The Pirate monkey boss battle was my favorite just cause of the bosses design, the setting, the music, and the boss himself being the most entertaining. The Star wolf battles are also pretty great since they can do everything you do making them more difficult to counter.

When I was little, the first time I saw Andros scared the living hell out of me. I could not fight him. I had to ask my sister to beat him. Thankfully, I did play again years later and beat him on hard mode.
Fichina (Fortuna) is the easiest to earn a medal in Star Fox 64 in both original and 3D versions since it only take 50 kill points, which in the lowest points to get a medal.
One detail I love is somewhat of the non spoken story telling about how the routes work. For example, in order to reach Area 6, you have to either go through Sector Z or get the train to crash in the fuel depot. Which implies that through Sector Z you sneaked your way to Venom's air defence and they are caught unaware, they knew Starfox was coming but not when or where so they are stretched thin, allowing a window. Meanwhile, the fuel depot is that most of their ships are grounded due to lack of fuel which allows a window through Area 6. Heck, to even get to Sector Z you have to not get spotted by any spotlight in Zoness, otherwise Andross' forces know where you are. The missiles in Z are pretty much blind fire from Andross' Forces in an attempt to stop you, even if they don't know where you are, if the Greatfox is damaged, even with the stretched lines, Fox is reluctant to risk it though Area 6. Failing either forces you to go through Bolse, the easier path, because Area 6 is too heavily fortified to go through.
The opening line if the Meteo boss has stuck in my mind for the past 20 years. "I cannot allow you to go any further." In that classy voice, just stating a fact. Such a badass way to introduce a boss fight.
It's insane how good the voice acting is(for such an old console), some of the voice actors for the bosses are really giving it all with their "death scream". Looked at some playthroughs of the newer Star Fox games, the voice acting is shite compared to this, so dull.
I remember the Saucerer fight blowing my mind the first time I saw it. It wasn't too long after _Independence Day_ came out, and it's very obviously a wink and nod to that movie. It seemed so wild to 9 year old me that this game was referencing something I had seen in theaters the year before. (And ironically enough, this one level was a much better _Independence Day_ video game than the actual _Independence Day_ video game, hahaha.) Good lord, I miss my N64. Lost it in a flood about ten years back, along with around 20 games. Same with all my other old-school consoles from when I grew up.
