The station is so much improved with the demolition of the 60s office block.

I appreciate these videos a lot. My grandparents were all born in Middlesbrough from 1870 to 1880 and my parents before 1914. I was born in 1930s. Worked in Middlesbrough till 1956. Last visited Redcar 2019. Change is inevitable!

    Nice one Stephen,
The stag off-licence was on other corner of Simpson street owned by Wintershladen,
My father worked down the street at GW Drinkwater Haulage as a heavy motor machanic many years ago.

Hello Stephen. Always enjoy your videos having lived away from Middlesbrough for over 40 years. Fascinating to see the old photo of Lawson Infant School. My father was a maths teacher and used to teach at Lawson. When I was 4, he took me to pre school nursery school there. I always thought Dad taught seniors but only references I ever found to Lawson was to an infant school so did it also used to be a senior school or was there another senior school nearby?

Hi Roger, Lawson was originally a boys infant and junior school whereas the girls went to Derwent Street school. Later they both became mixed sex schools. Further up Smeaton Street on South Bank Road was Lawson Senior school.
