I'm a Chinese, I really don't like fake stuffs from my country. But I have to say I was surprised that fake knives can be way better than what i thought they were😂😂
Les can you offer any advice on locating specific copy models on dhg or Ali? Are all the ones on there the same quality? I’ve noticed lots of variation in price on there, some of them of a certain type will be $12, another, same type will be $25, etc.
Hi, none of the dragonflies were any good. To find Spyderco knives, search by model number like an Endura would be a search for "C10 knife" Endura's are C10 something. C36 for Militarys I think. C56 for a Southard. C81 for Para 2, etc. You have to spend at least $15-20 to get anything worth having on anything they(China) make. I scrutinized the pictures a lot.
bubble wrap, black foam it fits the box perfectly though.. but it has a warranty card information, i came here to make sure my spyderco pacific salt was legit, and i see it is.
I have what seems like a spyderco dragonfly 2 salt..I'm guessing it is a clone as the top of the blade does not have the chamfer. I have had it for approximately 10yrs, cutting fruit..The hollow ground blade has no rust whatsoever and is as good as when i first purchased it. Even the H1 etching is unblemished. I had always wondered if my Ebay purchase was genuine and at least now i know...Thanks Les...
Sorry to hear that! Glad I could help. If you don't have any rust and the knife works OK, I'd say you at least have a serviceable knife to use. Dragonflys are great knives! Delicas are my EDC
@@lesgarten LOL..If you're out hunting in the bush and hours from anywhere,no one would make a fuss..Walk into a shopping centre or into a pub with a huge bowie strapped to your belt and you will definitely have a problem.
@@lesgarten thanks! one of my pivot screws came out..Also do you know if the engraving is supposed to be stamped or laser etched? I dont have any stamped impressions on mine
@@meegssan5716 I think I have like 5 Salts. Two of them are Dragonflys. They take a nice edge. The pivot is a T-8. Both sides of the bolster area are stamped, Seki City, etc. The only thing that is Lasered is the Large H-1 Logo on the blade face left side.
@@lesgarten Oh nooo! I recently bought one on amazon from a seller called Onkata. Everything checks out as you have mentioned as far as it being real except the triangle at the tip of the spider logo that is on the box is completely gray/white (whereas the one you have is half black and half gray, but maybe something to ignore), and the seki-city is not engraved/stamped, it is just lasered. Perhaps things have changed since this video. The box came with everything even a sticker but idk if that makes it anymore real. I think I will order one from BladeHQ since I cant find this dragonfly on the Spyderco website. Thanks for this video!
@@meegssan5716 Things could have changed. I did this a while ago. But if there is nothing stamped on the Blade near the Bolster/Choil area I would be suspicious. When did you buy it?
Thanks for the info, it really is useful. But dude, hold these things still, and let the viewer get a good look. You're shaking these things around like an epileptic. Yes, we can pause to take a look, but the video quality on the pause when you are moving around so much smears the image.

I’m certain I bought a fake for $30. I’m pretty angry because it’s eBay. I know because the pictures have the star bolt on both sides. The real is rounded.
What about a salt water Test? dunk them both then check them after a week? I have a h1 dragon fly leave it in my pocket and swim in the salt and no rust…..i hope thats enough to mean mine is real…..all these fakes are a huge concern! I just ordered a paramilitary 2 from ebay for around 170$ and now I'm really worried.
+Hoss Harton The H1 fakes real real cheap. You cannot make a mistake not knowing there. My Para2 video will help a lot on proving yours is real or not.
Do you know any links for the fake one? Im kinda broke so i want to buy the fake first to see how the knife does for me. If it's good than i'll buy the real one. I don't wanna buy the real one and then hate it at the end.
Sorry don't know any off hand. But this is one of those situations where I won't help someone find the fake. The fake was so bad. Real Piece of shit. You cannot use it to judge whether you want a real one or not. The real one is superb, I have 4 of them I think in various colors and metals. To get a decent chinese knife, you have to spend around $17-$20. You can get really nice ones for $50. Maybe go on some knife forums that cater to chinese knife manufacturers and find something good to spend a few bucks on. These clone Dragonflies are junk fo sure.
@@lesgarten thanks for answering my question. I'll try to find a decent cheap clone to see if this platform is any good for spearfishing (since there is no sheath to mount on an arm or leg). If it's any good than it's gonna be great kinda 2 in 1 knife (both for spearfishing and for EDC), because I know it's a great EDC knife. Thx again for the answer. It's great to see that you try your best to answer your viewers's questions. I'm definitely subscribing to you now. Stay who you are and keep up the great videos.
@@ianmoritzkrecic7929 Hi, Definitely would not get the clone for spearfishing or anything else for that matter. The Spyderco Salt series would work well for that though. The H1 steel is very resistant to corrosion. I think they are coming out with a new steel at Spyderco for their Saltwater series. It is supposed to be just as resistant against corrosion, but holds an edge better. I'm sure it won't be cheap! I have 3-4 Salt series and they are very nice knives. Thank you for the kind words.
Very informative content sir, those counterfeit actually look close to the real ones. Can you please send me links on where you source them. Thank you!
Thanks for the informative video. I have what I believe is a genuine Dragonfly Salt. I am not sure where I bought it from - definitely online but not sure if it was eBay or a retailer (such as Knifecenter). From now on I’ll buy from Knifecenter almost exclusively, because I am very leery of the authenticity of goods from eBay sellers now. Just when you think there’s a way to be sure you’re getting the genuine article, you find out that they’ve come up with another scam. Is paying approximately normal retail price a guarantee of genuine goods? One must wonder. My question for you: Does the genuine Dragonfly Salt have a flag grind or a hollow grind? Mine seems to be hollow. But I thought that I had read someone on Facebook saying that they are flat ground. My knife and its box pass all your other tests. My regular VG-10 Dragonfly 2 has a flat grind, so I don’t know what to think.
It should be against the law to make fake knifes of any kind .they should be fine heavily . And if they get caught making fake knifes again then they should be put out of business .this is a shame .I believe I heard you say you paid 6 dollars for the fake one then you should have know that it was fake .
Good vid. The Chinese do some spydercos AMAZINGLY WELL. These salts are an example of some they don't do so well. I bought two anyway because you can't beat the price. They'll be good for cheapies

The back lock on the fake looks like porosity from bad casting. That is crazy.
