one thing that bothered me since Cold War (and has nothing really to do with "atmosphere" or "aura") is that there is so much space to just train around... no threat in any area of the maps. The entire map philosophy makes this entire game look easy. U can just run around everywhere with no worry about "oh maybe i shouldn't go through this tight spot on the map.. cause i might die" ... u can just go turn ur brain off and not worry about that at all with how open these maps are.
The open map philosophy would work better with a game like WaW because mechanically it was a much harder game and you had less health. It sucks in Cold War cuz Cold War is already easy to start out with
cold war is really when zombies difficulty changed from being environment based (close quarters, training, etc) to damage based (super sprinters, ranged boss zombies, armor, and increasing zombie damage)
Now THIS is how you make your opinion known. Proper criticism of what the game mode is now and presenting evidence and speaking your mind about the art direction. Love the video 👊
Throughout the bo1-bo4 run we got really mythical and esoteric locations for maps. Since cold war its literally been exclusively run down military or urban facilities
@@murco_ id say both old aether and chaos still had an equal amount of potential since there was still a ton of huge things to do with old aether like the fall of atlantis, ancient egypt, the great war, agartha, the keepers home dimension, the ancients, the vril-ya, center of the earth, etc. problem is that activion wants to standardize all their titles and gamemodes and blend everything to be more like warzone thats why we only get generic military and urban facilities for zombies now
If I'm going to be honest Cold war started off with a great atmosphere, we had a sense of horror mystery offset by the stench of soviet interference with Die Maschine, then we had a sense of something went seriously wrong with Firebase Z, but after outbreak Mauer's just the Berlin wall, while Forsaken might as well be a linear, more cramped outbreak map. The only thing that's come closer since is Shi no numa's revamp, which is literally just the "swamps been turned blood red."
DM had vibes fs the thing is i don’t think the gameplay reinforced what it was going for in that map. same with fbz and maur for me. the gameplay style feels like it makes way more sense in outbreak, not that i like outbreak though. ludonarrative dissonance is the term that describes it best i think. ofc there is some of that in other games starting in bo3 i think but a lot more palatable there.
Honestly bo4 was the last zombies I enjoyed since at least the atmosphere and game itself had the zombies charm still attached to it. Also disappointed they didn’t wanna carry on the chaos story for the newer games. Who knows what’ll happen in the future
even though I didn’t really vibe with chaos in terms of the story it 100% allowed them to be way more creative in map design, we will probably never see maps on that level of creative scale again
I thought the chaos maps were fantastic. I’m not sure who was crying over them, but they ruined it for the rest of us. The Aether map remakes were trash. I definitely don’t think reinventing the perk system is better than the original, but I still enjoy BO4 more than CoLd WaR
I have played mw3 2023 zombies on my pc. and I got already bored of it. then I tried bo2 zombies plutonium and I had more fun. old cod zombies are way better.
9:43 misinformation, Rewind was made after Liberty falls was. I do think it was a horrible idea to put rewind in the beta and cod next, they should've saved it for launch
true, but i think it’s less of a causation and more correlation. them adapting the live service model is the reason for a lot of the negative changes in the mode, and free dlc is just part of that model. as it stands currently i don’t think it’s reasonable to say if they starting charging us for maps without completely changing business models (which would take years) we would see a sudden increase in quality, def see what your saying though
Only one issue liberty falls isn't made of mp components. The mp map is a small portion of liberty falls so it's actually the opposite of what you said.
I know it technically was made for zombies first, but what I meant is that effectively it doesn’t really matter. The map appears too similar between the modes and 99% of players won’t care which came first. It’s the feeling of sameness that comes from that which hurts the experience.
Going from playing bo3 zombies to bo6 zombies is like if you drove a Ferrari from 2015, and someone tried to convince you to trade it in for a 2024 mustang
Sucks but I think the reason zombies it is the way it is is because Activision saw 3 games in a row completely flop IW, WW2, and BO4 3 games which had amazing maps, cool and rewarding eggs, awesome boss fights and imo amazing visuals but nobody like them games personally I like them but players especially hardcore players abandoned these games so made Activision rethink about Zombies which is weird because they tend to do this a lot if one game does bad you can be sure that the games systems that were good will never turn such as CoD Ghosts perk system, it’s unfortunate it makes me think what if we did give IW, WW2 and BO4 a chance and didn’t abandoned them would we still have the chaos story? Would Infinity Ward and SHG still go on with their zombies mode? Oh well but I wouldn’t blame the community those 3 games also had a lot of problems and horrible gameplay decisions so it made players not want to play but still makes me wonder
Honestly the bo6 maps so far are sauceless there is nothing interesting it’s like they took black ops Cold War and round based zombies and then u got Bo6🤦 hopefully they will have new better features and wonder weapons and good ee cause that’s the only thing that can save them and make it a good zombies experience

Bro yes but actually no, they did a good job in terminus and we are attacking liberty falls but the truth is... if you turn off most of the HUD elements the map would look GOOD, not perfect like older maps, but GOOD for sure. What i hate is all the new mechanics as loadouts and salvage and point system. That's what's ruining zombie . This new bo6 zombie is literally DEAD OPS ARCADE 4 fps version (or 3rd person versione if you want)... Yes liberty could have more aura for sure but new gameplay and intrusive HUD make you focus on stuff that makes you to lose focus on that little bit of aura that the map has... If i'm busy minding tons of +115 critcal kill + minimap +objective +managing salvage, HOW CAN I FOCUS ON THE MAP LAYOUT? I just can't... At the end of the day, due the fact in bo6 you can turn off most of hud stuff, the problem is not the map itself but the gameplay and visual features it brings withh Old school gameplay need less on screen info Less on screen info=more focus on all the stuff around me, more immersion, more aura... (You spawn with a pistol, then you need a wall gun, looking around for a wall buy makes you to analyze the map deeper and makes you to appreciate more details, just for example)
great points here, this video was just focusing on map identity/art direction. In a normal setting I would agree Liberty Falls looks fine, even good. But my apathy towards it comes from the contrast of the insane amount of personality maps have had in the past.
@@murco_ i understand bro and i really miss maps like SOE i'm with you.
