I lived in Beecham Street, and Diamond Street in the 60s. Went to St Peters Normanby Road and the people were the best ever. I've been traveling back twice a year ever since, to take in the nostalgia and the great memories. Tony Flannigan, Shaggy, Clive Bennett and all the old school friends, their memory stays with me. It was the greatest place ever. I have lived in China for 11 years. I attend grave at the cemetery at Eston. I hope that's were I can return. South Bank... the best place ever.

Becoming an "adopted" son of South Bank when getting married in 1968, the following almost 6 years living there were the happiest I have known...The people were fantastic...The shops you could buy anything you wished for....Having visited my beloved ex homeland recently I was shocked to see how the place had turned out. The heart has been ripped out of a thriving community
South Bank has become a sad state of affairs, I was 7 when I moved there and lived there continuously until I was 19. There were ups and downs, but as a community we had a really good time. We had such sweet neighbours around us that you could rely on one another. And this was early 1990s-2001!!! Imagine the sweetness the further back in time you went!!!!
I also loved the 17 years of my life I lived there continuously, my dear father lived and died there (Jan 2020) . I have fond childhood memories of the place, as well as its close proximity to my darling Middlesbrough. Its such a shame it has gone from a remarkable and friendly place to a barren wasteland where shops and sweet neighbours are few and depression and loneliness is great. Now that my father is gone I dont even feel like going back there, it will haunt me even more :'(
We were hoping to return in the summer to put a younger persons point of view, but unfortunately he funds were not available so it remains rather bleaker than we intended!

Born there in 1950, even bought my first home in South Bank. Worked in the dockyard. Hard working area of Teesside who were continually let down and demoralized by Thatcher and other governments following her. So sad.
My father spent most of his working life at Dorman Long, and you could see the towers and work place from where we lived near Normanby Road. I still remember the large tower at night, with the bright orange flame, a beacon to show our dedicated and strong work force that kept the industry moving. I loved that flame more than the Olympic Torch or Statue of Liberty.

An old war era house we moved into...The corner shop was 2 houses away...We had everything we needed....Paul Daniels lived in the next street from us and my eldest brother went to school with Martin.. Back then people where simply people..Nothing like today...No hatred back then & bullying was hardly heard of...Simple, Pleasureable times..Gone but not forgotten...💔😥
I went to south bank once looking for a burnt out car for the garage I worked for , couldn’t find it but there was this pub with bars and shutters all over the windows so I went over and it was actually open . I goes in and everyone stopped talking and looked at me lol I asked the fella behind the bar if he’s seen a burn out car , he started to laugh and told me the kids burn them out and then a fella with a recovery wagon goes around picking them up and weighing them In lol
Not only has South Bank been torn to pieces, but our hearts have as well. No wonder people suffered (and still are suffering) from anxiety, unemployment, lack of social interaction and general uneasiness.
Why the hell did I leave this place?!?! The downfall of my father and South Bank makes me feel like a section of my heart has been destroyed. I was literally crying at the end of this movie...
Fast forward 11 years since this movie was made and no difference has been made to the landscape or happiness of the residents. My God, I didnt know there were three cinemas there in the past!!! I do know that the local post offices (one next to Asda, another surviving highlight of the area; another near Queen Street) were gotten rid of, to the dismay of elderly/disabled people (like my late father, who like many had to go into M'bro to pay his bills). This and many other facilities were razed to the ground, only to be replaced by nothing.
