them.
    But ultimately, I want the “look” of the rocket and Bianca - and the ability to make really good flat whites and Americanos, although easily have coffee three or four times a day, I’m the only one in my house that does.
    Probably sticking with the Appartamento.

    For $$ (entry prosumer) budget I would highly recommend the Oscar II. It's at around $1k, you get HX, 58mm portafilters and INSANE milk froathing. Basically you're getting a machine very similar to Appartamento for lower price.

    • @Markiller15
      @Markiller15 3 роки тому

      True, but if you want a piece of art, and a very competent machine (i.e. good temperature control), I think the MaraX is a real winner. The Oscar II is a great bang for your buck if you drink milk based drinks, but not stable enough temperature wise for straight espressos. Also, I’m personally not a big fan of its looks, but that’s very subjective.

    • @rafasuchodolski7955

    • @Markiller15
      @Markiller15 3 роки тому +1

      @@rafasuchodolski7955 I think you can achieve an awesome espresso with it, but it will need more work and more knowledge of all the parameters to adjust to get a great shot. Since the temperature is controlled by a pressurestat, it can vary a lot. The MaraX is more stable since it has a 2 probe (patent pending :) technology coupled with a PID. I still agree with your recommendation, I say it again, awesome bang for your buck.

    Great video! Some very good advice here. Breville, great Aussie brand, very popular in Aus and NZ (where I live). My Sylvia lasted 14 years and could have gone longer. Its a great way to start and learn. The Sylvia produced really amazing milk based drinks (after I figured out how to use it) and was a nice match for my Gaggia MDF grinder. For low quantity, and milky drinks HX machines are spot on. Not sure if you know but a couple of Kiwis ended up buying Rocket from ECM in 2007!

  • @ThunderRunner
    @ThunderRunner 3 роки тому

    The availability and looks of the rocket are really appealing to upgrade from a Silvia. Have you found the workflow with cooling flushes to be an issue? Any regret not getting a dual boiler like the lelit Elizabeth or pp 300?

    • @itsxris
      @itsxris  3 роки тому

      No regrets and no issues working with cooling flushes. I actually just ordered an E61 Group Thermometer to do some testing with that - so expect a video about that towards the end of the month or early February!

    When battling upgraditis, consider this: if you drink coffee everyday, that will run you around 1000-1750 usd a year at a cafe. So if on the lower end of that range, your coffee station would start saving you money in a year if your set up was like a gaggia classic pro, a 300 dollar grinder, and 200 dollars in accessories (cups, tampers, distributor, etc). Obviously, this leaves out the price of beans and maintenance.
    Also consider your time and drink ware. Milk drinks don’t tend to age well in a thermos if you need to run out the door to work. So you need to have a place at work to wash your container.

    • @itsxris
      @itsxris  3 роки тому +3

      I actually did a whole spreadsheet for myself doing costs and calculating "what ifs" compared to coffee shops haha - in short: It's not saving me money

      @@itsxris haha you sound like the engineer type (as am I). And you know, you are probably right about that. I just put in an amazon order for ~50 dollars worth of cleaning supplies lol. So yeah the costs of this hobby definitely adds up. I just got my gaggia classic pro this past week and I am pretty happy with it so far. I am wondering when I am going to get that itch to upgrade to a rocket or lelit, but until then I still have a lot to master with the classic pro. Keep up the great work with your content!

It has a 2nd sensor in the HX (and not only in the steam boiler like the other PID HX machines) and can be run in « brew temperature priority », which really works. Only issue in my opinion is it’s a very new machine, so long term reliability is unknown.
