Hearing about Dr. Doofenshmirtz having ADHD, I’m just reminded of that one episode where he wanted to launch Big Ben to right next to his building. All because he didn’t want to go through the hassle of going to the store, find a parking space and picking through dozens of styles of watches or wall clocks.
That weirdly does make more sense for him, since he’s way more interested and focused in inventing than boring errands

Another canonically autistic character that I love is Donnie from ROTTMNT, I don’t think he was mentioned in the video? bc it’s mostly focused on Disney shows which is so fair tbh but I am SO normal about teenage mutant neurodivergent turtles like the past few iterations of Mikey are canonically ADHD, Rise Donnie and Mutant Mayhem Leo are confirmed autistic, and really the argument could be made for almost any turtle in any iteration being neurodiverse in some capacity. But Rise Donnie is my favorite because instead of trying to “cure” him or “make him better” his whole story arc is about taking confidence in himself for who he is and learning how to approach emotional vulnerability in a way that makes sense to him. Heck his mystic powers end up being a hybrid of magic and tech, which is an incredible metaphor for him learning to be more emotionally open on his own terms and also it’s arguably the coolest mystic power of the 4 brothers!!! Watching rottmnt made me realize how being nd affects every aspect of my life and that it’s not inherently a bad thing that needs to be fixed, just something to work around occasionally and something to embrace as a part of me! I love my brain, I may not always like how I function but I still love who I am and wouldn’t trade it for anything. :]

The part about Marcy was heart-wrenching to watch. She’s one of the most relatable characters I’ve ever come across and this video reminded me why. I, too, had a hard time leaving Amphibia behind. I managed to hold myself together while watching the finale, but as soon as it ended, I went to my room, FaceTimed my BFF, and cried so hard that she had to pull her car over. May I suggest: Bill Green and Lawrence Fletcher! I read them both as autistic.
    Bill Green:
    -special interest is farming
-Is very particular about the way his food tastes (ex. Calling vanilla ice cream “spicy”)
-that one time he got super hyperfixated on a farming video game and couldn’t shift his attention away from it (has definitely happened to me)
-Doesn’t like big changes or taking big risks (ex. When he didn’t want to jump in the cold water and instead suggested “How about I put my sandwich in the freezer and eat it cold??”- my autistic partner and I quote this all the time lol)
-that episode where Cricket goes feral and Bill tries to explain to Cricket that living in society requires having to control yourself in specific ways (*cough* masking *cough*) and Cricket responds with “Why not do what Bill want?” And then they both go feral
(It’s been a long while since I’ve watched Big City Greens so I could be forgetting some things)
    Lawrence Fletcher:
-“Fossils! Da da da...” on repeat is a verbal/audio stun if I’ve ever heard one
    -special interest in antiques
-a “mid-life crisis” for Lawrence is trying a different flavor of tea
-idk how to explain it but just... the way he is
Also, Tilly is so much like autistic little me as a child. The way she’s more connected to animals than humans, the way she runs with her arms straight to her side, all of her quirks... they just make me think “yeah, that was definitely me as a kid.”

Seeing Julia react to the fire truck really stuck with me because when that episode came out I was way past the age of watching Sesame Street, (like past high school) yet I still felt seen. Or heard I guess lol. And as far as the dog thing goes, I'm still partial to cats, but Bluey has really softened my opinion on dogs. And Jack is such a good representation of ADHD!

1:04:11 I definitely know how Marcy felt with that helmet lowered on her head. I felt the same way at Stitch’s Great Escape. They had those very uncomfortable shoulder restraints that hurt sooo bad. I felt sooo uncomfortable with the restraints lowering on us…I had that same uncomfortableness Marcy had. The moment the helmet lowered, I got Stitch’s Great Escape flashbacks when the restraints lowered, I got so scared.
I have autism as well, and that attraction and episode was overstimulating. I thought TRON Lightcycle Run was gonna feel like Stitch’s Great Escape, but it actually felt like Avatar Flight Of Passage, very comfy. On most Disney and Universal rides, I wear noise canceling headphones on a lot of rides, but some rides are not that noisy for me, like The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Dumbo The Flying Elephant, Living with the Land, Gran Fiesta Tour feat. The Three Caballeros, Alien Swirling Saucers, Triceratop Spin, Festival of the Lion King, Kang and Kodos Twirl n Hurl, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, and The Dr Seuss Trolley Train Ride.
You made an amazing video right there. Best video EVER. I subbed to your channel! 🥰👏

    • @SunnylandProds
      @SunnylandProds  2 місяці тому +2

I think those restraints did bring an appropriate sense of unease and discomfort for a really effective psychological horror attraction, (Alien Encounter) but definitely less so for a Stitch attraction. I only did Stitch a couple of times and I don’t have a strong memory of the restraints, but then again, I still can’t stand the seat poke and crawling effects on Tough to Be a Bug, so I think my sense of touch is still dialed up to a 12.
Honestly, I think that’s the main reason I like balloons so much, it’s the tactile way they feel!

I used to be, mainly because of Hopper, the Spiders, and the Stinkbug smell, but it’s not scary for me anymore, but however I still stand up at the hornet part, but I do stay seated when the bugs exit the theater bumping the bottoms of the seats, which doesn’t poke too badly, the hornets kinda feel like a…probably like a spiky touch or an allergy skin test. To be honest, I’m sad that that show is leaving soon, like I’d rather have Zootopia next to Rafiki’s Planet Watch, like once you’re off the train, go left for Rafiki, or right for Zootopia. That way they can include both the show AND the ride from Shanghai. Even though I also love Indy and Encanto, I don’t want the Dinosaur stuff to leave! I hope that, as we continue getting representation, that we’re able to fully move past the ‘autistic savant’ and ‘only the nerdy/science-obsessed characters can be autistic’ mindsets. Characters like Bill Green and Raph from Rise of the TMNT feel so much more relatable to me as autistic rep through both their traits and their struggles, and given that autism is truly a spectrum, it’s always good to have that variety in interests and traits, as well as in the age/gender/ethnicity of the characters as you said.

Yeah! Raph just has those vibes to me. He hyperfixates on wrestling and bears, having what others may see as ‘childish’ interests (I.e. his teddies) and phobias (Mrs. Cuddles/puppets), and he tends to stim a lot by shaking or pumping his fists. He’s on the more emotional side of the spectrum, often reacting with tears or yelling when he’s REALLY feeling passionate or intensely about something, being more likely to have meltdowns than the other turtles.
What I really relate to though are his communication quirks - namely when he says stuff that makes perfect sense to him but no one else (“yeah, but when I was his age, I was two years old!”) or when he overexplains himself to avoid being misunderstood (his whole bit with explaining what a week was in the ep Pizza Pit”). There’s other small examples and things I relate to, but these are the ones off the top of my head.

I just thought of something from my past that was so autistic of me. I was diagnosed at age 4 and went to a special education school from ages 12-15, but even there, I stuck out like a sore thumb.
My school uniform shirt had blue, green, and red variants. Every morning, upon entering homeroom, I would see what color shirts everyone was wearing, and if they fit into one of the following categories, it would be a specific “shirt day”:
All one color- Green/Blue/Red shirt day
All green or blue- Earth shirt day
All green or red- Christmas shirt day
Since there were only 4-5 kids per class and red shirts weren’t very popular, there would be a specific shirt day rather frequently. However, if all but one student aligned with a certain shirt day, I would call out the person who “ruined” it. For example, this one time, everyone in our class wore a blue or green shirt except for a kid named Sergio, and I exclaimed, “Sergio! You ruined Earth shirt day!”
And this continued until I stopped going to that school _halfway through 10th grade._ How the heck did people put up with me and my blatant autism?!

My uncle has a 2nd degree autism, he has speech issues despite being really sociable and very kind.
On the other hand, if it wasn't because of his HIGH sensitivity to loud noises (even a dog bark disturbs him) no one could notice he was autistic.

As someone with ADHD(somewhere in the middle with "severity" not sure what the correct word is) the filter most people have is just non existent if I am thinking something its gonna come out of my mouth wether I want that to happen or not.
For some reason I tend to be really weird when it comes to loud noises I think it depends on who or what is making it I'm not sure(whether I have taken my medicine definitely impacts my reaction)but generally I will react in one of these ways : not care, want to yell back at whoever is making noise, or get as far away from the noise as possible.
18:26 Its kind of baffling that there are people who think that "Disorders" like ADHD and ASD are wrong and need to be fixed. Any currently documented disorder has existed since humans have existed it makes sense. Take ADHD a main trait I immediately think of, and I see with myself, is multi taksing aspect(which can more easily be done because the brain is sending signals faster than average). From what I know our distant ancestors brains were likely structured slightly different but I assume ADHD still existed if you think about it being able to multitask would lead to that individual having a higher fitness(is less likely to be killed). Someone with ASD and or better knowledge of the disorder could make a better argument than I could for how individuals with ASD would also have a higher fitness when humans were hunter gathers.

First off, I just wanted to say thanks for making this video! I love June and Marcy because I relate to them so much! As someone with autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia, I feel seen and heard. I can see that June's character was made so well and full of love! They have researched and got someone with autism to play her, and she did a fantastic job! I wish we see more of her, especially with Darryl! The fact he listened to her and remembered the item she needed to complete the Phantom Canister and the fact Darryl made an effort and extraordinary lengths to not only listen to her but act in it and got her the final piece, effectively saving the freaking world! Also, Darryl has ADHD for sure, and I see the signs. I love that the shows made this an episode of acceptance and understanding because Darryl has his spark and expresses himself in incredible ways. Darryl is a good kid, and I think the teachers and principal need to understand he is just expressing himself.
As for Marcy, I relate to her in that I feel scared to share my hiperfunciónes in cartoons, animation, Tgamm, Guinea PigsGenia, and squishy stuffed animals. They know a few but not as many of my favorite shows like Amphibia, Owl House, The Ghost, and Molly McGee because I fear they may not like them or they do what Marcy's friends did, just straight up ignore them. I'm not saying they need to like them, but I'm just scared they will understand why I love them. The only one in my family who at least understands is my sister, who loves Gravity Falls, and I convinced her to watch Amphibia. By the way, she loves it.
For my own life, I need to advocate for my needs and ask for help when I need it. I'm very fortunate and blessed to have been in a loving family that will take the time to help me in school and now college. It was not easy, especially when I was young, due to my meltdowns at school and stress. But they were there to help me feel accepted, like a human being, and not some burden. And I thank God every day for that!
If you have a disability, please listen to my advice; don't let anyone say your disability is a curse. It's a gift! A gift that you have to make them your wings and fly with the birds in the sky! Make them your wings and show the world who you are and what you can achieve! Don't be after to ask for help when things get hard, and when you need to advocate for your needs, speak to those you know will help you. We are all in this together, and we are all stars. And we're not the same; we're different in a good way; we make each other strong...wait for, that's High School Musical, lol! But still. Now, I hope you have a great day, and God bless! 😁😁😁

I really admire this video, and you did this very well. I really like these headcanons on characters being Autisic and/or have ADHD. I can see Tina from Bob's Burgers definately being autistic, with how she acts. Doofenshmirtz, I actually never thought of him having ADHD, to be honest lol.
I'm also on the spectrum and can relate to some of these examples. Loud noises, used to bother me. Some still do, but some don't really bother me anymore. Fixations is another one. One of mine are elevators. There's just something about them, they're just really cool, especially old elevators. I also struggled with social skills when I was a kid, which I have since improved on. There are a few other things about this I could also relate, but that's all I got right now lol.

I’m watching (at least the first part of) this right after having therapy and it’s just really interesting to me because that’s kinda what I talked about today, how I feel like sometimes I just need help expressing that I need help. Everyone always says “communicate! Advocate for yourself!” But what am I supposed to do when the trouble I’m having IS communicating? And the attitudes autism speaks has? That’s a feeling I’ve continually been bringing up for weeks, that everyone kinda subconsciously sees you as a burden and that the things that make you YOU are wrong and need to be fixed. I have several disabilities, mental and physical, and sometimes it’s hard not to feel like people are just helping you with the expectation that you’ll just “get better” on your own and someday won’t need help anymore.

Finished the video now! Thank you so much for this. I was diagnosed with autism a little under a year ago at 26. It’s been very freeing and validating for me to finally know that about myself. I had a therapist who thought I had “Asperger’s” when I was in high school, but I refuted it, wanting to prove I could be “the way I was” without being disabled. Looking back, that was just my internalized ableism talking, because it kind of translates to “it’s ok to make fun of someone as long as they’re disabled,” when in reality, disabled or not, no one should be made fun of for who they are. I started pursuing a diagnosis over 3 years ago and was relieved to finally get to it last summer.
Like you, I have hyperfocused on animation and theme parks for most of my life, as well as Disney Channel. One of the shows that I’ve hyperfixated on the most has been Liv and Maddie and I headcanon Liv as autistic (naive, plays with her hands and hair, struggles to make friends, always wants to talk about her acting career even if others don’t wanna hear it, etc.) Darkwing Duck is among my my hyperfixations as well, so hearing that story about Bushroot made me super happy!
I also love Big City Greens and in particular the episode where they go to the library, especially because of the great ending in which Bill accepts Cricket’s need for visuals and is happy for him to read comic books and graphic novels. I don’t have ADHD, but I know its symptoms can overlap with autism, and reading for me got more challenging as I got older as there were more words, fewer pictures, and the subject matter became more mature while I was still into “kids’ stuff.”
Thank you again for this and all you do, keep it up! ❤

I'm autistic and there's so much I'd like to share here regarding my experience with the world, but I want to focus on 2 things.
First, I really hate that in the Argentinian dub of TGAMM they make June say she "is a person with autism". I know it's not the same for everyone and if anyone reading this has autism and doesn't identity with it that's okay, really, but autism is a big part of me and my identity and I was really looking forward to that little moment when I see someone who is like me in a show I love actually identifying herself as autistic. I remember a little back I was talking to someone else about autism as an identity and something that stood with me was that "I was stuck with the old way" because the "socially approved" te is person with autism . But that's just not true to me. I don't HAVE autism, it's not something alien to me or just a small part of me and my daily life it's not worth bringing up, it's not just a couple disabilities, a few quirks and a special ID, I AM autistic, I live autistic, I experience the world in an autistic manner, everything about me is shaped by autism, if I didn't "have" autism I won't just get a little different, I might as well be a totally different person. I WOULD NOT be me. And I think NT people often miss that.
The second thing I want to bring up is that, for a month now, I've been working on the census of my country, I've been for days on end going door to door surveying people and interacting with so many people. It's something that is way out of my confort zone. And it has been so much fun! It has also been a source of quiet stress and I constantly fear the day I won't be able to get up, or I have a meltdown, but so far the experience has been amazing. I don't think I ever had a problem interacting with people, but just like Marcy, I can count in one hand the number of people I feel I've genuinely connected with. And it has hurt every time I had to let go... Anyway, census fun! What am I going to do once it's over!?

My mind tends to focus on the negatives, though. Like how I got bit by a dog one month in and basically lost my job after that. (The case has been resolved, if you're asking. I'll probably keep the details to myself, though. Oversharing has led to... consequences.)

I'm autistic myself and I have so many headcanons! Most of them are from Pokémon (my main special interest) and across all forms of Pokémon media, from the games to the anime to the manga! Here's the list of Pokémon characters I headcanon as neurodivergent and what form of Pokémon media they come from.
Games: Red, N, Hop, Nemona, Penny, Kieran, Crispin (I actually see Hop and Nemona as AuDHD, and another character, Barry, is ADHD incarnate in my opinion)
Anime: Ash, Goh, Sawyer, Clemont, Liko, Roy, Dot (I actually see Ash and Roy as AuDHD)
Manga: Red, Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Black, Henry Sword, Casey Shield (with Red, Sapphire, Pearl, Black, and Casey Shield being AuDHD)
There's just so many Pokémon characters I can't help but see as autistic, ADHD, or AuDHD, and I love analyzing them on Tumblr, it's so much fun to do and really reminds me why I love these characters! As for other characters from other series, I also headcanon Branch from DreamWorks' Trolls franchise as autistic, ESPECIALLY in the 2D animated TV shows. And Poppy from the same franchise, I can't help but see as ADHD. Also Tails from Sonic is another autistic headcanon of mine, and Sonic himself is another ADHD headcanon of mine. I could go on because I see it in so many characters but I'm gonna stop here because I've rambled on enough already...😅

I like balloons and decorating with ribbons. My preference is balloons as decor, but I will pop them if a friend says that they like noise. I was just thinking "I like the idea of people who smile at a balloon popping, but I'll be quiet if that's what they want that too."

Should’ve gotten Darryl’s voice actress to join June’s for the roller coaster thing you’re making.

June Chen is someone who i'd have definitely befriended in Middle School. And the on-screen representation i wish i had growing up in the late 2000s.

Growing up autistic for me was easier than being an autistic adhd anxiety depressed. Because theres that buffer zone of “oh theyre just a weird kid” but when your an adult, theres no excuse that will make people happy. The combination of mental disorders that i have make it nearly impossible to be independent. And as a kid i had support because i was a child. As an adult theres nothing like that. No employer is going to hire a person who both cant start something nor finish it without constant motivation. I understand im different and i embrace it to some degree. But at the same time i just want to be better. More profuctive. Less distrected and stressed all the time.

Got diagnosed later than most people, and the balloon tangent was so relatable. Maybe not specifically balloons, but more generally the idea of controlling noise. Loud crowds and fireworks? Nope no way. Listening to my own music, trying to find the background music playing in the Japan pavillion at Epcot? Syncing music on my headphones with a ride I’m on? The best.

I kinda like the fact that most of the time...we see female characters having autism( i will just talk about autism....because i know more about this subject than ADHD ) . Because for a long time , autism was considered as a " boy thing" . Because a girl that was more sensible....looked more normal than a boy . Now, autism is known for not being an only boys thing . But really i like that detail ( even tho maybe they didnt think of this ...still is cool tho)

I’ve rarely seen a video like this where I feel so…seen. And judging by the (mostly) sane-for-a-change comments section, I can see you moved a great many other people too, Chandler. You handled this topic well and you did a great job incorporating your personal experiences too. Agatha’s rant was perfect, and I love how much, well, love you showed to the various characters and shows who got this kind of representation right. I really can’t praise this video enough. Thank you so much for all the work you put into this 😊💖🌈🎈
