The fact that everyone in our community knows 100% that Cary should have 3 gold medals, and likely an Olympic gold, gives me zero solace. I doubt I could be angrier for the bullshit someone I’ve never met had to go through
@@RelentlessDjangojust goes to show how WEAK usa wrestling was and the United States Olympic Committee. This occurred in our own country on our own turf and those pussies didn’t do shit about it. Disgusting and embarrassing. They will never live this down
Man that’s heartbreaking…I couldn’t even begin to imagine what that feels like to train harder than anyone else and wrestle better than everyone else and to get those matches stolen from you. Thankful he’s learned how to process and live with it and that he’s giving back to the sport that he’s given so much to.
Being a high school wrestler in the late 90s to early 2000s, the name Cary Kolat was huge. My wrestler coaches called a particular front headlock throw a "Kolat". Dude is a beast!
Two things I noticed about Cary in this documentary. He is very honest with himself, and he is an unbelievably resilient man. Two great traits in a man.
How can you not love this guy? It's tough to watch him deal with the results of his career. Anyone who watches this episode is proud of him and his achievements.
As a BJJ guy who has had a grade two ac joint strain, this dude is an absolute warrior to continue wrestling with that injury. Not to mention, at one of the highest possible levels. Insane.
You were the best in the World In my eyes and lots of other wrestlers. And I am from PA and you are still the best HS wrestler to ever do it. I was in the stands for your 4 state titles. Beyond words how bad this man got screwed!
The grit to keep pushing even when the legit international scene was barring you. Cary you are an inspiration for us young wrestlers to keep pushing especially when everything is against you
this breaks my heart and at the same time the anger I feel on his behalf just boils me. Shame on everyone who did this to him. Suffering a loss at that level when you put your soul into it is difficult enough. Having won these high level matches on 4 different occasions and each time having it stolen from you… I can’t imagine there are any words.
Man.....my worst closest losses still bug me 20 years later and that was at the high school level! So thankful to know this dude managed to carry on in life cause lots of athletes at that level would have completely lost it after what happened to him
The wrestling gods are cruel this shit is heartbreaking to watch. How much blood sweat and tears is buried in a toat in the basement or shed. How many legends bury their knowledge and cast it all to the side to move on. Cary is truly a legend…
Cary was my favorite wrestler growing up, so I remember all of this happening. Somehow though, seeing it all at once is like I'm seeing it again for the first time. Absolutely infuriating.
#1 in my book as a wrestler, coach , family man & human being......u gave the wrestling community your heart & soul & forever memories.....thanks CHAMP !
I bet this guy can relate to a lot of those fans in the stands in the ncaa’s because life happens sometimes. You can’t always be the winner and sometimes things just happen.
Cary, you are forever remembered in pa wrestling history. A true inspiration. Im so grateful for all you have achieved. Congratulations to the ncaa championships this year. You have the naval academy in the right direction. Continue being positive. Your heart and integrity makes you a champion forever. Love you man!!!!
For ANYONE who has ever competed internationally; YOU KNOW this happens ALL THE TIME. AND, is the reason Jordan Boroughs is held so highly. He’s wrestling “the system,” “the politics,” and the opponent! What happened(each year) to Cary is politics on the WORLD STAGE!!! Shake hands, don’t participate, but DOMINATE!!! And leave nothing to the officials or judges.
Finding out that boxing was rigged caused me a slew of negative feelings . When the Houston Astros got caught cheating I felt betrayed . The one thing I've always thought to be pure is the Olympics so now I can add anger to the list of disappointing truths in the world of sports.
You're #1 champ, love this guy! Watching and practicing your how-to videos with my 14yr old son has helped strengthen our bond. Hope you're able to find peace with your accomplishments.
Cary is one of my favorite wrestlers as an athlete and amazing technician and coach. Cary was the best in the world and he scared a lot of his competition!
He dealt with a lot and it’s heartbreaking seeing all the things he had to deal with. I also think he has been one of the biggest influences on the younger generation of wrestling’s I remember being in middle school and even in highschool and me and my teammates watching his videos and trying new techniques. What he has done for wrestling especially now a days is very amazing to see. If you pull up a video with a guy in a yellow shirt and black shorts, most high school wrestlers are gonna know. Might not know the name or the story but he’s helped so many wrestlers improve! Thanks to Cary for being willing to share his story
This was an amazing story! Cary is a phenomenal wrestler and to be screwed over that many times, year after year is heart breaking! You can legitimately beat someone and they can protest there loss?? WTF??? I never knew this part of wrestling, on an international stage was going on!?? Cary can definitely hold his head high and know in his heart, he was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time!! 👏👏👏
Damn growing up, I slightly heard on the controversy- but I def never knew it was literally BS protest over legit losing a match. This was very eye opening and great quick watch 👍🏽
But at the end of the day, everything turned out how it was supposed to be and it all made him who he is today. We all know he was a stud and I hope he turns it all into a positive.
This kind of thing never changes. I’ve been driving Motorcoach for 14 years and I see weird things happen based on nationality all the time. People get offered better trips with more money even though you have way more experience and know all the ins and outs of the industry but it just doesn’t matter. Some people just stick behind their own and that’s that.
Even in the Silver medal year he was robbed. The ref could have cautioned the other wrestler right out of the match even without the rule change of taping the shoes. But the ref chose to let the other wrestler cheat.
@@TheRednose3269-EXACTLY ‼️‼️‼️ Stalling is against the rules and ALWAYS has been. The obviously cheating wrestler should’ve been disqualified immediately and multiple points awarded against him for obvious multiple infractions. Absolutely disgusting

Braaah, I never knew Cary got shitted like this. To not wanna yell this from every mountain top speaks to his character and inner peace. You can hear it in him that he knows he’s a World and Olympic Champ. But that competitive streak never leaves and you see that too with medals put away in storage so it’s not a constant reminder. More importantly it speaks to more Russian sports collusion. At what point to you ban them for life? To strip a man’s livelihood like this and IMO these were incredibly clear calls blatantly overturned in the shadiest of ways. I would’ve ripped off my clothes like that one coach and refused to leave the match after the first match fuckery. But 3x? Sheesh. Dude’s a legend and my favorite part was the end where USA Wrestling was asking for Cary to come back and help. I’m sure we could’ve paid off refs and competition committees as well but we’d prefer to whip your ass the right way. #CaryWorld&OlympicChamps. To all my young wrestlers coming up, please understand that life isn’t fair. It never has been and never will be. And as soon as you start thinking that, you’ll get slapped with in the face with something to remind you it’s’ not. Don’t think it’s a personal attack on you, it’s just the way it goes sometimes. And the better you are, the more your comp wants to see you fall. Thank you Flo, this is packed with so many life lessons both inside and outside of wrestling. We love you Cary and you’re always the Champ in my eyes. 🙏🏼

Man,...this goes to show how important it is to do as much as humanly possible to try & keep cheating, lying & falsifying any sports scoring & final outcome!! It takes so much away from the sport & motivations behind it whenever the officials participate in & or just allow dishonesty to take place!!! I was very much an athelete growing up & therefore, have some amount of empathy for Cary & what exactly it is these dishonest officials are taking away/stealing from him & other atheletes whenever such actions take place!! I would even go as far as saying that it was you being cheated in those instances is what makes your story so effective in the sports history & if nothing else, if at all possible only you know this & if you are capable of it but find a way to be happy now for it all playing out the way it did for that reason alone!! I know i enjoyed listening to your story & from one 54 year old ex-athelete to another, way to go champ!!!
When people cheats you like that, what is the point? The point is you're not doing to win anymore. You're just doing it completely for your own self preservation and dignity. It becomes a completely different match for a completely different purpose. The whole game changes
