    Wow Rob, things sure have changed in home recording.
    I remember when I had a SM58 sitting in a glass bottle under my snare and a SM61 hanging from a cup hook screwed into the ceiling as an overhead. Always struggling to get the right sound in an attic apartment. Egg cartons stapled to the walls to reduce bounce. Feather blankets draped around my kit as a "drum booth". Too funny.
    We definitely pushed that MAudio Delta 66 to its limits with Sound Tools and an Behrigher 12 channel board to premix.
    Those were the days.
    Now... good recording equipment is alot cheaper and much more flexible.

      I’m sure Rob will come up with his own answer, but I use Blackmagic Design Video Assist. It’s got two mini-XLR inputs to feed stereo sound from a mixing console

    Great video. I've been doing this for a while rather than gigging live and have had quite a bit of success. You mentioned you send the stems and your client sends money so I was wondering how you are determining what to charge. I'm lucky to have one really established client in Hollywood that got me started doing this but now I want to add to my clientele and am not sure what I should be charging. I was wondering if you know how much other people are charging and is there a going rate? Any suggestions?

    Quick question: what mic do you use did for voice when sitting behind the kit in your videos? Do you mute it when you start playing, or does it just not pick up the drums too badly?

    Thank You Dr. Beatdown Brown! That is a great set-up you have. I noticed, and only an observation that you still use the moon gels on a couple of your Toms? Is this only to get the feedback you want when you are recording, or is it a tuning issue you want so that you can get the “DO” on that drum instead of it ringing? Just curious. Overall, great to see your set-up and thanks for sharing. JT

      I’ve got single ply UV1 heads on these tubs. It’s my favourite head but they sing out a bit too much on recordings. The Gels just help shorten it up a bit.

    "Hey Fellow", once I get some of my recording gear up and running, I'll be interest in some beats, Last month you had some files, Beatdown Evans Drums1, I download it and finally I gave it a try, I install it in Wave lab 10, and Man, It's sound so brilliantly, And Guy, I use just 1 plug-in at time, maybe up to 5 and it made my plug in stand out,, Now I have sometime just drop some audio file in that has be process and being new at, Mastering, it may take some time just to find my right sound, Hey thought I let know, big up, Peace!!

      American Musical Supply does a no credit financing with various payment options. I helped a friend find a way to get his studio up and going, and they allowed him to get what he needed then and pay for it monthly.

    Hey Rob, a great way to get more oompf out of your overheads is to get them the same distance from your snaredrum instead of just putting at the same height like you have now. It puts your snare right in the middle of your stereo field and might be helpful in getting the phase relationship of your snare in line with your overheads. Just a tip, no criticism. Your recording sounds great as is but maybe it'll make it even better.

      @RobBeatdownBrown  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the tip. I’ve heard that from a few different engineers. I was just never that picky about how my kit sounds in the videos. But I’ll probably try that when my new mics show up ✅

    Rob, do you send out the raw tracks unmixed? Can you do a video on Logic, how you dial in your EQ and plug ins?

    • @RobBeatdownBrown
      @RobBeatdownBrown  4 роки тому +1

      The cool thing about online sessions is that your clients 99.95% of the time just want the performance. They’ll take care of all the mixing, eq’ing and editing once they pull the tracks into their session. I could do a video on how I do things, but I ain’t even close to being an engineer. I just click n’drag on stuff until I like what I hear. So I’d probably get a lot of dudes in the comments tellin’ me what I’m doing wrong. lol

    • @DonLindbergh

      @@RobBeatdownBrown Thanks! That's awesome as I just happen to have one of those lying around. I guess I should have asked more. I'm trying to connect the rest of the dots in your setup, for instance exactly how the discrete channels go from the Zoom to storage to be manipulated by Logic. So, in the case of the Mac Mini which doesn't have the capacity for a sound card, are you using some external device to take the signal from the Zoom and get it to the mini or is the Zoom + Mac Mini enough to accomplish this? Are you storing the data directly on the mini or do you any use external drives?
