    Sunnyside High School in Tucson was winning state wrestling championships when I was a wrestler at Glendale High School back in the 1970's. I remember the year they lost to Mesa High School in 1976-77 school year. I believe they had won about 10 consecutive state championships before that year. Tucson Flowing Wells was pretty good as well. I hope RBY's loss in the NCAA final match will inspire and propel him to an olympic gold medal in 2024 in Paris.

    I met Mike Bravo in Salt Lake City at XMAS clash youth duals. After one of the Tucson kids tech falled my son. My kid 8y/o was emotionally defeated. I had to pick him up off the mat. He’s not accustomed to the type of competition he seen that weekend. I had some firm, uplifting words of encouragement for my son condemning his behavior and refocusing him on ‘the next bout.’ Mike seeked me out randomly for a dad/coach pep talk. I had no clue who he was until now but am very appreciative of his counseling and confirmation. Thanks Mike, from Idaho. You deserve the glory

    Crazy to learn who RBY's father is. I remember seeing him at a freestyle tournament at Red Mountain High School right after he moved from Minnesota. The dude dominated every match with ease and everyone was wondering where the hell he came from. He stood out to me because he went from the mat after a match right to talking with random girls, back and forth. After seeing him dominate several freestyle tournaments in the Valley, I was surprised to find that he ended up at Sunnyside. I heard they recruited him, housing him, etc. I see now he had other reasons. I believe his father beat Will Jarman in the '98 state championship match, and RBY beat Will's brother Steven (there are 12 brothers and sisters) in 2018.

    That's crazy! His dad was from the same place that Mark Hall went to high school. Quite the story this young man has. I wasn't a fan after he won big 10, and said it didn't matter. But I can't help but respect him now, seeing how hard he worked to overcome so much, and become a champion. I was wrong. This guy is stand up. His dad was a really good wrestler, a tough kid, and good with the ladies. I remember him well. I bet he's proud of RBV, no doubt.

    He grew up with the perfect ingredients for someone that wanted out of the situation he was in. Luckily for him, he had a talent that he used to escape his chaotic childhood and build the life he wanted. Without the adversity in his early life, do we have the RBY that we all know and love now? Kids that are coddled and babied when there young, don’t have enough fire in there bellies to rise up to level of athleticism that these kids do. It does happen, but it’s very rare. This guy is an amazing athlete and human being.

    If you love these documentary style vids from Flo as much as I do, reply back with who you’d like to see. Maybe we can get more of these if the demand is there. My first pic would be Vito and I’d name it “Bravo Vito”. 🙏🏼

    • @xzjayz7925
      @xzjayz7925 Рік тому

      As much as I love Vito this is quite literally unrealistic. Not “mainstream” enough. He was not EXTREMELY well known until he beat RBY which now he’s getting the traction he deserves, however as of right now I think we’d have to wait until next year. But Vito has my vote as well.

    • @GuyFromSC
      @GuyFromSC Рік тому

      @@xzjayz7925 I, and many others, are going to respectfully disagree with you on this. To say Flo doing a documentary video on Vito is “quite literally unrealistic” because he’s not “mainstream” enough is just ridiculous. This exact same video of RBY was made and released years ago by Flo. And it was smartly re-released during this years NCAA hype. Vito is mainstream and has been in elite wrestling conversations for years. But who thinks Flo vids should only cover “mainstream” wrestlers? Mainstream is way too subjective and Flo is smarter than that. Seen the Real Woods documentary? It’s fabulous but Vito is more accomplished and wildly recognized as a better wrestler than him. It’s not about “mainstream”. It’s about the interesting stories of their youth and educating us on the behind the scenes stories that most casual fans don’t know about with these competitors. And Vito’s story, with his father, is one that needs to be shared to the masses. Guys like you would enjoy learning what this kid has gone through, the pressure of living up to his father’s name, and the expectations that has fueled him from a little kid. It’s incredibly inspiring and that’s what these vids are about brother.
      Beating RBY didn’t make him “extremely well known”. Before dominating Fix and RBY this year, he’s been known as an one of the toughest folkstyle wrestlers and an even better, top-tier elite, freestyle wrestler since he was 10 years old. Perhaps you don’t follow high school wrestling as close as I do and maybe aren’t aware of his early youth success, but he was one of the highest rated recruits coming out of highschool with outstanding international success. Some may even argue he’s had more success than RBY, especially from an international perspective. Still not sure? Let me drop some numbers that’ll educate you on just elite this kid really is…
      After losing to Yianni in the NY State Finals as an 8th grader, he never lost another match in his high school career. NY doesn’t have divisions or classes depending on the size of the school. Like Cali and a couple other states, there’s not 3 or 4 state champs at each weight class. If you’re a state champ in NY, you really are the best in the entire state. He finished up with a 216-1 record (only loss to Yianni) and won 4 consecutive NY State Championships. He was the 2021 FS PanAm Champion, the 2020 FS US National Champion, the 2020 US Olympic Team Trials runner-up to Gilman who won Olympic bronze that year. Before college, he was also a 2x (age group) World silver medalist. In college, dude was a 3x All-American, a 2x EIWA Champ, and National Champ. These are impressive stats brother and I’m sure I’ll get roasted for forgetting some of his other accomplishments here. But for those of that closely follow HS, international, NCAA, and freestyle wrestling, Vito has always been an elite and very well-known throughout the sport.
      To the casual NCAA fan, sure I can definitely see how Vito might’ve appeared to come out of nowhere. But I called the Fix upset earlier in the season right after his only loss to Sam Latona. I was laughed at for this take by the casual wrestling fans. The same ones that wont reply back now. And when he bullied Jessie Mendez and started letting his offense fly, I was roasted again when I told everyone to “not be surprised if Vito shocks the world at NCAAs”. Again, these casual fans refuse to to reply back now.
      Vito has had an illustrious career way before he ran through the 133 bracket like a wet paper towel. I honestly thought he was the only one that could beat RBY, but I’m not going to sit here and say I knew he’d major him and Fix, throw them both on their backs, and get OW for the tournament. While everyone else was already penciling in Fix vs RBY part 3, I wasn’t surprised Vito beat them both. My posts back this up. And look I don’t expect you to believe some guy in the YT comments section. But just search for YT interviews with Kyle Dake, Spencer Lee, Yianni, Nick Suriano, Gilman, Gross, Glory, Cornell coach Mike Gray, and other top tier wrestlers and huge fans of our sport. They’re all in agreement that Vito has always been one of the quickest and most technical wrestlers around. This years NCAA championship and winning Outstanding Wrestler, in that murderers row of a weight class, just solidified him as a real champion in folkstyle wrestling. But now the wrestling world will really see how talented he is bc for the first time in his life, he can focus solely on freestyle. This is his first love and it’s his bread 🍞 & 🧈. He’s got some real killers in Team USA that will push him and make him better so when his time comes, I believe he will win multiple World Championships and he has the talent and drive to win Olympic golds if he can find the right weight class. 🙏🏼

    institutions should make a rule against purposely holding your child back so he can be older and stronger than the actual freshman. if you get held back at any point k-8th you should only be able to compete under what your age is. if you got held back once you should only be eligible to wrestle 3 years in high school. Always knew he was a standup guy. It was something ab rby persona always hit different for whatever reason… now i know.
    AND i love that ed ruth was his favorite model wrestler, because that was my guy too. Buddy came into my hometown and put on one of the best clinics i’ve ever attended.

    Probably worth stating: guys like RBY are why we need wrestling to keep growing. I'm not sure how tall he is, but let's say without wrestling he'd be like 5'6" 150 lbs. How many other sports could a guy like that truly show his athleticism at an elite level? Lots of small, very athletic kids not from the Northeast or Midwest never find wrestling.

      Don't remember Lee Wrestling Rivera or Fix in College. Could have Wrestled the prior.
      But he Wrestled in the B1G, so...nobody Wrestles competition that's anywhere near the B1G duel and Conf tournament schedule.

    Roman Bravo Young's story resonates with me on a personal level, as I too have faced many of the same struggles he did. Despite these obstacles, Roman was able to achieve great success in wrestling and has become a role model for young athletes around the world, especially those who come from similar backgrounds. I believe that Roman's story can inspire young black African American wrestlers around the world who have faced similar challenges in their lives. By sharing his story, we can show these young athletes that they too can overcome adversity and achieve their dreams, no matter where they come from or what obstacles they may face. I would like to express my deep appreciation for the work that has gone into producing this documentary. I hope that it can be a source of inspiration and motivation for young athletes everywhere who are striving to achieve greatness in their lives.

    its crazy haha i saw this kid at the bar, and i didnt think it was him (i was also drunk), but first he was tiny which i was kinda surprised haha. I wanted to talk a pic with him but we were so drunk we were just talking about the upcoming Vera vs Cruz fight as the time (UFC) and how he was training Dom in wrestling and it was just really cool overall.

    This was really, REALLY, well made.
    When I saw this posted, after what Vito did to Rby, I thought this would be focusing on his going for his 3rd title, and basically be really awkward.. so I waited a while to watch it.
    Super glad I gave it a chance.
    I would ask for a Bo nickal video of this type, but I think it’s too late now. Oh well.
