      Damn you're doing a full body workout 3 times a week! That's impressive.
      I just do a 10-minute workout everyday and every single day of the week is a difference focus, whether it's leg day, core day, arm day, etc.
      I do my workouts in correspondence with certain days of the week, (and every day of the week is a different chakra Focus to) like yesterday was Thor's day (Thursday) which is my day for the full body workout.
      I don't even mind when people comment on my channel and laugh at the idea that I called different days of the week by the god they were named after. 😅😅😅
      I guess it's my own little way of reminding myself of which day I'm supposed to do what, 😂😂😂

      That is a good idea. But most people on those types of splits want too much out of it. They say "how can I do squats, deadlift, chin ups, bench, flyes, rows, tricep cables.. Etc. Etc" Fact is you can't. You need "bang for your buck exercises". They expect to do full body sessions but start them with 10 sets of bench press. It's silly.

    • @ukguy
      @ukguy 4 роки тому +2

      @@jjwp-ql5rvI usually just do 1 compound exercise for each bodypart for 3-4 sets i.e benchpress, weighted chin ups, military press, dumbbell row, squat, deadlift for example then do a few sets for biceps and triceps at the end, I have 3 workouts and just alternate them.

      Every day of the week is a 10-minute workout for me and every day of the week is a different focus on the body.
      Just like yesterday was Thor's day or should I say Thursday as everyone knows it.
      which is my own little fun reminder to tell me which day of the week I'm supposed to be doing what.
      I honestly don't mind that people kind of giggle at my channel for calling different days of the week by Woden's day or Thor's day.
      Woden's day for me being middle of the week is also the heart chakra where I just get my heart rate up for 10 minutes.
      And Thor's day is the one day of the week I do a full body workout.
      😅😅

    5:00 I really like to do these without any support, I find that they build a surprising amount of hamstring stability and strength. • @WastedWastelander

    I tried full body workout, just because it’s currently all over youtube. I think it’s total bs. I get very fatigued when i train chest, back and legs on the same day. I know, they say bs like “when doing squats make sure to leave 2-3 in the tank”. Well, how the fuck should I know how many reps I still have in the tank?! I don’t have clairvoyance, k? I progress by constantly challenging my limits. How the fuck are you gonna know what that limit is if you leave it unchecked?
    But then again, doing splits where you wreck every muscle only once a week is fucking stupid too. A week has 7 days not 5, k? So this is how I do it and I think everyone else who doesn’t do it like this is an idiot: You wreck one big muscle group and the corresponding smaller muscles per day. For instance: monday legs, tuesday chest, shoulders and triceps, Wednesday back and biceps, Thursday legs, Friday chest and triceps, saturday back and biceps, Sunday legs, monday chest and triceps... see what I’m doing? You don’t make breaks just because it’s fucking weekend. So I hit every muscle 2 to 3 times a week with still having 48hours rest period for every muscle. Makes sense? I just rant because I watch too much Bill Burr, I’m not angry.

I sometimes vary it with a four day upper/lower split but I really enjoy the full body. But then again, my goal isn’t the physique of the mountaindog or jeff nippard.

    Starting Jeff Nippards program today. Went pretty close to failure today on legs(leg emphasis day) and tomorrow I'm going to blast my chest.
    Done alphadestiny's way as well in 2018. FBW 2-3 timed a week.
    Honestly, hardest I've ever trained. It paid off for a while, but I realized I was missing out on a few accessory movements that I wanted to do. My workouts would be 2,5 hours long and I'd really tired for the next 48 hours. I could definitely feel that I needed the recovery.
    These workouts take 1 hour and they aren't as draining. I hope the frequency will work it's magic.

      I've been doing this style of workout for a few months, maybe a year now. I like it a lot, I only have 3 days a week to workout and I want to hit each important body part 2-3 times a week so this works well for me. I pair agonist and antagonist muscle groups together to save time (e.g., bench and row super sets), since the downside of these workouts is that after adding volume for a few weeks you'll be in the gym up to 2 hours at a time. The other downside is you have to choose 2 or 3 muscle groups per training block to prioritize, since you can't get maximum volume for every muscle group. But I'm not trying to step onto a body building stage so I'm fine with this downside as well.

  • @kogkaros

    People tend to lose sight of what is really important.Every one is looking for the most optimal way to train, be that an upper lower split, a full body workout, a push pull legs, or whatever.Finding what is optimal for you is good, but what's more important, is that your workout is enjoyable to you.You need to have a routine that makes you want to go the gym consistently.It doesn't matter if your routine is the best there is, created by the best minds in sports science, if it makes you feel like skipping workouts.

    I've done it just like you said every other day for years and had great results more of like a circuit training not lifting super heavy tho. I play alot of basketball and softball so it's great for that type of body/physique. I've absolutely gotten stronger & built muscle too that way. Although right now I'm not training that way I'm doing the split because I believe on switching ur training up every couple weeks plus trying to bulk a lil bit but either next week or the week after I'll be doing the whole body training every other day for 3wks or so. I do like the whole body every other day circuit training especially for summer I can get an amazing workout in within 45min even normally I go an hour to hour Ina half tho. That's my thoughts it's great especially if ur not trying to be huge & just wanting like that basketball player CrossFit look lean but bigger than average muscle.

After legs we rest 5 mins, have a banana and milk/raw eggs and then go for the upper body. Back then supplements were not available.
    Legs were very difficult bodypart back then. Hence they were prioritized. Now maybe it does not matter.

Never took rest periods such as three days off or something just to recover. Now 12 years later and I still have to baby my shoulder and my left knee when I workout. Is the 2nd workout going to be more leg-dominant , I wonder... TBH, I believe fullbody workouts flow when one starts with legs. The things take longer to warm up, and your upper body does get the blood in. Warming up legs and posterior chain from bench press leg drive doesn't quite work the same though.

  • @thomasknapp7236
    @thomasknapp7236 3 роки тому

    You don't train too "easy" with a total body workout. You simply don't push AS hard. Plus, imagine hitting chest day. You get a good warmup, get a sweat...a pump. Then go for it. So you end up with 4-5 exercises maybe 4 working sets each, some to failure. If not all. Chest was destroyed and mission was accomplished. However, you won't hit chest again for maybe 4-5 days, and stimulation is great for growth and shape. Total body, hit every body part with some warm-ups, then 3-4 working sets. What nippard says is on point. You still go hard as fuck on those working sets. Then tomorrow, I'll pick a different chest workout, and hammer the fuck out of it. Third day, ill do more of a deload, mind muscle exercise...like ladder push-ups. Then the fourth day chest won't be a main goal...instead when I hit tris, that will be enough recovery to keep going. Obviously you have a day or 2 off totally. I just started with this program a month ago, and I'm loving the new style. I may not do it forever, but its been an awesome change, and a new found hunger. I'm 5'9" and 193. With the bro split, I was 203ish. But not near as cut and vascular. Every body is different, and we all grow and progress with different methods. I love your vids and consistently watch them before a lift.

  • @RickfromFresno1
    @RickfromFresno1 4 роки тому +1

    Thx for the video, John. I gotta say upfront that I'll always stick to the bro split I do. My question is, and u kinda hinted that you might feel the same way I do, are you really giving each exercise in a full body routine the same intensity you could with a bro split? To me, you seemed winded and a full body kinda lends itself to a more aerobic, endurance side? If that makes sense. I just don't see the deep fiber breakdown because you kinda have to leave reps in the tank to get thru the whole workout. It's almost more of a CrossFit, kinda functional type of workout. More along the tire flipping, kettle bell swinging, sled dragging.
    Honestly, I don't think your numbers are gonna be as high in ur reps or weight. It's gonna be interesting to see what happens by Friday. Also, u didn't hit calves directly. I think decades ago, the reason we went to splits in the first place us because as we grew stronger and our intensity grew, we found we simply couldn't do everything in one workout. Better eat and get some sleep and thx again for testing this for all of us to see. 👍💪

    The key to everyday training is to drastically decrease the volume. Do 3 sets of 1 exercise per muscle group and you can still keep the intensity high and 1 or 2 reps shy of failure
    Example Full Body Split:
    Day 1- Barbell Bench, Leg Press, Cable Row, Dumbbell Bicep Curl, Lateral Raise,
    Day 2- Weighted Pull-Ups, Incline Dumbbell Fly, Back Squat, Barbell Shoulder Press, One Arm Cable Curl
    Day 3- Deadlift, Barbell Bicep curl, Lateral Raises, Machine Chest Press, Tricep Rope Push Down, Leg extensions
    This is a very rough outline I did in just a minute, but everyone should get an idea from this.

  • @carlosmorris4510

    It's good that he's experimenting with this; this is perhaps the best way to train if you're natural - especially early on... Splits can be good once your level of conditioning has gone up, after perhaps a few years of training - wherein you'll need higher volume per session. And of course, your gains will be naturally diminished anyway at that point... So it would seem like regular body part splits - or at the least, A/B or upper/lower splits - are for the more advanced. One of the big downsides to regular splits is that it takes each body part 5 or 6 days to fully recover, but with full body you get quicker recovery and 3x a week protein synthesis... Sounds good to me. Just some thoughts. I'll be starting my own 3-day full body routine soon, with my own twist:
    1. Barbell work (primarily)
    * Rest
    2. Light upper (to give my upper body somewhat of a break)/complete lower (hamstring and calf work in addition to squats)
    * Rest
    3. Dumbbell work
    * Rest
    * Rest
    ...Great flexibility with full body training, it seems; you can hit different exercises on each day (flat presses for the chest on day 1; inclines on day 3, for example). I've never done this before either, but I'm going to give it a go.
