  • BEFORE PICS OF THE HEMATOMA: drive.google.com/open?id=1L5H...
    Our dog Vic had a aeral hematoma on his ear flap which we had lanced & a cannula placed by our veterinarian. This video shows what to expect after your vet performs this procedure. Our vet advised the drain should stay in place for 10-15 days. Vic is also on a steroid & an antibiotic for the course of this recovery.

    Thank you for showing what your vet did for a drain. I have to bring my furkid in and I am hoping that they put in a drain instead of slicing her poor ear apart..

      I'm glad you found it helpful. If you believe your baby can tolerate the drain, I would push the vet to do it. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be & it all went very smoothly. It's funny how most.dogs just know the right things to do after having a medical procedure done. Wishing your pup a fast & smooth recovery! Sending wags & wiggles your way! Thanks for the comment.

    My dog had this done and it has now been removed by the vet! His ear started looking swollen at the site after removal. Is this normal? I wasn't really told anything but to keep the cone on for 5 days

    Have this exact same setup on my French Bulldog. But he squeals and yelps if I get anywhere near the thing. I simply don’t have the willpower to fight through those sounds and drain it. I don’t know what to do.

    Thank you for sharing. We drained our dogs hematoma at home and I’m still draining it everyday and it’s been about 2 weeks hoping it stops soon, it is however starting to get the shape of a cauliflower ear which I’d take over him going through surgery as he is a elderly dog. Anyway thank you for sharing

      Glad to hear your dog is on the mend. My boy ended up having it done on his other ear a few years later. Both ears have a slight touch of cauliflower ear, but nothing too bad. His ears look normal, they just feel a bit firm & bumpy here & there.(PS my boy turned 14 this past year! So I totally understand having an elderly dog. Also, my boy wasn't put under for either of the cannula placements or removals)
      So glad the video helped. That warms my heart. Thx for the comment! Hope you - yours stay safe & healthy!

      @@Klutzyduncan it really did. My boy does have a cauliflower ear and it’s definitely harder then his other ear but it doesn’t bother me cause that ear never really did stand up :) it’s still draining now but seems like we are finally gonna see the end soon. Thanks again.

    My dog just had the same exact tube inserted in his ear today he had a huge ear hematoma and ear infection but they put a big plastic cone around his head so he doesn't scratch at that tube and he absolutely hates tge cone so I wonder if I need to leave that Cone o or can I just wrap it with gauz

    • @Klutzyduncan
      @Klutzyduncan  2 роки тому

      We didn't use a cone both times our dog had this done. We bought some of the tubular gauze & used that. Just ensure you get a big enough size for your pet & I wouldn't leave them unattended with it on. My dogs ears are great now, a little bumpy but nothing like it was. He had it done on both ears a few years apart from one another.
      Wishing your dog a speedy recovery!
      PS frozen Kong's (stuffed with wet/canned dog food) are great for doggy recovery! 😉

    Is it supposed to be flat when you drain it? I've tried draining it but it was hard I don't know if that's normal..

      @Klutzyduncan  Рік тому

      I'm not a vet, but when I had to drain my dog's it was filled with fluid & yes, I was able to get it flat. I did not use much pressure to do so either. I'd say if it's hard, check with your vet. You might be feeling the tube or perhaps it's starting to heal.
      Best of luck!

    How do you drain it, my vet didn’t show me... do you pull the cap off or twist it off?

    • @Klutzyduncan
      @Klutzyduncan  2 роки тому

      The cap we had screwed off (we actually had it done a 2nd time on the other ear recently, again a successful procedure). If you have the same twist off cap, be sure to hold the piece that's IN the ear still as you twist the cap off. After you're done draining, don't put the cap on too tight as it'll be hard to get off next time you drain it. Have tissues ready to drain & then clean the cap before you put it back on. Good luck! Sending wags & wiggles your way! 🤗🥰

      As far as draining it (how I did it), I would grab some tissues & hold one near the cannula as I unscrewed the cap (as fluid will pour out sometimes) - be ready as soon as you start to unscrew the cap. I'd hold the tissue at the cannula opening & gently massage the area down towards the cannula opening. Having a finger on the front & back of the ear to move the fluid down towards the cannula also worked well (like you'd do with one of those toothpaste tube clips that push toothpaste out to the end, leaving a flattened empty tube. Obviously not with that much pressure though). Use light pressure, it doesn't take much to move the fluid down towards the cannula opening. Hope that helps.
      PS my vet didn't show us how to drain either, just explained how.

    My dog had a cone on and she keeps shaking the tube out idk what to do

    • @Klutzyduncan
      @Klutzyduncan  3 роки тому

      Please call your vet. You might want to try wrapping an ace bandage LIGHTLY around your dogs head & ears to keep the ear held down when shaking. This is if your dog will tolerate this & you're able to watch them while they have the ace bandage on.

    My dogs is 11 and just got this in his ear, they only gave pain killers no antibiotics.
    They said leave it to drain for 2 weeks but they never told me to do anything.

    • @Klutzyduncan
      @Klutzyduncan  3 роки тому

      I would call & ask your vet about antibiotics (perhaps there's a reason they didn't?), also ask about draining it (especially if your dog would tolerate you doing it). Vic didn't mind me draining it, it healed up great; no further issues since.

    My vet said she won't drain it unless she could do laser as well. F that.
