Two Imperial Daleks and an Imperial Dalek shuttlecraft appear in the background of one of Character Option's Doctor Who figurine videos along with this Renegade Dalek set.
I do wish they would bring back the Dalek factions - it worked so well coupled with the 1960s racists in Remembrance thematically. It's still my ambition to buy a lifesize Dalek some day.
It would have been amazing if they'd done two sets, one with the Supreme/ Special weapons and one with a Imperial/renegade 'army builder' as this would allow recreation of the junkyard showdown! Still, I love Remembrance, so I'll take this and be hopeful for future sets, as you suggest.
The light grey looks similar to the renegade Dalek seen in The Magician’s Apprentice to me! Not sure if that’s what they maybe based it on as it’s the highest quality reference..? Could be talking bollocks!
I was very happy to see that these were the two they picked for this set, I missed out on the FP set of four back in the day and have regretted that ever since, I managed to get the talking SWD, and the imperial that came with Ace in the B&M set a couple of years back, so these were the ones I needed to complete that lineup. When the first pictures of these two were leaked people were saying they felt the colour was too light, I did ask Al about that, I'm kind of on the fence but he seemed pretty confident that that colour was right, it might be something to do with lighting, I'm really not sure. The only other renegade figure I have is the boxed prototype of the TRU two pack, and that's staying in its box, but I'm not super keen on it's grey either. I think if it had been me I'd have maybe one somewhere between the two, but it is entirely possible that the new one is more accurate than it seems.
Really hope they go back to the older packaging. I miss the old diorama photos. I know the reason they changed it was because of plastic pollution. But I'd love to see a backdrop of Ratcliffe's Builders Merchants or the room with the Dalek Battle Computer
I know I’m late to this but, I think I THINK that the drone renegade’s odd matte grey is more accurate to the Remembrance renegade in magician’s apprentice. The prop used in the two parter is still a darker grey, but it seems like the toy was colour-matched to the fan made borrowed prop rather than the original.
3:15 ye so the reason the slats are a problem is bc they're using the tweaked Imperial slats that are completely wrong bc the Imperial slats are way wider than the renegade ones & therefore the number is also wrong - Renegades should have 6 slats at the front not 4 & it's a shame bc Al Dewar said these share slat tooling with the Imperials so unfortunately CO being CO they're probably not gonna remove the mesh for the Imperials
I'm honestly kind of baffled by a lot of the design choices here. Character have proven themselves to have excellent attention to detail, but sometimes with these rereleases it's like someone’s getting bored and self-sabotaging with unwarranted changes just to shake things up. The shade of gray is indeed too light, and the newly sculpted eyestalk doesn't seem to match any Dalek design that I know of, definitely not the ones from Remembrance. The ones they've been using on the Destiny Daleks or the Necros Daleks would have worked better, strange they went out of their way to make a redundant new sculpt when that budget could be put to much better use in other places.
The new eyes are reused from the Necros Daleks - they're accurate to the ones used for those props. Dunno if they're accurate to Remembrance - definitely not the Supreme.
@@theoutcastboiI don’t think they can be the same sculpt as on the Necros ones, on them the discs look spaced farther apart into more of an oval shape than they do here. What makes this innacurate, apart from that spacing issue, is that the clump is symmetrical as opposed to being tapered towards the front. The thing is, they already have at least a couple different Dalek eye sculpts that do that which they could have used.
@@theoutcastboiThe Renegade props had new eyestalks built for the episodes and didn't use the previous Necros version. The Renegade eyestalks the BBC made were new and used the same mold for the Imperial Daleks. The toy version does seem a bit off and doesn't look accurate.
I think the new grey is more accurate, but it should be a bit darker still. A bit closer to panzergrau (fitting, considering the inspiration for the Daleks).
honestly this B&M renegade dalek looks more like an on-screen destiny dalek and the B&M destiny daleks look more like on-screen renegade daleks to me. Either way, good set and glad to see an improved supreme dalek!
You forgot to mention the new wider ovals come with a thicker lower collar at the ftont which has vastly improved the appearance of these daleks as on the Necros daleks released before, the older narrower bottom front collar on the older releases never looked quite right to me.
I hope that they do the Imperial faction as well, and if they do, they include the Special Weapons Dalek. I missed the two previous times that figure was released.
I hope I can find this for a sane price online, scalpers have been hawking dr. who stuff since most of it is not only UK but B&M exclusive now. 100 USD plus 30 dollar "standard international shipping" is not a natural upmark for these, kinda wish the Amazon deal from a few years ago was still a thing. Missed out on the original release of the supreme back in the day and every set from these history of the daleks packs thats aren't the first 3 have been impossible to find since release at a sane price.
I think the shade of grey on the props is definitely a shade between the two CO releases. Edit: So I'm looking at some reference images of the renegade Supreme, and it looks like the discs are silver on the prop. Don't know why they changed it to white for this figure.
Unfortunately the Renegade Grey is too light. The original props were much darker in tone. The grey is difficult to get accurate because the colour differs depending on the lighting both in studio and on location. In some publicity photos and certain scenes in the episodes they do appear to have a slight blue tint. The previous figure releases tried to replicate that look but it's too blue. The slats are not too bad but I can't see what the complaints are about it. The Matt black colour is perfect, everything from the ball joints down to the fender. The eyestalk does seem a bit too long though. The colours are good and they even painted the iris silver which is accurate. But there's something odd about it. The Toy's R Us Doctor/Dalek pack had a better eyestalk in my opinion. Overall, it's a good representation of a Renegade Dalek but the grey is too light unfortunately. I'll still be getting it to go with my Renegade replica.
Oh no, you weren’t sent it?! Do you expect to review sometime? My 8yo has been checking your page daily for your review! He was disappointed to hear you haven’t got it. We hope you get one soon so you can post another of your excellent and essential reviews!!
I was mainly going to use the set to collect my missing Supreme Daleks, but it seems I might have to look elsewhere for the Resurrection Version. Other than that, this supreme is as lovely as the original.
I think the issue with the slats is it should be consistent with the Necros ones, the Supreme already uses the more traditional sculpt - in a dream world Necros/Renegade/Supreme could've potentially have shared a new slat sculpt with a wider spacing/less slats but that was never really something I thought would happen given tooling costs on a larger part. Between 'classic' and 'imperial' style the former slats remain the closet look visually (ignoring the bolts) so its a bit of a shamed they've given it that mesh texture, it'd be nice if a Fatal Death set could be a future possibility to further get use out of those moulds as there's very little else they can use them for now. The new eyestalks look great I agree, feels like an attempt at a middle ground of the 'oddball' Renegade eye and Supreme (not a clue why the discs are white though!) which is a good compromise though I'm surprised they didn't make the iris wider to give the Supreme its more frantic look (and simply painted smaller for the drone) The neutral grey also looks far better to me colour wise, it just needs the brightness toned down as its far too close on the scale to the Destiny type, I'm glad they've avoided the 'false' blue tint because that's basically just the props under a blue sky on location so a definite improvement on the prior two there for me, the matte black in particular was something that I've always wanted since the original release really bugged me there as its such an easy way to stand apart from your typical grey Dalek and really gives it that unique look.
The issue with the Renegade Dalek slats is that the slats themselves are thicker & the number of them are wrong. This is because they originally used the Imperial Dalek slats & CO have been tweaking that sculpt to make it work for the Renegade Daleks. There should be the same number of slats as there are on the other slat sculpt (just without the rivet detailing). I don’t get how they can make all these exclusive parts for some Daleks (dome lights, eye stalks, mid sections, heads that can come off) but can’t make new slats for the Remembrance ones. What I find irritating though is that trying to make the thicker Imperial Dalek slats work for the Renegade Daleks has also effected the Imperial Dalek sculpts. The Imperial Dalek (& the sculpt for those slats) when that first came out were fine! They were accurate! But it seems, for them to make that still inaccurate (tho better) Renegade Dalek slats back in 2013 (using the Imperial Dalek slats), they might have damaged the accurate Imperial Dalek sculpt in the process as when the Imperial Dalek & Ace pack came out in late 2020, the Imperial Dalek now had mesh detailing (which previous Imperial Dalek figures didn’t have & the TV prop’s certainly didn’t have). So now both Imperial & Renegade Daleks have inaccurate slats. It feels like we’ve gone backwards with the Imperial Daleks in terms of accuracy & the Renegade Daleks have only taken a small step further. I’m hoping that if there will be a future release with the Imperial Dalek figures that perhaps it will have the original accurate slat sculpt & the release in 2020 was just a factory error, but a part of me is thinking otherwise
The reason they couldn't make new slats is simply because it's too expensive - the one time they did it in this B&M line, it was to replace the older, worn out tooling, and that new tooling has been used on the majority of Daleks since. It's simply uneconomical to make new slats for one Dalek. Given the info you've given, perhaps they should simply gone for the usual slats for the Renegade, and just put up with the bolt detail. I imagine they'll correct the Imperial Dalek slats on the next release of them though, since altering a tool is seemingly more cost effective than making an entirely new tool - additionally, it can be used on both the Imperial and destroyed Imperial Dalek figures, so they'd get two figures out of it. I'd also hope they could do a new Imperial front section to add the thicker band and gunbox detailing to the Imperial Daleks, bringing them more into alignment with the new Necros and Renegade Daleks, but I don't know if the costs for doing that for a single set would work out - we'll have to wait and see.
The new eyestalk on these kimda would work on the imperials , its got that spacing between the eyeball and discs unlike the coal hill set imperial dalek Cant wait for the new series daleks review, thats going to be interesting
I wish they'd stuck to chronology and released the Resurrection set. I don't see any issue with the shoulder slats, as the props themselves did have fewer slats, more widely spaced out. The addition of the mesh detail is the most welcome feature here and by the look of them on the video, the matt finish is nice - however, I agree, the grey is too light. I don't see much difference of any significance in the Supreme. The glaring error here (as with the Necros figures actually) was they're just being lazy and using the existing sculpts, whereas both the Renegade and Necros Dalek props, as we know were new designs, with a more narrow skirt - this was particularly obvious in Remembrance.
Did I just have a very off Supreme Dalek the first time around? Its eyestalk was almost comically small. That’s the biggest thing I just wanted to see improved, I had no idea there were original sets where that wasn’t even a problem!
Well, looking at your grey Dalek on my MacBook screen, it looks pretty bloody spot-on from the TV series, as last seen on DVD - really hoping that we get that Season 25 BluRay set soon..!! 😉 So yeah, it's a good looking replica; I suppose the reason it looks "off" is because the basic shape is wrong; The top of the shoulders, on the TV prop, is almost the same diameter as the lowest neck-ring, and of course, the skirt section is the wrong profile.... But we all know that anyway.. 😉 Not all of the Daleks had the black slats or lower shoulder ring in black, in the show, so maybe that's why some feel it looks off, as well...... I think an overall grey with silver/white mesh was more common - it's been a couple of years since I last watched it! But it is one of my ALL TIME favourite Dalek styles, after the original gorgeous silver/blue (or light grey, slightly darker grey (black & white telly!!) ) Daleks that I grew up with back in the 1960s! smile 😊 If I see this set in my local B&M, I WILL be grabbing it; no question!! "Remembrance" was an awesome story, with some amazing effects for its time (apart from the VERY wobbly Dalek props!! 😜 ), and I hold it dear to my old heart..!! 😊 After Jon Pertwee, Sylvester McCoy is still MY Doctor!! 👍

Its a really nice set, dispite the colour of the renegade Dalek needing a little more blue. It looks like the New Series Renengade from Magician's Apprentice wich really annoys me, but overall really good. I think im going to paint my Supreme's eye and rims of lights with some Silver, then I'll be good to go 👌

I think the renegade shoulder section looks odd because the mesh is so shiny gloss and really stands out on the otherwise matt figure.
The shiny silver mesh is also inaccurate: the mesh on the renegade Daleks was matte white.
