Now for King of Fighters '99! This is the beginning of a new Saga, the NESTS Saga (and this game is my favorite of the NESTS Saga)... Even though this is my favorite Saga thus far (I'm a sci-fi guy lol Why do you think I have Bass.EXE as my current avatar?), this is also the most confusing one due to it being handled weirdly at the end. I doubt I can make things clearer, but I'll do my best! T^T ALSO KRIZALID IS THE BEST!! HOW DARE HE DISS KRIZALID!?!! "Konna hazu wa...!" ("How could this be...!") - The Fatal Fury Team's theme is a remix of Terry's theme from Wild Ambition! I LOVE this theme! This song kind of gets a "sequel" in 2000. - When choosing the roster, Rick Strowd and Li Xiangfei from Real Bout 2 were considered... However, Xiangfei was chosen over Rick, and Vanessa would pretty much take his place, even "stealing" some of his moves. Oh well... At least Rick's theme, Exceed the Limit, was sick af. - Due to this Saga's mood and tone, the game makes sure to let you know that. Everything is more...techno based! This is one of the few KOF games where I love EVERY TEAM'S theme song. A lot of people compare these songs to Mega Man or Sonic the Hedgehog levels, and they aren't wrong! Listen to the freakin' Psycho Solider Team's theme! Straight out of Sonic Heroes / Advance 3! Listen to the Woman Fighters Theme! Listen to the Korean Team Theme! LISTEN TO KRIZALID'S THEMES (especially the arranged versions)!!! EEEE!!! - To spruce up the gameplay a bit, Strikers were added. The Striker system was alright in this game, but got better in 2000 and 2001. Unlike 2000 and 2001, you can only call in your Strikers while on the ground and practically standing still. T~T 2000 and onward let you do it practically any time, even while punching your opponent! It set up some nice combos! - Kyo and Iori were originally going to be taken from the roster ENTIRELY. But SNK figured this decision would piss off fans so they decided to add them in as secret unlockable characters that you get by fighting the secret final bosses. However, we have the two Kyo clones: Kyo-1, who's based on the '94-'95 moveset, and Kyo-2, who's based on the '96-'97 moveset. (NOTE: Kusanagi, who debuts in 2002, is actually not a NESTS Clone of Kyo, and would later be known as a clone of Kyo made by Chizuru's mirror powers. He's not even evil, just real feisty and high-spirited) - Kyo was kidnapped after he defeated Orochi in '97 and he's been missing ever since (for 2 years, he's been gone). NESTS took his DNA in hopes of giving others the Kusanagi Flame and creating numerous Kyo clones. At some point, Kyo escaped. Iori has been searching for Kyo because... Well, he hates Kyo. And needless to say, Iori is pissed at the clones here. Benimaru and Shingo team up in this year's KOF in hopes of finding Kyo, and they are teaming up with newcomers K' and Maxima. - The protagonist of this Saga is none other than K' (pronounced K-Dash). He was kidnapped by the NESTS Cartel, had his memories stolen and given Kyo's DNA. He's one of the few who can control the flames but he has to use a special glove to control them. K' and his partner Maxima team up with Benimaru and Shingo as per NESTS' orders and the plan was to have them advance all the way to the finals to meet Krizalid where he would use their battle data to activate the Kyo Clones he had ready in order to create a simultaneous attack on the world... Believe it or not, Kyo's flames are really dangerous and he doesn't usually go all out. In the hands of evil, they can be deadly! Anyhow, K' is tricked into believing that he was Krizalid's clone and like K', Krizalid has the Kusanagi Flame. HOWEVER, it turns out that Krizalid is K's clone, and not the other way around. The Hero Team reunites with Kyo but they are separated by the collapsing base and the arrival of the Ikari Warriors' squad. The mysterious voice ((Clone) Zero, as seen in KOF 2000) kills Krizalid and taunts our protagonists. With all of these crazy ongoings, K' is now rebelling against NESTS as he fights to obtain his memories. - K' and Maxima's designs are based on two characters from The Fallen Angels, Cool and Harry Ness. A character designer of that game, Shin'ichi Morioka, moved to SNK after the game's release and incorporated the designs into K' and Maxima... Though K's hair was REALLY similar to Rock Howard's hair (and Garou came out in 99), so he really freaked out about it. lmao - K' was actually not expected to be popular on release... but that was proven wrong big time! Similar to Iori's debut in '95, K' was HIGHLY well received! He's one of the more popular characters, alongside the Anti-K' character, Kula Diamond (but more on this adorable character in 2000...if he releases the video, because while Max did play this game, he beat it SUPER quick... Then again, this was Level-1, and around this time, being on Level-1 difficulty actually MEANT something). - Whip, one of the newcomers and teammate of the Ikari Team, is actually the clone of K's sister named Seirah. Strangely, Whip has a censored gun attack (K9999 (pronounced "K-Four-Nine", fyi) also has a censored attack in KOF 2001 but enough about him). The theme song called "W.W.III" debuts in this game and is Whip's theme for KOF 14. Fun Factoid: Whip was supposed to debut in '96, but Leona took her place! For '99, Whip was supposed to contrast Leona design wise but "covering up" more... Strange enough, her name is an anagram for "Winnie-the-Pooh". Okay then. lmao - Krizalid is the best. Don't shit talk him! XD He is the clone of K' as NESTS likely sensed that K' would betray them due to what they've done to him. Unlike K', Krizalid has undying loyalty to NESTS but he's actually pretty low-ranking in the cartel (clearly high enough to have a bunch of Kyo Clones at his disposal though). He was tricked into believing that Whip was his sister, but the truth was, she was K's sister. You find this out in the Ikari Team ending where Whip stays behind the crumbling base to see Krizalid before he passes. She decides to leave him to die, but she's found crying by Heidern (even though she keeps a straight face). Krizalid returns in KOF 2001, "revived" in a clone body, but he's only a Striker for the real Zero... But goddamn, he has a sick coat in that game! Anyway, Whip actually kills Krizalid this time with her gun, according to the canon 2001 light novel. However, like many bad guys, it appears that Krizalid has returned from the dead after Verse's demise in KOF 14. Should Verse beat K', his win quote has Krizalid speaking directly to K'... Eerie. - Just like last game, there are Special Edit Teams such as the "All Fatal Fury Team" (simply have 4 characters be Fatal Fury characters... except for the primary Fatal Fury Team of this game... So you can put in Terry, Andy, Joe, and Blue Mary, for example). Playing these Edit Teams unlock special artwork at the end, though this is only for console versions and updated versions, if I'm not mistaken. - KOF 99: Evolution is an update on this game. Krizalid (2nd Phase) is playable in this version. This game has an arranged OST, 3D Stages, BRAND NEW Stages, and, most importantly, this game has EXTRA STRIKERS and as the name implies, they are only Striker characters and cannot be played normally. Such strikers includes Fio Germi from Metal Slug (best girl), Goro Daimon (who's actually absent as a player until 2001), Billy, Yamazaki, Chizuru, Gai Tendo from Buriki One (a successor to AOF), Syo Kirishima (a prototype design of Kyo), Alfred from Real Bout 2, special versions of Kyo and Athena, AND Vannessa & Seth who would debut in 2000! Vanessa and Seth were meant to appear in '99 but time constraints. - Fun Fact: Syo Kirishima shares the same voice actor of Sean from SF3: Third Strike...and he has a voice clip from that game in KOF 99 Evolution! How did SNK get away with that??? - This game's assets were heavily used in the GBA KOF game called "The King of Fighters EX: Neo Blood". Yeah, didn't know that there were KOF games for the GBA did you~? Interestingly enough, the EX series is a branching timeline. The NESTS Saga just...never happened! Instead of Kyo being captured at the end of '97 by NESTS, he was found by a character exclusive to the EX series named Moe Habana. But K' and Maxima still appear as hidden strikers alongside Vanessa and Yamazaki. The Final Boss of this game is Geese Howard, no one special here. Another interesting detail is despite this game clearly being based on '99, almost all the character/team themes are based off the ones found in KOF 2000. And that was KOF '99~ ...As you can see, I love '99~ (And no, it's not because I was born in 1999) Got any questions on this Saga, feel free to ask or whatever~ TwT
The only thing I don't like about the NESTS saga is that they failed to execute (This saga has probably the greatest premise in all of Kof saga) , it was a bit rush at the end of the saga and only a few characters were developed like Kyo and K'
I love the absurdity genius of "hey, that guy who beat Orochi is really strong, lets make thousands of clones of him" Out of the KoF main characters K' is probably my favorite to play, apart from NESTS Kyo
@@sammyramirez6869 No, the canon ending is K' team. The NESTS saga, KOF99-2001 are all win by K' team coz he is the main protagonist of this saga. Also, for 2003, while Ash is hype as the new main character, K' team is still the winner, K' is the one who defeated both Adelheid and Mukai at the end. Ash, K' and Kyo team ending in 2003 are tie together, all 3 are canon. In XI, Elisabeth team is the winner, but Kyo team is the one who defeated Magaki. Ash in both 2003 and XI just act like a villain, in XIII he finally show his true heroic self, ending both of his life and Saiki. Worth mentioned - for Maximum Impact storyline, Alba ending is the canon one as he is the main protagonist for this series. Was hoping we will get Maximum Impact 3 in the future, they need to end this storyline. Alba's ending in Maximum Impact 2 hint that Soiree is the main villain for the third game. If I'm not wrong, Maximum Impact 3 was plan to do back in PS3/360 era, but got cancelled.
@@shawziiz5031 But what about when Heidern's like "Ralf, Clark, come in!!!" And then he asks where they were last seen and they respond: "site 70599" which is where the player's selected characters are. So shouldn't that mean that its supposed to be Ralf, Clark, Leona and Whip in that position? Not to mention the conversation Whip has with Krizalid about their past after he's defeated.
'99 has the best stages in the KoF series, and maybe the best stage background of any 2D fighter. Love these stages, some of my absolute favorites of SNK's amazing library of work.
FINALLY. The game that started my career in KOF after playing CVS and early Fatal Fury games. This was my first introduction to KOF after playing Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury 1 & 2 and much later playing CVS 2. (Note: I never knew AOF and FF took place in the same universe; my mind was blown when I found out that both series and KOF were all connected).
I like Kof 99 it ain't weird. I mean the only thing that is still some what confusing is the back-dash and moving foward at the same time. The music is amazing, and can't wait towards 00, 01, and 02. Also Max, Terry ain't dead, he just decided to just chill there for a bit and left doing he's own thing. Also would've been cool if Max, had enough points to fight against Iori or Kyo with their sick themes. Tears is still the best, it's sad and sick.
@Prince Silvernane That's not my point. You can play as him too ( by various means) and binding a command grab to a fireball motion input is rather absurd.
That and his shoryuken has some invincible frames and then some, a.k.a his command grab with the leg xD. He practically plays keep away with his leg tornado thing, jump in? Uppercut. Playing streetfighter all over again lmao. I was really hoping he hit max with his machine gun punch super lol
@@FuriousGorge The fact that it's called Terry Legacy is, what I imagine, the reason why Max is only playing with Terry alone in later games, actually.

Coat was fine but his BDSM mocap tight suit is ridiculous. Best looking kof boss in my opinion is Antonov been playing kof since the 90s I always thought their bosses are too over designed. Plus Antonov looks like superstar Billy Graham.
A harlequin makeup wearing, BDSM mocap gimpsuited nobody who was so unimportant that the people he worked for killed him is better to you than Geese Howard or Igniz?
I don't get the hate the NESTS saga gets. It's a pretty good storyline, had great games (with exception of 2001), and introduced boatloads of fan favorite characters.
I honestly dont think people "hate" It in those terms. It's more because of the bad reception of the striker concept (It was a good experiment for the time and i personally like the creativity side behind It, but it's not good for Kof); the way they forced Kyo and Kyo out of the main stage in 99 (the first Sf3 suffered with that, and this game was made later... Snk should not have played with that); and the fact that a story game is one of the worst in the series (01). I dont think people bother too much to hate a Kof game for its story... (even though there are much more reasons to pay attention to the story in comparison to Sf at least)
@@Rangaisia 2001 was fine it was the art that was bad. We got k9999 and angel in 01. Sad that we won't see K9999 again cause SNK got paranoid that they might get sued and they were financially in trouble already so a lawsuit means certain death for them at that point in time. Oh and 2001 was the start of pants nirvana for Kim. Rip Kim's pants you will never be forgotten.
Tbf the Fatal Fury series is great, and the cheese is kept to a minimum; while the KOF series tends to get harder with each entry; and the bosses get more ridiculously OP (IGNIZ!!!!)
@@djpegao It doesnt get harder and harder overall, only the bosses (and that rule was even broken recently by Verse). The ai overall is fairer in the later games compared to the early ones for example. But one significant factor that really adds up to that "difficulty", in practical terms, is that Snk makew more severe system changes in their games than Capcom. So that takes people too much of their comfort zone built in past iterations - in the case of the transition to the striker system and tag system. No Sf changed that way (not even Sfa3 is comparable), and that must the case for most fg franchises. Now, for a total Snk Noob like him who is already looks pretty lost, all that must make a bigger difference. Still, the point is that the game difficulty overall didnt get harder in every New game.
Since Krizalid was one of the 36 souls stored inside Verse before his destruction, he, along with the other bosses who were stored inside Verse, might have a chance at a comeback in KOFXV.

I didn't realize how gorgeous the stages in this game look in high quality. The NESTS saga was an interesting place for KOF; some of the games were really good, others not so much. The NESTS arc introduced some really cool characters like K', Kula, Vanessa, and Angel, but also introduced Seth who is one of the most lame characters I've seen in any fighting game. I wonder if Max is going to play the one (KOF '01, I think) with K9999; the dude is basically Tetsuo from Akira. He even had the same voice actor.
Max said he plans to skip KOF 2001 because he didn't like the NESTS SAGA after playing KOF 99 and KOF 2000. By the way Nameless >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> K9999.
It's a bit random. His reaction like he's never play KOF '99 or possibly the next installment and this is like the first time he sees the Nests Arc. Well, it's a fun homage to see.
He is a total Noob and is clearly very lost in all these games, in case you havent noticed much. The only char whose moveset he is used to is Terry (see How he plays with everybody else like a baby), and that is because of his CvS2 knowledge... Not even an Snk game. He knew nothing about Terry's moves that are not in the Cvs version for example. So he is literally learning these old Snk games only now.
Yeah, I do noticed it and that's why it's strange... Consider he's decent enough (but you already pointed out why). But yeah, it seems that Terry is the one he's most comfortable with... While others he puts as teammates are either he's decent or barely. Also, we know old SNK KOF games plays differently with each of it's installment from predecessor to successor. Still, i think he's doing decent on his own accord... Better that me if I'm playing, I say it out. Noob is a bit harsh, but I guess there is no correct term to put it.

He's not even evil, just real feisty and high-spirited)
- Kyo was kidnapped after he defeated Orochi in '97 and he's been missing ever since (for 2 years, he's been gone).
Though K's hair was REALLY similar to Rock Howard's hair (and Garou came out in 99), so he really freaked out about it. lmao
- K' was actually not expected to be popular on release... but that was proven wrong big time!
Okay then. lmao
- Krizalid is the best.
Such strikers includes Fio Germi from Metal Slug (best girl), Goro Daimon (who's actually absent as a player until 2001), Billy, Yamazaki, Chizuru, Gai Tendo from Buriki One (a successor to AOF), Syo Kirishima
(a prototype design of Kyo), Alfred from Real Bout 2, special versions of Kyo and Athena, AND Vannessa & Seth who would debut in 2000!
Man, just record a video anthology of this series. Been loving your comments on all these videos.
The only thing I don't like about the NESTS saga is that they failed to execute (This saga has probably the greatest premise in all of Kof saga) , it was a bit rush at the end of the saga and only a few characters were developed like Kyo and K'
@@RevoCancel it was rushed in the end because SNK went bankrupt at that time. 2001 would have been a different game if that didn't happen.
I love the absurdity genius of "hey, that guy who beat Orochi is really strong, lets make thousands of clones of him"
Out of the KoF main characters K' is probably my favorite to play, apart from NESTS Kyo
When this terry legacy is done can you compile all your comments into a google doc? Loved reading them

We were so close to a canon team. At least we got the ending.
Max chose Mai at the end and could see the end of the Fatal Fury team of this game, but not in KOF 2000.
The canon ending I believe is with the ikari team ralf clark leona and whip
@@sammyramirez6869 K' team ending is canon
It's no fluke he's playing every kof, terry's here every year
Game over for you pal.don't forget to save
It's sad that people can only think of Terry when it comes to the king of fighters, because of Smash.
My favorite KOF from when I was a kid! Played this back in the Bronx at the arcade religiously with my buddies
So did I. The nostalgia alone made me buy a copy. So many good times.
and here I thought it will end with a generic ending because of Shingo, glad I was wrong
Fool, Krizalid is the most stylish boss in KOF and his coat is awesome!
9:30 The airport stage will always be beautiful.
'99 has the best stages in the KoF series, and maybe the best stage background of any 2D fighter. Love these stages, some of my absolute favorites of SNK's amazing library of work.
FINALLY. After God knows how many years Max finally chose a team that gave him a proper team ending and not a generic (usually bad) one.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand he skipped the ending....................................... fucking great

I CAN'T WAIT till Max fights Igniz. Holy shit, that guy was a nightmare (geese)
Max said he plans to skip KOF 2001 because he didn't like the NESTS SAGA after playing KOF 99 and KOF 2000.
Our only hope is in 2002 UM, pray for Igniz show up in the end
Clone Zero will also be a pain

I see it difficult, after all it is the one that has more requirements of the NESTS bosses in KOF 2002 UM.
I hope so. He needs to know how others felt fighting one of the most cheapest bosses that does a buttload of damage.
Everyone: We gotta get out of here before the building comes down!
Terry: No I don't think I will...
The move Krizalid does with his leg to throw you isn't a counter, it's a command grab, and yes it is a very cheap move lol
Which, on top of it, is done by pressing qcf+B/D.
@@bumblebee9736 Not that inputs matter much for the CPU.
Oh I also forgot he has that projectile reflection move too.
So early, the title is Garou: King of Fighters '99
"WEIRD CRAZY SQUID BIRDMAN"

This games stages and the music.....makes me feel like home because me and my cousin used to play it so much
The console version of kof 2003 has great music and 3d backgrounds too
Sad that Max didn't get to fight the secret boss of this game.
NESTS Kyo.
Or Iori
26:53 Mai just rolls in, calls him a b!tch, and then peaces out
I miss Krizalid
Easily one of my favs NESTS, along with O. Zero.
Shingo has become the random jobber enemy that gets a surprise redemption in a later arc
How can you call Krizalid lame, when his theme song is so BADASS!?
looks like he finally discovered that if u play with the full team you get their ending
Don't worry... Max got the generic ending again in KOF 2000 when he played it on stream.
He knows but he wants to pick custom teams anyway.
@@chestercastaneda4920 Okay but the series is called Terry Legacy and it would have been nice to actually see all of the endings with Terry in them.
@@FuriousGorge The fact that it's called Terry Legacy is, what I imagine, the reason why Max is only playing with Terry alone in later games, actually.
It feels really weird looking at Mai in a regular turtle neck sweater during the ending.
Krizalid went out the Ceasar Zeppeli way,
Shizaaaa...
I Played the Dreamcast version of this game until my fingers almost bled lol
Ya know, for a guy who loves Shotos, Max tends to avoid the AoF fighters. Robert seems right down his ally gameplay wise.
He probably has a negative feeling towards AOF fighters because Ryo is a SF rip off
The AoF characters also have a weird habit of changing moves and inputs especially Yuri and Robert.
@@Gamersgoinblind He doesnt care enough about any these games to the point of being concerned about the moveset changes. Also he is a total Noob at the games. His best char must be Terry, but everybody else is played like a little kid. So It wouldnt matter...
It's a more in appearance and concept though. They are mostly different from shotos, at least in these games after 96... Perhaps the Kyokugen char who is the closest to a typical shoto would be Marco from Garou interestingly.
I agree. I mean, he's basically a copy of Ken Masters, but with fancier clothes.
I thought Krizalid looked awesome! well, more so with his coat
Without his coat he seems to have a BDSM suit.
@@andrako748 I remember being upset that you couldnt use him with his coat on. he looks much cooler in the later games iirc
Yeah definitely liked krizalid in both forms
Coatless Krizalid is one of my favorite sprites in all of KOF

Krizalid is actually my favorite KoF boss design. Especially with his badass coat.
Ikr, i don't know why max didn't like it :/
Coat was fine but his BDSM mocap tight suit is ridiculous. Best looking kof boss in my opinion is Antonov been playing kof since the 90s I always thought their bosses are too over designed. Plus Antonov looks like superstar Billy Graham.
more a Clone Zero fan, but I see why u like Coat Krizalid
He's just a generic edgelord lol
A harlequin makeup wearing, BDSM mocap gimpsuited nobody who was so unimportant that the people he worked for killed him is better to you than Geese Howard or Igniz?
I had this on PS1, the load times were unbearable.
Yeah i own it on ps1. Thinking about getting a dreamcast just for it's version of kof 99 among other fighters.
I had this game on PC back in the day no loading. And I had a mediocre PC back then.
Round 1..................................
The Dreamcast version is great!!
Very fun to watch. I would love to see someone do this type of a play through of something like last blade or some of the older samshos.
According to the Wiki, Krizalid is Irish.
Does that make K' and Whip irish too?
@@syazwanmustapah2826 No it just means Krizalid loves the Irish accent so much he adopted their culture. Can't blame him.
@duraznoches I don't and it doesn't.
I think _KoF '99_ was the first console _KoF_ I played after _'98_ in the arcades; I loved the color edit mode.
I like the NESTS saga a bit better than the Orochi saga. That's just me.
I don't get the hate the NESTS saga gets. It's a pretty good storyline, had great games (with exception of 2001), and introduced boatloads of fan favorite characters.
I like Shermie more, and the Orochi saga a bit more, but my friend loves Nests saga.
I Like the NESTS saga too but the story is Poorly executed.
So, in this Terry Legacy videos so far:
Max playing Fatal Fury games: I like that!
Max playing KOFs games: Pisses me off!
Tbf the Fatal Fury series is great, and the cheese is kept to a minimum; while the KOF series tends to get harder with each entry; and the bosses get more ridiculously OP (IGNIZ!!!!)
He Always has To say Annoying Shit When Playing KOF Games
Mai's assist can be summarized as
She comes. She does nothing. *SHE LEAVES.*
She actually gives you meter, pretty useful in some situations
Pretty sure she does an uppercut if you summon her at short enough distance. I know she does that in KOF2000. Max never really got the opportunity.
That's her role in the main story of the KOF series.
Good to see Max going through the same I went when I was a teenager. Krizalid surprise, weird endings and hitboxes and everything.
Krazilid may be stupid looking but his final battle theme (Dear Falling Angel) bumpin'.
duraznoches i read that. Lol I dont think its that over done, maybe the feathers. But then when you compare him to Zero he looks simple.
What do you mean stupid looking? He's the most stylish boss in the series. Stop smoking that grass
I’ve been waiting for the NESTS bosses and I am not disappointed about what I have witnessed. Krizalid needs to be in KOF 15.

He knows how to play with Terry, but he can play decently with Kyo, Iori and surprisingly Joe.
