- Drugs are expensive, don't do them
- as a former bartender, I was already ok with any of my kids wanting to try alcohol in while we are there. So nice to see others who are on the same page.
- "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." Just because someone quotes something that sounds cool, research it before you put any credence to it.
- not everyone is "Your audience" people will leave, not just as a profession (friendships too). Let them go... they are not your people

i think that sloss really hits it on the head with the american vs uk/european style of stand up. i do think that the american style is more suited for tv, it seems more like a highlights reel whereas the long form european style can get deeper and even has teaching moments that many american stand ups lack

I love this. I didn't know loads about Sloss but his youth stories are so relatable being from the south coast UK. we also drank 3l bottles of white lightning on the beach at 13/14.
Though I think my beaches were probably a lot warmer than Fife's the mad lad.

As a French person, I can attest that drinking a glass of wine for special occasions when you’re 14 or 15 is completely true. But we also start drinking hard alcohol with our friends at the same age ...
I'm french-canadian and it's pretty much the same here too. The legal drinking age is 18 in Quebec, so a lot of kids start drinking at parties around 14-15 as well. As least that was the case in the 90s when I was a teenager! ;)

Fuck, laughing and breaking my heart again. I love the frankness with which he talks and considers the question Phil asks about his sister being a driving force in why he wants kids. Both my mentally disabled siblings (still alive) are what have pushed me in the exact opposite direction. It's a breath of fresh air to hear other people considering and confessing that kind of thing out loud and so no nonsense.
Cant imagine him in a good American comedy movie, i dont see a lot of those any more. If it was up his alley I'd love to see him in something like Black Books...I wonder if hes turned down panel shows...I'd love to see him and Richard Ayoade, Noel Fielding, Jon Richardson, Bill Bailey, Dylan Moran, and a lot of panel show regulars in a room together and seeing how they play off each other.

Regarding the love with/without respect question and the blood is thicker than water quote. I respectfully add that I personally like the way the Norse put it... To the Northman an unrelated blood brother is more important than familybecause the bond is based on merit and honour not inescapable coincidence. to love someone just because they share the same blood as you is hollow and meaningless as loving someone for being Young and beautiful
