He actually has a bit about being at a celebrity golf tournament and realizing he was supposed to be one of the celebrities. He apologized to the people he was with 😂
WHAT?! Scuse me, gotta go call Joey Bag O Donuts to zip me into my special sleeping bag while singing his seminal classic "Christ has died, Christ is in prison, Christ will come at 10"
My Girlfriend's Boyfriend is one of the most amazing and poetic stand up routines of all time. I've listened to it and watched it dozens of times, and it never gets old. So good. He is truly talented.
My childhood was somehow both "go outside and play, just come back for dinner" and "you can't go over to blahblah's house if you get bad grades" 🥴 Like damn, make up your mind.
Parents forget to share with new parents how HARD being a parent IS!! I am so surprised how many parents don't kill their babies. And yes I know how that sounds. But when you are a new parent and NO ONE has validated the fact that it's not all sunshine and roses, and that it can be very difficult, they are left feeling very ALONE in that space. We need to be honest with parents and let them know that they will get angry, because they are sleep deprived. Let them know that it will not always be fun, but they will get through those moments. ❤❤❤
Can we all just appreciate how much work and research Phil puts into these podcasts? He always seems to know the work that his guests have done, inside and out.
Tbh I think he just interviews people he’s a genuine fan of and the crew prolly does a bit more research. I’ve been watching Phil for over a decade and he’s definitely turned me on to mike all the way back when he made sleep walk with me
Man Mike has been my favorite comedian since I first got into comedy in middle school which was the same time I first starting watching Phil. I’ve been watching both of their careers since so this broke my brain to watch the two sides of my mind collide.
I feel like I have more in common with Mike from this interview than I knew. The story of his Mom and his sister sounded like he pulled that from my memory as a kid. It was my brother who was the retriever. I was the intermediate. I used to feel terrible for my sisters. I’ve always liked his delivery of comedy. It’s honestly been awhile since I’ve heard anything from him. I think I’ll get his book. Thanks, Phil.
I once walked away from my daughter watching UA-cam and came back through her watching some My Little Pony fan-made thing where one of the characters mutilates the other. Freaking UA-cam...
I couldn't quite remember which comedian Mike Birbiglia is, then he mentioned his brother Joe and it all fell into place. "OH!" I said pointing at the screen, "Joey bag o' doughnuts!"
Loved the video, however as a recommendation; I'd say keep the ad breaks spontaneous. No musical intro and outro, just hop right out and hop right back in. The musical intro and outro just feel unnecessary, even as small as they are.
Going through the same thing with my mom that Mike is with his dad. So hard to try and talk to someone whose understanding of the internet is so lacking that they genuinely believe everything they read, especially if it's scary for some reason.
So funny that Mike Birbiglia is talking about work being a distraction from the big questions about death and the meaning of life, when it was his work (comedy special 'Thank God for Jokes') that marked the manifestation of a legit religious upheaval in my life. I basically gave up religion for years and after flirting with the pitiless void of nihilism for a while have finally gotten back to finding some meaning in my life. I think a lot about the scene from Ricky Gervais' movie, The Invention of Lying, where he is trying to comfort his dying mum. Sometimes comedians have a way of blind-siding you with the profound.
Funny, I have just started documenting my disposal desires. Research Water Cremation - fascinating and totally what I want. Found one in Colorado which will also arrange for me to Be a Tree (I picked red maple)
After listening to this podcast, I went and watched his special "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend" and was laughing the whole time! Definitely a fan of his now
My husband and I were on the same side of a t-bone accident in February. There was security cam footage of the driver that hit us going at least 15 mph over the speed limit. But we still got the ticket and our insurance has jumped significantly since we were found at fault. It is infuriating that the person that gets hit is always assumed at fault.
I once saw Mike Birbiglia do a show where he expressed a desire to end his jokes with his name, like "Why did the chicken cross the road? Because it was on fire. Mike Birbiglia!" (That particular joke is a Scott Adams joke, but you get the idea.) Ever since that show, I have never forgotten his name. I would not say I am a fan, but I know who he is, which counts for more than I expected - if I see a new comedy special from someone I don't know, I am far less likely to watch it than a Mike Birbiglia special because I go "hey, I know who that is." Brilliant fucking marketing. Literally just "get your name out there." I will watch anything with Mike Birbiglia in it, because I know his name. The only thing I have ever seen like this was when Steve Oedekerk literally stood silent on stage while the sound system played the name "Oedekerk" with different tones and inflections for several minutes. (I feel like there is a story behind that, like "every time I asked if I could do a part of my act they said no," but I don't know the story.) Whenever Steve does anything, I go "I know that name" and I watch it. Slight caveat: both Mike and Steve are brilliant, so whenever I watch the thing they did, it is awesome and I love it. I would only raise a finger to say that when Mike does something, it is just "that thing" and I don't know the name of it or how to describe it. Steve did "Kung Pow" and a bunch of thumb movies. So like, maybe that's a thing to work on? Or maybe it doesn't matter so long as "Mike Birbiglia" makes me want to watch stuff.
Honest to Gawd, I couldn't click fast enough to get here. Mike Birbiglia is one of my favorite comedians; makes me laugh even when he's not doing his act. To this day, his bit about being on a date as a young teenager, at an amusement park/fair, (eg: The Scrambler), is still one of the funniest things I've ever heard! I'm talking sore abs, sore face and tears, all from laughing soooo hard! I also love that he doesn't feel the need to swear during his act. (Not that I mind comedians who swear, lol).
I think that happiness threshold was 70K. If you make over 70K you wont be any happier making more than that. But yeah 100 million dollars is definitely fuck me money. meaning I have enough money that anyone can fuck with me, and it wouldn't matter slightly because I could cover it.
Yea that's bullshit. I'm sure that's true for somebody but not everybody. It depends on where you live and what 70k buys there. 72k is the poverty line in my area, I assure you that it's significantly more than 70k before the novelty wears off. You can't even save + rent an apt on that much here. . Even if we look at the bigger picture though, 70k is median household income on a national level. so I find it hard to believe that the average family isn't more happy with additional money. . As for 100m, as pay increases, lifestyle increase. 100m when you make 70k seems infinite, but when you buy a 50m jet and it costs 1m to upkeep it every year, that 100m goes fast. Once you get over 1b though, that's where you physically can't buy stuff for yourself that will affect your wealth.
@@MrSlowestD16 I understand that. I live in California and I feel like 70K should be starting pay out of college. I'm simply quoting the study(which actually turns out to be 75k). www.cnbc.com/id/50027184
Wow. Phil going mask off with how the only thing keeping him from being evil is money. Gonna make sure I don't contribute to this by never watching anything of his ever again. Love Mike, though.
How do you figure that? I'm not saying he's never made a compromise I've disagreed with, but in his voicing of how he feels about why he feels the need to have the financial stability he does because of how he was raised hardly seems evil. It's very real for a lot of people.
Jeez, I really don't think "most comics" have trouble putting on shows over the last 4 years because Trump was in office. This guy has some massive consensus bias issues going on... Sticks & Stones got a 99% on rotten tomatoes FFS. Paper Tiger got a 96%. Nobody can't understand jokes because they're deranged enough to not understand the setup....does he really think that?
Honestly.... this might be one of my favorites. Can't wait to do it all over again.
I’m sure this podcast will be great !
When are you getting a “camera 4”? Cuz that view is great for ultimate chaos moments.
I was a lot of fun. I learned that Mike Birbiglia is more than funny, he has tech and a flair for snow tubing.
I love Mike Birbiglia, hes great.
You should get Chelsea from The Financial Diet, and Mama Doctor Jones on the podcast.
FINALLY, we meet!
I love how Mike Birbiglia sounds like he feels he's not big enough to be here.
He actually has a bit about being at a celebrity golf tournament and realizing he was supposed to be one of the celebrities. He apologized to the people he was with 😂
@@megshep yes I love Mike Birbiglia
I like how you sound like we feel he is.
BTW he is...
Very underrated, been that way for a long time.
@@DrSeanKennedy 15k subs... That's pretty weak tbh but I like that Philip got love for the small creators
Mike Birbiglia's set looks like he is hosting a very sleep version of a John/Hank Green education series

Nicely played!

So good.
He is truly talented.
hands down my favorite comedy special. it truly always makes me laugh
I put it on when I can't fall asleep because I know it back and forth, it's amazing.
Dude! Mike is great! I've been following his comedy for a while now. Nice to see the big names on the show.
Don't have time for the full podcast? Make sure to check out the CLIPS CHANNEL! ;)
No 😠
Mike birbiglia got me into comedy when his specials started showing up on pandora when i was like 11. Love to see him on here!
Omg same!! I stole my sisters amazon tablet and listened to all his stuff over and over again on joke at a time and out of order.

One of my favorite youtubers with one of my favorite comedians? Yes!!!
Why do you have such few women on your show?
Mike Birbiglia has been one of my favorite comedians and storytellers for going on 15 years now. This was a great conversation and a great episode!
Going through the same thing with my mom that Mike is with his dad. So hard to try and talk to someone whose understanding of the internet is so lacking that they genuinely believe everything they read, especially if it's scary for some reason.

I thought this video was actually going to include a NDE. Kinda clickbait Phil.
