    START OF MY JOURNEY: 6:10
    WASSUP COUSINS! I didn't think this was actually a "thing" but apparently people can "change" hair textures "back and forth" so I thought this was a prime opportunity to come and share with you guys the evolution of my hair due to color, and more importantly understanding what YOUR hair responds well to!
    ANNOUNCEMENT! I am officially BACK to being a MODIFIED Curly Girl! This means while I won't use traditional silicones and sulfates. I will go back to using products that have water soluble cones (aka Paul Mitchell The Conditioner) and I WILL be shampooing my hair regularly.
    YOUR HAIR TEXTURE IS GOING TO BE YOUR HAIR TEXTURE regardless (unless it's damaged, of course) but there are ways to MAXIMIZE the curl pattern you already have.
    I hope this clears things up!
    HAVE FUN WITH YOUR HAIR! And understand that's the beauty of having such VERSATILE hair. YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!

    Guys,
    If you're having audio issues. Please watch it either DIRECTLY from the UA-cam app (not your phone's browser), or directly from your computer. This is basically a "surround sound" audio function that I forgot to turn off of my camera when I was editing.
    I apologize for any inconvenience.

      The people that are saying that you are changing your hair texture are the ones that can't get their hair like yours, because they have a different texture of hair. And I bet they are the ones that use a dime sized amount of hair product. My hair texture is similar to yours, and I know what you mean. I take time to do my hair, and I use a large amount of product on my hair to get the best results.

    Your natural hair journey is YOUR natural hair journey. It's your hair. You can do whatever you want to do with it. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. All you do is tell people what you do to your hair, but you always say that that's what you do to YOUR hair. It's up to them to use those products or do that process. It's your hair Amber. You know your hair best. And the video is appreciated but you don't even have to explain to anyone. It's your life and your hair. You're being yourself and that's all that matters. Be blessed. And good luck on all your other ventures in life. People are always gonna have something to say. But as long as you're happy, at the end of the day that's all that counts. Some people look at youtubers as if they are god and they say what they can do to their hair instead of just doing what they think is best for their hair. Just keep doing you and being who you are! 😁

    thank you FOR saying this.....PPL are so obsessed with loose curl pattern that they project their insecurities onto you and accuse you of trying to change your texture, without taking into account that 1) no one can just change their texture (naturally) and 2) products, technique, diet, stress levels, etc. all play a role in how our hair looks/manifests in that particular time.....and 3)everyone is not obsessed with curl definition or loose curl patterns, sometimes ppl naturally have these textures.....

    I've noticed that my own hair texture when hydrated properly has some tight, larger and cute barrel ringlet curls by my nape. This area also frizzes very easily. The area from my ears and temples are very tight, small corkscrew curls. My crown is similar to this area, but a bit looser and tends to frizz easily. And my bang area is the wavy area with slight curls towards the ends. Nothing is heat damaged because I haven't used any real heat in about 3-4 years. I can't even remember how long it's been.
    I also get asked if I texturize my hair sometimes. It annoys me quite a bit.

    • @Allahaziah1
      @Allahaziah1 7 років тому +1

      Justine Horton My hair at the back of my nape is a '3b' texture. But the rest of my crown is 4b-4c. I was a little confused in the beginning cause there's alot of people saying you only have "one type of texture." But that's not true for me I guess.

      @@Allahaziah1 I'm almost done with transitioning to natural and I notice a small patch of curls that look like 3a 3b. Its stumping me because I'm like is that heat damage? I rarely used heat but the rest is like 3c or 4a and I'm like why is there a random texture difference. It hangs a lot lower. Hopefully it doesnt look crazy in a wash and go. But I notice it looks the same texture from roots to ends.

    I definitely agree about the usage of the products. One time by accident I fell asleep with deep conditioner in my hair, twas a long day and when I woke up hours later and took off the deep conditioning cap my curls looked like 3b 3c curls and my mom was like what did you do your hair isn’t that curly. But basically what I learned from that “mistake” was I needed to deep condition my hair with heat ever since I’ve been doing that my curls have been POPPING. They are springy bouncy and I clearly can see a more defined s-shape pattern all over. I can’t just slap deep conditioner on my hair and leave it on for 30 minutes it will just sit there and I was doing that a whole year of being a natural. I think that people just want to just jump on the next sister and say she is texlaxed or altered her texture because of of all this natural hair curl pattern envy and colorism but just keep doing you

    • @nwankpag
      @nwankpag 7 років тому +1

      Which deep conditioner did you use? And how long do you sit under the dryer? I have really dry hair that doesn't maintain any curl definition so any advice would be great.

    • @beautybinge5921
      @beautybinge5921 7 років тому +2

      When this accident specifically happened I used the Emergencia volume control and softening deep acting treatment with avocado. I usually rotate this with aussie moist, cream of nature intensive treatment (the red line) and ORS hair mayonnaise. They all have this effect on my hair when used with heat. I sit under the dryer for 30 minutes and I do it when my hair is really damp. hope this helps

      DL Jones My hair is in twists right now. B/c omg my hair was shedding so much and breaking ..getting tangled, looking dry 😩 & I realized why. I was not moisturizing my hair enough at alllll. Like after the first day of applying product I would barely remoisturize my hair smh now that I look back I can not believe I let that typa thing slide. As my hair being in twists, since moisture is key, I spritz the twists w/ hot water then apply an oil sealant or Shea Butter to seal the moisture in every night before applying my silk scarf & bonnet. My hair be looking sooo shiny & moisturized. Also before I do the twists I detangle my hair thoroughly like I could have 6 sections right but I even divide those sections b/c honestly the product don't easily get on every strand so I have to really separate even the small sections to make sure the hair is coated w/ product from root to end and that's when my curls be looking moisturized. Just some things I've noticed w/ my hair 🙄 sorry it's long

    Girl.. i need to show this video to multiple people because people are always saying I'm lying about my hair 🙄... when my hair is wet you can see my curls. When its dry i have a straight up afro... when i gel it down and separate my curls you can clearly see i have a 4a/4b curl pattern with what seems like 3c in the very front and back of my hair... products play a huge role in having my curls pop or a frizzy puff ball on my head

    Those people giving you negative comments cannot possibly be natural, because any natural girl knows that our hair can look completely different outta nowhere. My hair can be super defined one week && crazy frizzy the next. It all depends on products you use && your environment. I live in GA && when the humidity is really high i can leave the house looking one way && come back home looking completely different lol. Some people will literally complain about anything, keep doin you boo! 😘

    I feel like some people don’t get that when your hair starts to get longer your curls start to come out more. like in loose curls. after a period of time you may notice that curls are starting to come out because your hair is getting longer like mines. I had 4C hair like 2 years ago now it’s like a 3A type. just be patient.

    ughhh people are foolish. Its so funny to me. my hair is similar to yours and my hair also HATES silicone. I remember in the beginning of my journey my hair was "fluffy" and my curls would frizz up. I was actually dating a guy at the time (a brother mind you) who said he didn't like my natural hair because it wasn't "tamed". (I ditched him right after that convo! by the way) I wasn't locking moisture in my hair at all so it was actually quite dry ! when my hair was wet it has really nice curls but when it was dry it wouldn't retain its shape. why! because I was using the wrong products! now my hair "looks" different because I no longer use products that don't agree with my hair. simple. So Amber I understand. your videos have helped me in my hair journey and I'm greatful. I'm also a product junky! going to the hair store is like winning the lotto to me lol! stay blessed lovey!

I'm still learning what to do with my hair I'm still young and I'm just using what I have and surely my hair is a lot better than what it was. I'm still on the look on how to get my hair like hers 😍.

    Hey Cuz! I know exactly what you're talking about. My hair is the same way. It can look like a completely different texture based on how I take care of it over the weeks or months. It gets super frizzy, tangled, and completely undefined when I have a lot of build up and when clean it lays quite nicely, barely tangles at all, and is super defined. People don't understand that because they aren't as experienced with their hair yet.

  • @kristibillings8277
    @kristibillings8277 7 років тому +1

    I've noticed the same things as you have with my own hair. It changes in response to hydration and product ingredients. People are always asking what i use. I do tell them because i don't want people to think I want to be the only one with cute hair, although i know that what determines if it will work or not is the porosity level and condition of the hair. Sometimes I use something new and people love my hair and other times, they look like what is going on with your hair.

    Girl thanks for this video. Just like you I was a press and curl natural the majority of my life. My hair is totally different from then, to when I had color to, now just straight black wearing it natural pretty much all the time. I don't think people who hadn't been natural for very long understand that your hair goes through many stages which means you alter products and methods according to what your is telling you. Now relaxed hair stays the same no matter what. Some are still in that relaxed mind frame obviously.

    I changed my hair texture too. When I first cut off my relaxed ends my hair was dry. frizzy 4c and had no defined curl pattern. Four years later after a steady routine of regular cleansing, moisture and protein when needed, using mostly natural product, lots of DIY (oh and finger detangling exclusively for the last year and a half) and figuring out what ingredients my hair likes (yes, I said ingredients, not products) my hair has developed a lovely curl pattern that looks very similar to my twist outs. No surprise there, twist outs are my go to style. Some people ask about curl training and I say yes it is possible but it basically long-term dedication to keeping your hair clean, conditioned and moisturized and mostly letting it do what it wants to do, instead of demanding it be laid and slayed all the time.

    I don't even understand. Being natural means your hair is going to look different almost daily. It depends on what you use on it, how you sleep on it, water temperature, what oil you use, if you use leave-in or hair milk, and on, and on, and on ad nauseam. However these differences don't mean a change in hair texture. You hair has always looked the same texture to me, whether it was big and frizzy or smooth and tame. Even if you did do something to change the texture, it's your choice to do so. You generally tell your viewers what your are doing, and even if you didn't, it is up to us to chose whether we want to try something on our own hair.
    It seems the YT viewing community somehow thinks content providers have to be the voice of common sense for their viewers. If a content provider puts coca cola, vicks vapor rub, horse pee, or whatever else in their hair doesn't mean I'm going to do that to mine just because I happen to like the most of what that person does. No, instead I'm going to look at that particular video of theirs and just smh because they had a moment of the crazy. rofl

    It is very sad that you said it doesn't bother you, but you still feel the need to respond or explain anything to negative people. I just started watching your channel; I like it and still like what you have to offer. Whoever made rude, foolish, unkind, or just plain ignorant comments will always make those comments; it has nothing to do with you, it is all them. People will look at up loads just to make a negative comment. Negativity resides with them, it’s in them and it eats at them so they try to eat at someone else to relieve their pain and discomfort about the miserable person they have become. But the same way they choose to let negativity controls their lives Don't let it control your life via their comments. I have meet a lot of different women with a lot of different hair textures when I first began my natural hair journey I read the science of black hair I found this book to be very helpful that was the first time I learned about hair porosity before a lot of UA-camrs were even talking about it I learned that my hair porosity was low and that some heat was actually good for my hair because it helped the moisture to penetrate my strands I also learned that for most curly haired women before you hair grows in length it usually gets thicker and more full before your curls can elongate I also learned that the longer your hair becomes the looser your curls become so in general I have been natural since 2012 and my texture has even changed dramatically, when I first became natural there was no way I could put my hair in twists or even part it in four parts I always had to comb it out to detangle it and put a minimum of 6 twists in my hair at a time now I can finger detangle on a nightly basis and put my hair in only two twists at night while sleeping also from watching Nappy Fu which is another youtuber I learned the importance of twisting up your hair at night instead of just putting it up in a pineapple and satin scarf lastly when I invested in a quality satin bonnet slaps my hair held a lot more moisture and the texture changed because my hair was more moisturized

    All the ignorant comments kill me. I hate having to explain to unlearned individuals about this process. First of all, it is YOUR HAIR growing out of YOUR SCALP. Only YOU know what is going on with YOUR HAIR. If a person truly is on this journey and knows the definition of a JOURNEY, they understand what is actually happening. Products change, situations change, this whole thing is about CHANGE! It has been almost 9 yrs for me, so, cousin, I get It! I'm so glad I am one of YOUR subbies 😊 I know we all appreciate you.

    Hi cousin,
    I just wanted to say I love your Channel, your realness and your honesty. Do what comes natural to you and thank you for sharing from your heart.😊
    In regards to hair with woman and men of color, it is always in a state of change (like the wind). Even if we did not use any products in our hair, the changes happen naturally due to various factors with our health, our eating and drinking habits, a lack of or too much of certain vitamins and/or minerals for our body and scalp, the environment, genetic and hereditary traits, age, etc. (and the list goes on).
    No matter what hair style, hair texture or hair color we rock . . .
    God made us all beautiful!!!
    Embrace your tresses, love the journey stay positive and inspired!
    Abundant Blessings to all...Peace.

    People always have something to say even when they only have 10% of the info. I swear most people don't even watch your videos in full or listen to what you are saying in your video. You have fine hair, I have thick to medium hair but we are both low porosity (hair curl pattern is stupid) and I learned a lot from you! I love your videos and I hope the haters go work on themselves.

    So cute how you started the video. I am trying so hard to try and change my texture without going back to chemicals.

    Let's make love and not war. Let's bring each other up and stop breaking down. There are already too many ppl doing trying to break us down as black women. Keep up the good work Mary. Your hair is beautiful!
