    So this video is picking up traction after a year or two of being published, and it's been brought to my attention in the last few days that at some point in the video I touch dirty bedding and then touch my hair and face. I do my best to avoid this, especially now I keep gloves in my pet room for this reason, cuz sometimes I'm just not thinking and I'm not grossed out by those things so my brain doesn't go into unsanitary mode if that makes sense. But I don't recommend doing this! 😂 I just wasn't thinking. Always keep washing your hands when doing deep cleans if you aren't wearing gloves 😁

    Hey there! I also have the critter nation with a cement mixing tub on the bottom. I find if you take the bottom wire flooring out you can slide that tub in it’s place and it gives the cage even more space and that extra digging room.

    For my rats I typically trim their nails with baby nail clippers you do have to be quite careful about not cutting them because they tend to be wiggly. Also for bathing I buy sensitive skin doggy wipes and weekly wipe them down, it is a lot less stressful and sometimes they even enjoy it. Also typically you don’t want wire shelves or ramps but it’s pretty rare it will cause issues. You are doing a great job!

    Hi, it sounds like you have allergies
    And you said you can’t breath out of your nose
    If you buy an air purifier and sleep with it in your room
    It will help with allergies with rats poop and pee as it is very harmful to humans
    Air purifiers help with asthma and allergies and is recommended to rat owners

    • @amethystscorner
      @amethystscorner  2 роки тому

      This is a really good idea! I used to have one and I somehow lost it ? Haha, I don't know how that's even possible, but yeah I definitely should invest in one. I have really horrible allergies in general, but they've definitely been enhanced since getting rats. Thank you for the reminder!

    Lost my baby on 28th of last month, still not over with the world crashing down for me. Just scrolling through rat videos to feel better, your video made my day. On that note you striked a very important string that your rat got pneumonia, can I know how do they get pneumonia? What are the symptoms that we should notice for. Mine one died because of pneumonia but showed no symptoms only got to know about it 24hours before while she was struggling to breathe.
    Sending your babies love ❤❤

    • @amethystscorner
      @amethystscorner  22 дні тому

      They can get pneumonia from a variety of things. Usually it's from the air not being clean enough around them. Symptoms are a lot of sneezing and extra porphyrin build up around the eyes. Sometimes wheezing as well. I'm so very sorry for your loss. That sounds absolutely devastating. The best way I've learned to prevent pneumonia is to make sure their cages are clean and they aren't located right next to vents to prevent drafts. Sending your mischief love💜

    • @amethystscorner

      Not really haha😅. I've not heard or found anything when doing research about overstimulation in rats. If you have information that maybe I don't I'd love to hear it! But my cage is actually quite simple compared to some other ones. They also don't tend to play with their toys. Since making this video I've realized that they're not much of toy users.

    A way to help with the nails is by putting the lava rock in front of the food bowl so they can file there nails. What I do is put the food bowl in a corner so they have to step on the rock

    • @amethystscorner

  • @Arcticwolf18

    Hey I would recommend not going to that breeder again, they sound like they have a lot of issues with their rats. If any breeder gives you rats with a respiratory infection it means that they aren't being cared for too well. Also how old are the rats during this video? Rats stop growing when their 7 months old, so if their younger then 7 months they are still growing. 😁

    • @amethystscorner
      @amethystscorner  Рік тому +1

      Oh I'm just seeing this comment too! Yes they were definitely bred inhumanely. When I went to pick up Boca, it was wild what I was hearing. But I ignored my gut and took Boca anyways. Definitely do not regret that at all, but I know in the future what to avoid. I ended up doing a lot more research on my next breeder, and I even found out that my new breeder blocked my old one because of her practices and she didn't want to sell her breeder rats 🤯

    • @Arcticwolf18
      @Arcticwolf18 Рік тому

      O wow crazy. I wonder if their is anything you can do to stop the bad breeder. I feel terrible for the rats living in that person's care and feel like something needs to be done. Let me know if you think of anything. 👍

    hey, I know its an old video but how much did you spend on vet bills? getting ratties soon and Im wondering how much I should save up for the bills

    • @amethystscorner
      @amethystscorner  Рік тому

      A typical visit will run about 50-60 depending on the vet. Medication is usually anywhere from 5-20, but if generic isn't available ive spent 60 on a bottle of meds before. When my girls got tumors, over the course of a few months I spent 600-1000 on cleaning the area and quality of life checks. I really recommend nation wide pet insurance:) it's been great for me. But ofc do whatever is best for your situation ☺️ I hope that helps!!

    I just commented on your older video without realising you'd made an update! So sorry!
    But this is such a good cage!! Only thing I would suggest is getting a custom made critter nation base/ side guards, or you could make your own from plexiglass or correx plastic, which will fit more snug to the cage, and allow you to utilise more space, and have enough space for a wheel too, just make sure its big enough and not a wire wheel.
    The amount of bedding is totally fine by the way! but like i mentioned in my other comment a dig box is a great idea
    Also cant wait to see how a bioactive enclosure works out for you down the line! Good luck!

    I find it easier to clean the cage when my rats are in their basket with some treats. Less of a headache so you can focus on cleaning the cage. Lava ledges are supposed to file the nails as they climb, I personally don’t feel comfortable trimming my rats nails. You can also file them with a nail file if they are very comfortable with you handling them.
