It’s kinda sad because the Russian was basically the only guy who was ever nice to the Joker. He was willing to hear him out, never attempts to betray him, and seems genuinely excited to hear what the Joker wants to use his money for. Not exactly. Batman explained it. He choses goones that he can easily manipulate. As much as he likes to present himself as an agent of chaos, he's more like a performer. He makes plans. Lots of them. They are more like plays scripts. He prepares the stage, chose the right gears, hires the right crew to help him, who he mades also part of the audience...That's a wise choice sometimes. Joker is a cool character with cool quotes like this but there's no depth in his character unlike Joaquin's who had much more complex character. I think people are just afraid to criticize or mention any flaw about Ledger's Joker just because you know......
@@desipop3654 This joker is much more complex than Arthur Fleck. He is a nihilist who wants to teach "society" a lesson that results in anarchy and chaos. The 2019 Joker is an interesting character for sure, but not at all a good "Joker" (He's the joker for about 3 minutes in the movie). Arthur Flecks characterization is clear but still very profound, does however not compare to the 2008 Joker, that still to this day is the most in-depth interpretation of the comic book villain. Aaron is definitely underrated, Heath obviously shadows everybody with his performance. It helps that we don't really have any other live action two face actors. But not just being the villain, but portraying the true tragedy of Harvey Dent: a man on the right side of the law who wanted to save Gotham and was doing it. Gotham needed Batman but he could never be what Dent was, Batman will always be a vigilante, something scary, urban legend esque which helped get the ball rolling, but the city needed a white knight as well as a dark knight. But seeing him be broken and reduced like he was is the true horror of it. And the choice to have the joker be the one to break him was far more brilliant than the origin story of the mob doing it IMO. Thematically it makes more sense and makes the whole story even more tragic.

The Joker from TDK is seemingly a master psychologist. He knew he couldn't get the mob to trust him after having stolen some of their money if they didn't think he had rational motivations. And to them, money is the only rational motivation. So he mirrored their own motivations to appeal to them. They were so blinded by their own motivations that they couldn't see what Joker actually was. Joker also knew that Batman was the main concern, so he could voice that knowing they didn't think that. So that when they finally realized Batman was the main concern, not the police, they would trust his judgement moreso than they would have otherwise.

And the only reason they can get away with it is because you’re deluded into thinking you’re some kind of special hero who is in the know about some kind of secret conspiracy that conveniently no one else but your own selected allies know about. This movie had two of the best Batman villain portrayals ever. Aaron Eckhart was a phenomenal two face.
The bar scene was perfection.
Sucks he died at the end
Say it!
Even if he's overshadowed by the Joker, in isolation he is phenomenal.
I love this line from Gordon:
"I want Lau alive. The Joker, either way."
Great line indeed, I personally think he was referring to the fact that the Joker is so unpredictable and quite literally impossible to catch alive, so it didn't matter much if he was caught alive or dead...
Commissioner Gordon is not only underrated he is much better character than Christian Bale's bland Bruce Wayne
@@iliriangazidede They caught him alive at the end sport. Impossible? No. He says either way because the Joker holds no value being brought in alive. Lau has information. The joker has nothing, and even if he did he wouldn't talk. So if they need to kill him, oh well, it doesn't matter to their investigation.
100% sure Batman would object to killing Joker if he heard Gordon say that.
@@connorbrennan4233 No, he wouldn't. Gordon didn't say to kill the Joker. He just didn't absolutely NEED him alive. Are you stupid? Batman understands cops sometimes need to kill criminals. Youre talking about the guy who left Ras to die and killed Harvey Dent himself. Don't be an idiot
4:02-4:32, the pure silence from everyone being crippled by fear as joker threatens Reese is just mind-blowing, after blowing up 3 buildings and going to war with law enforcement, everyone in gotham is WELL aware that joker is NOT to be trifled with.

Also the Joker: "It's not about money. It's about sending a message."
He truly is the Clowned Prince of Chaos.
I think he actually lied about him wanting to kill Batman for money .
Tamás Pákey He didn’t do it for financial gain, he meant it as a gain of power - it doesn’t come free. He took the power away from the mobsters and gave it to himself throughout the movie. He doesn’t seek monetary value, but rather merit and social power above all.
You really think money is all you gain from doing something? Yikes, there's more important things that you can gain from doing things well...

@@krtlkid This has always been a question of morality but in the end people will choose to save as many lives as they can even thought that one life doesn't even deserve death. The logic here would be so the more deaths that happens, the more impact it will give to the public as to what should be done by the authority. Personally I think it is sick either way.
@@GeorgiaAndrea the counterargument (to that utilitarian position) is that over the longer haul, more people will flourish in a culture where absolute principle is really strong i.e. someone who has such strong principles that they won't kill one even to save a hundred (i.e. they treat every living being as a sacred end in itself, and won't resort to "means to an end" thinking), you perpetuate that level of principledness throughout a culture over a long enough span of time and you end up with a paradisiacal land of moral saints with a murder rate of 0. Also, there's the whole being unable to know the consequences of actions, so we might as well just live by principles. For instance, if that one person you sacrificed had the cure to cancer, you've actually sacrificed 100s of millions to save 100.

TFW you realize that Joker did a better job in cracking mafia within few weeks than the police, Gordon and Batman can do in several years.
The "put them behind bars" mindset makes all the difference
Its because the joker understood criminals better than anyone else. He took what they loved most (money) and burned it right in front of there eyes. Probably giving them some sort of mental breakdown with it. Also becuae he's smart. The moment the mob realized what the joker could accomplish they all followed him. This man is a geniusm
First, the Joker had no problems killing the people who need to die. Second, the Joker worked from within the mafia, mobilizing(and thereby exposing) all the important sleeper agents they have planted in the government/police force. He basically blew all the resource and manpower the mob had in those few weeks to kill a few replaceable government clerks and worthless civilians, of course the mob is fucked after that.
