Like, it's a waste of time not to use a standard team in arcade play, even If 90% of endings are irrelevant to main lore.
Carlos Augusto Well most endings in the KOF games are canon for that specific team, but each game has a true ending that requires a specific team to get. For this game, you’ll need the Sacred Treasure Team (Kyo, Iori, Chizuru).
And in the majority of the games you can take the "team ending" playing with one the characters in single mode. Kof is made to play in teams but if you are playing to see the endings you can use this method.
At the very least, Max could’ve used Ryo instead of Iori. You get a bonus mini-ending with Kyo, Terry, and Ryo.

Iori thinks he's an edgelord, but he's in a jazz band and his only two confirmed kills come back from the dead like every single tournament just because.
Still one of the best characters in fighting games
He means business when he's up for it, but he doesn't have to. Also can't forget how sweet he can be around smol animals.
He is a typical emo/edgy character from the 90's. And it's funny to remember how people loved this character, lol looking at Iori nowadays, I can only feel the cringe. On a more positive note, it's surprising how Terry aged well. The engrish remains hilarious and the design is not super forced.

I get what you say but lets be real here, KOF (and most fighting games to be honest) are not bright in the story department. I mean do we really care of the story of a game were the same people goes to the same Tournament over a dozen times to Fight the same guys and EVERY SINGLE TIME they end fighting with a villain over and over?

I think this is the KoF with a whole bunch of hidden team endings as well as endings for all of the default teams. But this particular team gets the generic ending.

One of the funniest teams in 97 is Clark, Ralf and Athena.
They end up dressed as their original costumes, Clark and Ralf with their Ikkari Warriors and Athena and Kensou as the Psycho Soldiers.

I miss the whole teammates watching in the background thing. It gave you neat little things like Mary stomping her feet in anger when a teammate loses, Goro's teammates jumping up before he does his ground pound because they know it's coming, stuff like that. Fun fact about Shermie, she actually has the largest bust size out of all the ladies.
annoying how the later KoF's removed this. Hopefully KoF XV will be a return to form (though I have doubts)
@@budgiecat9039 They had to remove it due to the Striker and Tag System from the Nests and Ash arcs respectively. Interestingly sometimes when you are near your team and your opponent grabs you, you press ABC then a teammate jumps in and knocks you free. Only been able to do it once though, and I main KOF
And with the current technology they could make It look much better. But i have doubts If It Will return in the next games...

It's heartbreaking to know that Max despises the two characters that I love and main the most. But at least his reaction at 33:39 makes up for it.

I don't know alot about KOF besides owning Capcom vs SNK 2 and that's not saying much lol. I was always a Street Fighter kid growing up but she was definitely startling as a mf. I've seen orochi irori? (if that's the right name for him?) but never Leona like that. She went straight horror movie on Team 'Hands'.

Given that max is playing these on the normal difficulty for the legacy it may be easier. Emphasis on MAY. Magaki is a piece of shit as I'm sure most of you already know. Thankfully Robert Eiji and Ex Kyo can get some insane damage on him provided the ai doesn't feel like an asshole. Terry is also amazing in XI. Here's hoping max plays Kof XI and maybe does KOF boss rages in the future.

My first time playing KOF '97 was via the Orochi Saga collection for the Wii. It was a used copy, so when I noticed that the game didn't have much music I thought that there was something wrong with the disc. Then I found out that there was nothing wrong with it, that's how the game is.... I was rather surprised...
You gotta watch out for those surprises.
The only characters with themes are the team leaders and the new characters, Kyo, Terry, Athena, Chris, Shermie, Yashiro, Billy, Mary, Yamazaki, Iori and Shingo
It was always weird to me that this game didn’t have music throughout the stages, pretty much only leaders of teams had themes. Terry, Athena, Kyo, etc. (well outside of the “97 Special” Team, in that one Yamazaki, Billy, and Blue Mary all get their own themes from past games) At the same time tho I do sort of like it. The ambience sort of adds to the atmosphere of the game.
I will say tho I was definitely disappointed in Orochi as a boss, his design was ehhh and he was too easy to beat, especially after coming up against guys like Rugal and Goenitz. He didn’t feel like he was as big of a threat even tho story wise he clearly was the strongest. Other than that tho I think ‘97 is great, especially gameplay wise.
Agreed. The New Faces Team was hype, and I thought they'd be a great preview of their boss, but Orochi himself was kinda lackluster.

I believe that this ending was just the generic one that everybody gets.....
whenever they use a custom team instead of an official one.
If you had used a Terry/Andy/Joe team or a Kyo/Goro/Benimaru team,
then you'd have seen a partially-the-same, but unique regular ending for each team.
If you used Kyo/Benimaru/Goro and beat Orochi with Kyo, then bonus fight after the Orochi stuff is done.

That Orochi Leona, too! Comes out of nowhere, but it works so well! That fight single-handedly made her one of my favs the first time I played through 97.

Reason for no music in 97 is because SNK want it to be more atmospheric The only curtain characters have themes:

Iori
Athena
Shingo
Billy
Blue Mary
Yamazaki
The New Faces team (Yoshiro, Shermie, and Chris.)
And The Final Bosses.

@@trashman680 yeah, Kyo and Iori were popular. We all know that SNK wanted to make a new protagonist who later on is K'. Still kinda cool that if you earn enough points on 99 you can fight either of Kyo or Iori.
Considering how much the Real Bout series remixed or re-used older tracks, I'm shocked this game doesn't. Which is a shame, because I love the stages and overall UI of this game.
Once the legacy is finished I hope someone puts together every "Max bullies Andy" moment, the voice kills me every time.
Yeah despite this huge build-up Orochi, ended up as one of the considered easiest boses of kof games next to Zero from Kof 2000.

Goosey Geese Clone Zero was a pushover in KOF00 much like Orochi was in KOF97. Of course, this was remedied in ‘98: Ultimate Match and 2002: Unlimited Match where their AIs were upped considerably.
Yeah Orochi and C. Zero are actually a pain in the ass on 98UM and 2002UM
Orochi is too easy. Clone Zero is a little bit of a challenge compared.
