it's hard for me to listen to this right now without getting moist eyes -- even before this sad day, this was always one of my favorite David Bowie songs. i don't feel the least bit unmanly admitting this, either. RIP.
Jak bardzo bliska jest mojemu sercu ta muzyka! W tym tragicznym dniu szczególnie. Muzyka ze Śląska zainspirowała stworzenie Warszawy... David dziękuję Ci za to.
How sad my capital has to be in seventies. David really felt it even in one hour legendary trip out of train, who had stopped during the track to the west. This piece of music is a great gift from the Master to Poland, country when he was only twice, both times in change before further road.
It is so sad, a true gentlemen, a style icon like David Bowie passed away, and left us much too soon. His legacy is eternal, we have all these fantastic albums... LOW is my absolute favorite, and this extremely moody Warszawa (Warschau!) moves me... sometimes I cannot stop cryin'... so many m**thefuckers in the world, I mean those terrorists... and a nice guy like David had to leave us so early! Why for godsake, why, tell me!
The similarities to Helokanie, the Polish folk song, are fascinating. And the way he tries to sing in a language similar to Polish. I wish David Bowie had stayed in Warsaw a little bit longer. Funny to think what other pieces of music he might have created then. RIP David Bowie.
This song changed my life. It was the first music I took a path into besides classical, romantic, baroque, or the old country songs some were based on. It was the deepest experience I'd had with music, though I did feel something similar with Sibelius. This song led to who I am very directly, even my concept of love, and I'll bet there are many people that occurred with.
To think that little over a year before this, he almost died from overdosing...several times... that amazes me, the way he pulled his life together. And this song! There are no words for it. It captures a distant time and place, a memory I don't know, yet I can see it whenever I listen to this song...it just blows me away.
saw him on this same tour in Christchurch, New Zealand, me and a whole lot of first year art school classmates - we among 10,000 people managed to push ourselves near to the front - remember this being performed well - the concert was a blast
How much closeup is to my heart the music! In this tragic day in particular. Music from Silesia inspired the creation of Warsaw ... David thank you for it.
I owe David Bowie a debt of gratitude for providing the first music I would go into deep trance and astral project while listening to. This still stirs a memory of somewhere else whenever I hear it... Atlantis perhaps ???
Always heartbreaking, showstopping, but on the other hand: David Sylvian and Japan used the right person to get influenced by! Japan fan forever but David's demise brought me to tears, anyway. Such a legend which he will always be!
Saw that show in Montreal, Canada. To this day it is by far the best show I saw. Obviously the sound of this video is LoQ, probably a feed from the FOH console. Thanks for posting this!!!
Inspiration polish tradition folk song with mountain Beskid Żywiecki: "Helo, Helo Helenko, jakze Ci sie pasie?" Helenka, Helena, Helen - name. Helo, halo, Echo in mountains
great album! jump starts you off on an incredible high, and then leaves you a bit... LOW. absolute perfection for a rainy day alone. such a simple song, this one. instant transformation. I have no idea where I am when it plays, but it's a recognized place. very familiar. I'm not sure if I want to stay or leave. the time for weeping is over, right? musn't cry. AND WHAT A GREAT SHOW THIS MUST HAVE BEEN. it's time to move on to the next station. don't be late!
Its just occurred to me that David Bowie was always unique in his concepts and leading edge in everything (correct me if Im wrong) for his whole career. Who else would have come up with the music of this Low album. Who else wouldve played Baal the Poet or the Man who Fell to Earth and the exotic character he portrayed in David Lynch films The theme song he did with Pat Methany "This is not america" for Falcon & the Snowman was for me beautiful priceless and I havent even explored the half of his stuff He always had remarkable marvellous work to show But sadly the light that shines twice as bright lasts half as long - I mean not as long as most of us would have wanted anyway
David should come to Warszawa nowadays, after all these years... the song would probably have none of these unnerving and strangely pessimistic overtones. Our Polish capital and Poland in general has immensely changed ever since Bowie's last stay here in 1976. Sir David, feel welcome to come to Poland. I recommend that You also should definitely see my home town of Lodz. Instead of spending Your leisure on the Bahama beaches, Your stay in Poland will inspire You to write new stuff, I'm certain.
what a dandy tune. This song really captures a sad mood of ww2, though i'm not really sure if it's about ww2 warsaw. Polish people are great and I love them. From Newfoundland.
@highway61grant well put ! thats what makes bowie, bowie !.. lets hope he has some inspiration left following his heart attack to give us one more creative burst before he leaves this world.
This music is not from tatra mountains but from Beskidy.David was Warsaw in 1977 I think and bought LP from Slask leading by Hadyna and used this music which seems strange for him
good heavens! I've seen this vid a few times before but had never focused my attention on the 2nd keyboard player - creepy because he looks like gary numan? you doubt me? picture him miming car driving....
@Pendeho25 Well it was indeed inspired by desolate of 70's Warsaw. It was still quite ruined after war, it lost its diversity and wealth. Communist didn't help much: repression, shortages and overwhelming sadness was widespread. You can still see some of that, I call it scars of the past. Its full of them. It's the biggest difference from for example Prague.
@RiotNrrrdUTube Yeah, that made things worse. That tour became better and better after each gig (based on what I read). A columnist saw the S.D. and the last U.S. gig. No comparison. The '75 Station to Station, in San Diego was reported to be a complete fiasco. No worries. S.D. was just a rehearsal to them.
But this, sorry to say, not composition of Bowie nor Brian Eno (as it is stated on the record envelope). This is Polish folk song, which you may - much better performed - find when you input "Helokanie" in UA-cam. Enjoy!
+Mart wall I saw Gary Numan in 1980/1981 (Pleasure Principle) but Tubeway Army was earlier than that. It could very well be Numan on keyboards timewise.
No "heathen" could create Wondrous Music like this !!! David, you are God's wondrous creation !! Jesus LOVES You !!! (Eno too!), THIS Music is SO HEAVENLY-ENO-BOWIE-ESQUE !!! In theTOP 3 MELODIES OF ALL TIME !!!
I saw this tour. Bowie began the tour in San Diego, CA, U.S.A. Ended the desire to 'have to go to a concert'. Was a disjointed performance. Was supposed to make up for the 'StationtoStaion' disaster tour. Yes this was the opening song. Colored lights everywhere. Closer was 'Rebel Rebel'. False advertising for this concert. Fewer songs, less time than advertised.
@widthofacircle The Poles survived an awful lot and are richer for it. Please see my tribute video: SPACER PO WARSZAWIE (THEY SURVIVED THEIR TYRANNIES!)

David Bowie, I loved you ever since I was five... Thank you for who you were!!
+Sjobeck7 You mean since you were FIIIIIIVE YEEEAAARS old?
+Kombucha WHAT A SURPRISSSE to know David Bowie at FIIIIVE YEEAAARS old!
+burpie Exactly, a whole year ahead of Anton Newcombe.
Jak bardzo bliska jest mojemu sercu ta muzyka!

One of my favourite songs of his! RIP you brilliant man.
Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we proudly present to you the Carlos Alomar Orchestra.
Every single second of this.
Bowie, wait for me on the other side! I want to come too! You meant so much to me. I hope you can hear me.
Genious! Very classic Bowie!
so beautiful
De las mejores obras de Bowie: la trilogía de Berlín... Contiene tanta emoción. Es simplemente perfecta.
My song when I have a Hyperventilation= out of breath...gets me calm and full of air again. Such beautiful music
A pure marvellous moment... Thanks Davy ! ;)
To open a concert with basically an orchestral piece is great- what a beautiful piece of music...
How much closeup is to my heart the music!
In this tragic day in particular.
Music from Silesia inspired the creation of Warsaw ...
David thank you for it.
Polska dziękuje

piękne...................
Masterpiece in the Berlin trilogy of David Bowie
What a beautiful piece of music! God bless you David!...You are truly missed.
Joy Division took his previous name from this beautiful song... They were called Warsaw in 1977...
RIP Bowie... a true Myth and Legend!
Haunting.
+Jennifer Donovan Exactly the one word I'd describe it with too!
Yes.
Hauntingly beautiful.
Yes.
Simon House on violin, another legend.
Saw that show in Montreal, Canada. To this day it is by far the best show I saw. Obviously the sound of this video is LoQ, probably a feed from the FOH console. Thanks for posting this!!!
He looked like a dream :( rip Bowie
David.... Warsaw is no longer a sad city...
a real artist
RIP 💜
Inspiration polish tradition folk song with mountain Beskid Żywiecki:
"Helo, Helo Helenko, jakze Ci sie pasie?"
Helenka, Helena, Helen - name. Helo, halo, Echo in mountains
this was the inspiration for first version of the band called Warsaw but then they later became known as Joy Division.
Thank you,mr Bowie. RIP.

meu camaleão ,coração dilacerado R.I.P
Thanx a lot !!
THIS is just PERFECT !!!
" 5 stars" can't be "enough" !!
Song + mood , just hit the "point" somehow ...
Sorry Warszawa !!!
davvero bellissimo!
Il meglio sicuramente qua viene superato... Praticamente ipnotizzante...
This piece of music evoked a scene from René Barjavel's "La Nuit des temps" (The Ice People).
no words
you are right!
so fine, so fine, so fine...
Do you notice the resemblance of angelo Baldamati's Twin Peaks to this ?
makopolok angelo, like everyone, is influenced by bowie :)
Operatic Poetic Literature Music. New Media. Intelligent Art. Great.
RIP Dennis Davis.

It's about the whole cold war era that over in late 80s
Fucking legend. Legend, I say!
@highway61grant well put ! thats what makes bowie, bowie !.. lets hope he has some inspiration left following his heart attack to give us one more creative burst before he leaves this world.
@Pendeho25 david was in warsaw in '70 and thats song about the city
This music is not from tatra mountains but from Beskidy.David was Warsaw in 1977 I think and bought LP from Slask leading by Hadyna and used this music which seems strange for him
Quão longínqua foi a tua viagem, David?
good heavens! I've seen this vid a few times before but had never focused my attention on the 2nd keyboard player - creepy because he looks like gary numan? you doubt me? picture him miming car driving....
It's the late Sean Mayes.
I've always like the song, but I can't focus on the music here. He is too gorgeous
Sory you could never have heard this live in 1977 he didn't tour Low and heroes until 1978
Why was MC Hammer conducting?
that is more eno-style. bowie was the accelerator for the market,i guess. bowie is a voice-phenomena
@Pendeho25 Well it was indeed inspired by desolate of 70's Warsaw. It was still quite ruined after war, it lost its diversity and wealth. Great piece of music but what was he thinking bringing it into the live set?
Elo elo Helenko eoo

Was that Gary Numan on the keyboards?
+Mary Behrens Reckon it's Sean Mayes. Never Numan in a million years.
+Mary Behrens I thought it was Numan too! Striking resemblance.
No -- Sean Mayes, RIP.
@Daniel Wallin
Why do you have to offend others?
that's the problem with this world, bullies like you!
+Rosie Rigal can you believe the assholes who still spout their shit in 2016?
+pilarzj totally agree with you!
Can anybody name the musicians on stage here?
+Facu Cruz David Bowie, other people, etc.
Gary Numan on keyboards
Out a bit before Gary Numan
+Mart wall I saw Gary Numan in 1980/1981 (Pleasure Principle) but Tubeway Army was earlier than that. It could very well be Numan on keyboards timewise.
No, it's the late Sean mayes, who also played on Lodger.
What you mean before Moroder? I love Bowie & Moroder but get your facts right, Moroder's been around since 1970
Is that Alomar conducting?
Yep! It clearly looks like Alomar
I just saw too. how fucking cool. being an invisible eno
What an alchemy, those two.
was that Gary Numan on keyboards?
No, the late Sean Mayes.

rare
@Pendeho25 My people were largely repsonsible for that....sad.....
what is this in a sin the language?
It reminds me something of Giorgio Moroder....
he looks better than Luke!!
brian eno inluenced most of the low album
Before Moroder...
ridiculous !
extinct :(
sad how whole this Communism.
Wroclove
not a very uplifting track..good for funerals,though.
