Many many years ago when I was in my early 20's I was very fortunate to be in the position to buy a 1982 928s and then a 1984 928s. These were my 2 absolute favorite real cars. Fantastic engineering and styling that to my eyes still looks modern.
high posh clientele has shed horrendous stacks of cash to reissue this 928 in this decade , the public doesn't know this car was rebuilt in europe as the lotus sprit as well was reissued
Beautiful paint job Rob. She really sparkles! For some reason, when I see the tail lights painted in I quickly notice what a beautiful car design it is. Kudus to Porsche!
My dad's paint selection method comes through again! That looks great. Back in high school, I used to tag along sometimes when a slightly older guy I knew went car shopping. (We'll call him John, on account of that was his name.) He had... let's call it _aspirational_ taste in cars and no money to speak of, so car shopping with him was always an adventure; and he had to do it a lot, because most of the cars he bought were terminally ill when he found them. Seriously, he was like a hospice nurse for dying sports cars. Anyway, one day we ran across an old 928 that someone had clearly appreciated very much for a long time. It was too beat for even John to pay money for it, alas, but even so, it was a thrill just to see one in person. This was in northern Maine in the late '80s, so that was the kind of car you only saw on TV. How it came to be there, no man can say.
Hey Rob, any chance you could share a link in one of your vids where you get the screws from? I don't seem to get the right combination of screw/drill bit... Thanks pal
Gotta admit I'm a Porsce fan, especially the 911 models. But who doesn't love the 1979 926 "Risky Business" model. I'm also a fan of green (favorite color), so this on was a treat to watch transform. Great custom color of all the leftover colors.
It was my first Matchbox car which I get it from my father as a birthday present (grey, blue and dark blue colours). It was in 1985. I was 5yrs old kid :D
Nice finish, great wheels. Can't aford to buy a big range of colours myself so paint with what I have but try to keep it appropriate to the year and make of car. Bought an Austin mini when a kid it looked a bit rough around the edges so painted it with a mix of odds and ends from my dad's garage. It looked a bit like the colour you made for the porch. ( 40 yrs ago ) thanks again for sharing
Chouun Shiryu the original car had relatively small diameter wheels which exaggerated the impression of height in the car. Later models wore much bigger rims and some had lower suspension.
This came out great right out of the movie with Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay Risky Business. The color is spot on for 1979, and the updates to the features and the wheels only enhance it further. Only suggestion for a correction, the headlights on the Porsche 928 are exposed and could have been painted white/silver as well. Once again, you do amazing work. Can't to see the next one!
Hi Rob, I, too, wondered about your finishes. They seem to have a lot of orange peel. With all the care you use in preparation I figured it was your lighting or camera picking up that illusion. Thanks for clarifying this. As per usual, and I am being perfectly honest, this restoration came out fabulously. Thanks for being so cool. 👍👍😊
Great job Rob! The green dried a lot nicer than I thought it would when you were spraying it, the wheels really suit the car but as a few people have said the car kind of needs to sit lower.
Stunning job mate! ...superb paintjob and detailing👍 I always wanted a 928 after watching Risky Business, it's a beautiful looking car and is up there with the Lamborghini Miura in coolness
Another great one. We have the same light box (9” cube) I find you need to set a decent white balance to get the colours accurate. For photos on my iPhone I use Camera + app.
You can't grumble with Aldi and lidl's tools, cheap prices and good quality. I had a rotary tool for 5 years before the internals shredded. Had my money's worth out of it 10 times over.
@@andrewdrabble8939 Did you exchange it for another? If so how did that go? I had the same with an angle grinder from The Range, but they exchanged it and the 2nd one is still going strong a year later
@@DJShadow1966 No I didn't mate. By the time I used it, they'd run out and it only cost me £1.50 so didn't really lose anything. It meant buying a new one though from Maplins (when they were in business) for a few more pennies (cost me £10). Have now got a proper soldering station
Post WWII, late 40's thru early 50's almost all the cars in both Europe and the states were variants of Military colors. Blues, Greens and Reds with many variants thanks to adding White or Black. So even the car companies used to abore waste. Keep up your good ways, sir - and that goes for the rest of you lot that might be reading this - mix it don't nix it. Anyway, as I was saying, I do like your methods - and your technique as well. You turn out quality jobs. Thank you for sharing...
Ferry Porsche’s favorite color was Amazon green, and the color you mixed is close. Good job. The 928 is my favorite Porsche. I have a 1/80 scale diecast version from PlayArt and a 1/24 scale plastic Revell kit. The first 928 I ever saw was when I worked at my uncle’s Porsche dealership. It was Porsche cocoa brown with the Pasha upholstery which is a trippy checker pattern. Definitely Porsche from the 70s. Glad you mentioned your light box and your paint jobs. It always looked like orange peel, but this explains it.
Love the color. Not a fan of the wheels on that car, but it looks good so can't complain! I hope everyone understands that when you zoom into these tiny cars, all kinds of things that look like flaws show up....even from factory cars. When you look at it in life, it's great.
@@MatchboxGarage I'm way down south mate, bottom left of the country and not a racing man, not horses anyway. My MX5 will have to wait for its paint job. Have a good un and good luck.
Very good choice for a spruce up and such. Obviously new wheels are no trouble. No drilling needed to get the windshields out. I liked that. The foot long hotdog jar is well tempered by now, right? I’ve seen other guys shatter glass using the caustic soda... good to see that doesn’t happen to you. This car came out looking great... and very Nice color, as well. Amazing how improved a car becomes once wheels are put on it! Ha ha😜 Cheers👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
New to your channel. Really enjoyed the 928 rebuild. I owned an '86 928s for 23 years. Amazing vehicle, lots of fun. Just was wondering why you didn't mask out the headlights? Thanks.
My first thought was "Oh god, that colour sounds awful" but actually, it's a mushy pea green and goes brilliantly with both the interior and glazing. Lovely effort. I have the original gold/tan plus two of the blue. I started off with the blue when bought new in the 80s and tried persuading a pal of mine to swap me his tan/gold, but he wanted it back. Took me decades to track one down. I would have wanted to find an original set of Superfast wheels for this and apply that original tan/gold paint. I would be tempted to do a Porsche 911 in that tan gold in fact.
Question. Nothing to do with this car but a matchbox for sure. Can you tell me whats the color of the hubs on matchbox lesney #55 green station wagon. They have black tires but chrome hubs. Whats the color underneath the chrome? Any ideas? Thanks.
Nice work again 👍 Just a notice... You detailed front fog lights, parking lights and blinkers. Shouldn't the driving lights on the bonnet be also in white (or silver) in 928 😉
Yeah it takes time to build up a decent paint collection. I'd say my collection took about 35 years to come together and I still regularly buy paints I don't have yet.
Nice piece. I own the same casting and i just dig the open doors and design I had put match box wheels cuz they had no slack inbetween like the Real riders do The windshield is badly scratched and i don't have the necessities to turn it into what i'd like Nice custom overall 🖒
Pretty neat color. This seems like some kind of factory color that Porsche would've sold their cars back then. That said, since it's summer, maybe think of taking pictures outside in the sun? I think that would be neat to see your creations outside in "real" light, rather than in LED light.

Came out terrific! The paint looks like metallic sage green.
The paint job is exellent
Love to hearing the other words used for the same things in other countries, i think it's awesome, so keep on being you!
Beautiful Porsche. That green color would look really great on a 57 Ford. Make it two-tone with the black metallic. That would be gorgeous.
Oh, yeah, that'd be nice. Or a first-generation Corvette. That color with a black cove and seats.
The 928 is one of my most favorite cars and you've done a great job of bringing it back to life ! 🍻

That color is close to my 67 Mustang convertible, my first car. It was called lime gold with an ivy gold interior. I still have it 32 years later!
I had a mustang coupe in the green color back in 1974. It was a 3-speed with a 327 engine. My husband wrecked it.
