Last month I traded my flip 1 with Razr 1, I just love the design of Razr first gen..and with Android 11 update the cover screen is fully usable, so much fun ..
I have a Z4 and do like the Moto. I like the outer screen and a wider main screen (it does give the feel of more normal sized screen). The fold is also a lot less noticeable then the Z4. As for the software, we haven't seen what the European version has to offer, so the verdict is out. Having said this, I don't know if foldable phones are the future or are just a gimmick.
I think the" wideness" is welcome. Keeps the phone's aspect ratio in check (20:9). A less wide phone probably would've yielded (in my opinion) a needlessly tall aspect ratio. While I don't mind larger phones; taller phones have been the bane of my existence ever since manufactures decided to artificially claim bigger screen sizes within the same relative foot print
I absolutely agree... I dislike the Flip 4 for having that weird tall and skinny look and feel. I love the wide normal width of the RAZR. And I've gotten compliments to the contrary: People constantly tell me how they are surprised when I fold it.. because it looks like a regular size smart phone that folds to half the size and doesn't look like a makeup case.
Aspect ratio debates will never end, just because it's such a subjective area. For me, tall and narrow is where it's at. Silver lining: now there's more choice in the clamshell space (in some markets, anyway).
I have a friend who has the 2020 Razr and when they sent me a screenshot of something I realized that the LG V60 was taller in the aspect ratio side of things
Agree with every single work of yours @mrmobile. So sad to see Razor moving towards Zflip design... It's not a razor anymore no matter how good the specs are.
I completely agree with all of your comments and I find it sad that they completely abandoned their indivuality in favor of fitting in. I absolutely do not like the new razr at all aestheticcally compared to the 2019 and 2020 5g models. This switch to fit it more and look like a Samsung is exactly why I will never buy the new razr cause honestly if I wanted a Samsung I would just buy a Samsung cause of the better cameras, operating systems and availability. Motorola completely dropped the ball here with this new model and hopefully the sales aren't bad enough that they discontinue the model because I would love to see them go back to the older models with better operating systems, cameras and sleek original design
I upgraded from the v60 to the moto razr2022. I do see your points about what this phone isn't compared to previous models. I knew I wanted a foldable phone as an upgrade and the outer display was a huge selling point compared to Samsung's flip4. I use the outer display for quick calculator access for my job and messages when I need to quick message someone if I don't want to ruin movie experience for others. My biggest worry was it's an overseas phone. And I was told at&t and Verizon wouldn't be compatible. But I just popped in the sim card and thank God it worked. Your absolutely right about the software. It is buggy, and just like you said in video, the personalization app won't open for me either 😭. Personally, I use a different home launcher than the stock it comes with so it helps with my own personal customization.
@Bas Hartman sadly enough, I had to trade it in about a week ago. 😫 everything about that phone was perfect. The display, the power behind the phone, the 120hrz display everything. What killed it, unfortunately, was a simple bug. Group text messaging. Forwhatever reason, I noticed that I was missing out on conversations or I wasn't receiving the full messages in group messages. I thought It was just the app I was using but I used every messaging app known on the app store and each had a group messaging problem. I called Verizon and they knew it was an overseas phone and couldn't really do much except keep telling me to try another app. But in the end it just got frustrating. Who knew just a basic task as group messaging would kill the experience for me. Traded it in for Fold4 (cuz I wasn't gonna go back to a Candy bar Phone). About 2 weeks ago. Haven't looked back sense
Two things I really liked about the RAZR 5g that Samsung did not have.. 1) the bottom "chin" 2) the ability to do most things from the cover screen. My RAZR 5g died this year... I've moved over to the Samsung flip 4 because it's Easter proof. If the RAZR had the chin, I'd have gotten that .. But now the RAZR looks like the flip 4, I went for the flip. So the cover screen, natively, the flip 4 is very limited but with third party apps I can now use it for most things except writing text. The RAZR 2022 is no longer line the old RAZR , now it is just a Samsung with less pros than the Samsung
It was heartwarming to see the QM2 in the vid. I used to work on it, been to New York quite a few times actually. I just wish I could've met you when I was there.
Just from an engineering standpoint to get better battery life, internal cooling and performance it has to be a bit fatter. I think i certainly prefer that form factor to the flip. Not getting a full tablet like the fold but mitigating the main downside of chunky phablets by keeping it small in the pocket. Heavily considering one because moto lets you load whatever OS you want for long term use.
After receiving delivery of my razr 22 I can easily say I love it. To be able to reply to messages (with whatever text I want) from the cover screen is a win in any book. The phone feels solid, screen is great and camera is great (not excellent). I’m more than happy to use this day to day.
It's a shame to see the RAZR-esque design gone and just following the Z Flip trend now. Still, an interesting foldable, while it's not for me, I'm glad to see continuation of more foldable.
For comparison, Samsung 256gb flip4 is £1000. I've been using the China release RAZR for over 2 months. Overall a better phone than the flip4. Aesthetically it could do with a little refinement and the minor software bugs need ironing out. Main camera has potentioal. with a few updates it'll be running as smoothly as a flip. The one major feature that the RAZR needs, is to allow regular widgets on the outer display. That'd be a game changer. For example you could have sports scores or a fitness tracker displayed.
I own the Razr 5G and while I hate Android with a passion, I just can't get enough of the beautiful design. I couldn't be more disappointed with this new Razr. The design of the Razr 2019 and Razr 5G is what convinced me to switch from iPhone. The new Razr looks like a normal candybar phone folded in half, just like the all the others, the quirkiness is totally gone.
Great review as always! Disappointed that the design is no longer RAZR like, It does look like the older Z Flip.. strange they omit wireless charging.. but the larger external screen and larger MP camera are pluses.. not enough to make me swap out my Z Flip 4
"until Apple came along no one mattered more in mobile than the company that built the first cell phone" yeah maybe in the states but for the rest of the world it was Nokia. Motorola wasn't that important globally. The Razor was popular and iconic though.
I saw this video in my feed and got really excited for an updated RAZR, then I saw the updated "RAZR." Motorola got rid of the one thing the RAZR had over the Samsung, the unique and for old people like me (36) nostalgic look!
I nearly had a heart attack for you at 7:46 when you're holding it over the ocean with one hand and recording yourself holding it over the ocean with the other.
Totally agree with you. When I bought my Razr 5G, I knew that it was a technically inferior phone compared to the Flip, but the flip felt like a generic phone that happens to fold in half. I liked the Razr's distinctive retro-future design.
Having used this as my daily driver for a month now, I will say that it is maybe my favorite phone I have ever owned. Yes, I don't like the design as much as my Razr 5G, and yes, the fact that I was impatient and ordered the Chinese version does create some problems (Android Auto will not work for example), I still like this way more than the ZFlip3. I have the 5G, which I loved, but unfortunately it's not a particularly good phone (no service in my office on Verizon when all my other phones had no troubles) and switched to the Samsung. I never could enjoy the Z3 - the gutter is distracting, I hate the aspect ratio of it, and I don't really love the Samsung interface. The Razr 2022 has pretty much solved all of those issues. A total winner in my book. By the way, a decent looking cover makes the giant outside "picture frame" look go away.
Thanks for the review Cap'n 2 Phones ! I seriously believe that Sammy needs competition in north America. Or else we're just gonna be stuck with iterative upgrades from them. Hope other players enter the chat soon !
In terms of the form factor, I think there's probably only so much Motorola can do with the technology involved. That's the only reason I can think of they would make it so much like the Flip.
Mr mobile makes the best reviews even though sometimes the product doesn’t interested me his reviews I still watch them because he makes it sound so interesting. He should be a salesman for tech companies.
I will give Motorola credit, at least they're trying to make the new Razr work, could've at least tried to keep more of the original asthetic while updating, but hopefully with their next model they'll have ironed out the issues with this one.
Even without reading the comments, i'm sure many here would share my sentiment, & agree with your subjective views on the phone. While i do laud the improved functionalities of the new iteration (i really REALLY don't wanna call it a Razr), i sure as hell lament its loss of individuality. As great as this new Moto foldable is in terms of function, it sure as hell has no business carrying the Razr branding.
Michael, you must have seen the "cover launcher" app by now? It adds full app functionality to the Z Flip series, at least in some capacity. I've watched UA-cam, and even played full on 3D games on the Z flip 3's cover screen. Definitely stuff I wish I coulda done from the start!
Glad to see the improvements, but I'm pretty disappointed with the design of the phone itself. Maybe it's just my nostalgia talking, but I vastly prefer the look of the RAZR 5G.
I just got it.. It's huge. Great when closed but huge open. The crease is really noticeable and you can feel it. Great phone tho!! I'm keeping it. Giztop $1,100... Delivered in 5 days. It's the Chinese version... You can switch to English and it works great on Verizon. The Bluetooth indoor isn't as solid as my s21 ultra.
this is why I chose this for my second phone over the flip and the newer razr 40. I already have a z fold 4 but am curios about the motorolla desktop mode. The only thing this is not packing is the stylus pen but I have enough things that can manage.
Great honest review as always Michael, I am a big fan of Motorola.. have always been , but I agree this design didn't sit with me well! They should have kept the same design element from the previous Razr's so that the new one didn't look somewhat similar to Samsung
While I understand and share the frustration a fellow Razr aficionado would feel, it is a move in the right direction as the last design wouldn't have been capable of handling a larger battery or a deeper, better camera. The fact that the older design worked in old days is because we didn't have such camera or battery burdens on our devices.
There are ways of making a fatter phone not look so fat & vice versa. That's why design itself is something worth studying in the first place. Motorola could have kept design cues from the last Razr & at least still make it look sleek & stylish to a certain extent, despite still having to use fatter dimensions. Now with just boring squares & muted designs, it's just a fat phone EMPHASIZING the fact that it's fat.
The chin design was way better in the RAZR 2020, the silver RAZR 2020 paired with the curved edges made it my favorite looking modern flip phone apart from the flip 3. They should've kept the curves and chin.
I wish people would stop bashing on wide phones... Yes, a wider phone will make one-handed usage more difficult some of the time but a slimmer phone will make double-handed usage difficult all of the time, especially when typing as you have to intermesh your fingers behind the phone and painfully curve your thumbs to use the ever-smaller keyboard even when set at max-height.
The phone just needed a better industrial design team to execute a good successor to the razr from years before, a team who cared what the nomenclature stood for.
While I agree with everything here, I'm still very glad this exists for two very important reasons: 1. The outside screen makes it infinitely more useful than the Samsung Flip 2. Competition in the west, to a very stagnant and comfortable Samsung P.S. Launchers only change the launcher, not the system. Changing the system requires a custom ROM, which is somewhat cumbersome and risky (and definitely voids your warranty) but historically speaking Motorola phones have seen very active development from launch until up to a decade after the phone's release date. This (or the next model) will be a compelling upgrade from my Pixel 5 now that the Pixel family has gone in a direction I'm not too excited about (under the screen fingerprint sensor).
what a great video.. 10/10 for keeping up with the foldable content michael.. Lets hope these companies give you something to be really excited about next year lol
Mr Mobile: Moto sells the Razr's soul to fit for fight Samsung The entirety of Windows Phone: first time? I mean, even at this day, nothing beats the Metro design, Joe B. did sold the soul to become Android-like, cue the setting screen between pre-Mango and W10M =[ and back to the razr, the wide proportion is weird but understandable as a ex- razr 5G owner, the narrowness is a pratical down side when use it day by day
The comical wideness makes this a very easy to use and see phone. Loving it. Coming from the very narrow Z3 Flip. Wish Moto would offer wide and narrow options for their phones.

Last month I traded my flip 1 with Razr 1, I just love the design of Razr first gen..and with Android 11 update the cover screen is fully usable, so much fun ..
This was the phone I was waiting for because I loved the throwback to old-school flip phones in the first gen
You might want to look for something else.
@@DenienN yes I know
I have a Z4 and do like the Moto.
I hate to say it but when I replace my Razr 5G, I'll pick up a Z Flip. This new Razr design is disappointing.
@@ivanarellano1207 exactly
I think the" wideness" is welcome. Keeps the phone's aspect ratio in check (20:9). A less wide phone probably would've yielded (in my opinion) a needlessly tall aspect ratio. While I don't mind larger phones; taller phones have been the bane of my existence ever since manufactures decided to artificially claim bigger screen sizes within the same relative foot print
totally agree. the ratio of the z flip 3 was ridiculous. the 4 is slightly better.
Still miss the old design of the first two Motorolas.
Motorola dipped the Razr into an unhealthy dose of Blandness Sauce. Wow. Great review as always, Michael! Cheers, //Rick
How is it holding up after a couple of months? I'm interested in the 2022 RAZR
Kinda wish they'd keep the legacy design of the 19' RAZR and just kinda improve on it's weakest points
I've been waiting for this!
Been waiting for the only review that matters! Señor Mobile!
I miss the Razr 2020's design so badly, especially in silver :(
It was heartwarming to see the QM2 in the vid.
Still, an interesting foldable, while it's not for me, I'm glad to see continuation of more foldable.
as of the 27th Oct, the 256gb model can be had for £855 in the UK directly from motorola's website.
£950 list price - 10% newsletter sign up promo
It'd be an absolute masterpiece indeed, If these specs were in Razr 5G form :/
Hands down the best hands on reviews - as a UK resident I love the New York walkabouts as well.
There's an art to the way you produce your videos that I've always admired (e.x. 4:25 - it's very creative and takes proper planning)
9:56 Legitimately thought this was a giant Razr monument 😂😂
Great shot !
So any word, when this phone is coming to the great old USA ??
Great review as always! Disappointed that the design is no longer RAZR like, It does look like the older Z Flip.. strange they omit wireless charging.. but the larger external screen and larger MP camera are pluses.. not enough to make me swap out my Z Flip 4
Yeah this is the Motorola Flip 4
"until Apple came along no one mattered more in mobile than the company that built the first cell phone" yeah maybe in the states but for the rest of the world it was Nokia. Motorola wasn't that important globally. The Razor was popular and iconic though.
I saw this video in my feed and got really excited for an updated RAZR, then I saw the updated "RAZR." Motorola got rid of the one thing the RAZR had over the Samsung, the unique and for old people like me (36) nostalgic look!
Nostalgia can drive sales only so far!
@@sexyscientist They should have named it anything else then.
@@EricBWI262 I vote for moto rokr.
YEAH BAYBEEEE LET'S GOOOOOO more folding phones. The fun phone will rise yet again!
I feel like the USP for me was the classic razr shape… cannot believe they dropped it with this new model
I will admit, I was a bit scared of durability after getting a Flip 4, but mine's been perfect so far.
Company: Improves their product
MrMobile: Yeah nah bro they copying Samsung.
Honestly not the best opener, could've thought about that a bit more
Wait, no wireless charging at that price? That seems like an odd thing to omit.
classic Motorola
11:13 Motorola Mobility was acquired by Lenovo in 2014, so its not an American icon anymore.
Mr mobile makes the best reviews even though sometimes the product doesn’t
interested me his reviews I still watch them because he makes it sound so interesting. He should be a salesman for tech companies.
great work... as always!!! Flip on!
Been waiting for your review on this one
Knew that it'll come but I thought you would be one of the first ones
Anyway thanks
That design reminds me more of the Blade than the Razr.
Mr. Mobile is the Tony Stark of the tech review community. Been watching his reviews for the past 5+ years. Even got the wife watching as well 😂
Thank you for another thorough and honest review. Keep up the great work!
I prefer the 2021 look!.
I will give Motorola credit, at least they're trying to make the new Razr work, could've at least tried to keep more of the original asthetic while updating, but hopefully with their next model they'll have ironed out the issues with this one.
I was looking for the lighter, sleeker, sexier razr, but they focused on the spec sheet. I guess they can't make everyone happy.
If they stripped out the design of the razr, why would I ever get this over a galaxy z flip 4?
I think I'll just stick with my RAZR 2020 version. I like the chin.
0:30 But, what about the first but *messy* Galaxy Fold ?? It came before and was mass marketed too, right ?
Great video as always !
flip phones, weirdo, flip phones
@@baoquoc3710 0:32 "foldable", weirdo, "foldable"
@@games2507 well, neither of those are mainstream ready, anyway.
The fact that this Razr has USB-C 3.1 with wired video output and Ready For Desktop Mode is already enough for me to take this over Samsung's Z Flip.
this is why I chose this for my second phone over the flip and the newer razr 40.
Welcome back, Captain! 🫡
The chin design was way better in the RAZR 2020, the silver RAZR 2020 paired with the curved edges made it my favorite looking modern flip phone apart from the flip 3. They should've kept the curves and chin.
I appreciate your work. You are the best at what you do.
The wrestling clip was a superior "da fuq?" addition to the review. Kudos!
@MrMobile have you reviewed this again with the european software from this reviewed version? would you still reccomend this or wait for the Ultra 40?
The phone just needed a better industrial design team to execute a good successor to the razr from years before, a team who cared what the nomenclature stood for.
The most motorola phone was re-raise,but i love to wait when just motorola ROKR born for the third time
I like mr.mobile's reviews because it has so much depth and emotion with good story telling
While I agree with everything here, I'm still very glad this exists for two very important reasons:
1. The outside screen makes it infinitely more useful than the Samsung Flip
2. Competition in the west, to a very stagnant and comfortable Samsung
Hmmm, they definitely went in the wrong direction and didn't really listen to feedback. The previous Razr was a fantastic dose of nostalgia.
"an American icon that's not in America"
That hits hard
what a great video.. 10/10 for keeping up with the foldable content michael.. Lets hope these companies give you something to be really excited about next year lol
Does the Razr 2022 work with new verizon LTE? Im digging this phone.
Along with Morgan Freeman and the Narrator of Stanley Parable, Michael Fisher would be a great narrator of someone's life on a day-to-day basis
Hahaha, I've always thought of that. Very alike. Brilliant observation ☝
Mr Mobile: Moto sells the Razr's soul to fit for fight Samsung
The entirety of Windows Phone: first time?
I mean, even at this day, nothing beats the Metro design, Joe B. did sold the soul to become Android-like, cue the setting screen between pre-Mango and W10M =[
and back to the razr, the wide proportion is weird but understandable
as a ex- razr 5G owner, the narrowness is a pratical down side when use it day by day
where are you getting those colorful wallpapers?
What is that leather desk pad with a cable? 2:07
The comical wideness makes this a very easy to use and see phone. Loving it. Coming from the very narrow Z3 Flip. Wish Moto would offer wide and narrow options for their phones.
Yay, Mr Mobile teaching people about the importance of Motorola in the cellphone world ! (not that everyone shouldn't know that by now, it's mandatory). Cool to hear they run a luxurious processor in there now. Love the notifications unfolding to a bigger preview in the half-bent state of phone. Respect for knowing Shakespeare's quotes right out of the bat ;)

2:06 is that green supposed to be there?
I don't blame them for confirming to the market. Look at what happened to Nokia and Blackberry when they decided to do their own thing. Companies need money to survive, and they need to do something that people would buy to earn that cash
What about releasing 2 flip phones, moto razr and moto rokr?
1:41 which phone is that? The one with the cream/biege color?
I completely agree with your review.
The worst part about the phone is the software, they just can't compete with the best.
