Sound the trumpet, till around
You make the list'ning shores rebound.
On the sprightly hautboy play;
All the instruments of joy,
That skilful numbers can employ,
To celebrate the glories of this day.
What a wonderfully talented set of quintuplets
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate this a 20. The voices carry clear and sharp above the accompaniment, but not drowning it.
Excellent pitch control, inflections and harmony!! Purcell would be so happy that he'd rise up to sing the Glories of His Day!!
when I was 12, I went to my dad's company picnic, and I won a cd of Purcell music in a raffle. I wasn't a classical music kid, but because it was my ONLY cd, I would listen to it sometimes when I went to sleep or when I was doing homework. To my slow surprise, I came to really love that cd, and now, 25 years later, I still seek out Purcell's music and wonder why he isn't better known today. Maybe there just aren't enough male sopranos around to perform his stuff? Anyway, this is an excellent performance. Nicely done!
The Kings Singers have counter tenors . I think they had been in Anglican Cathedral choirs where the counter tenor voice is used.

Awesome, the only thing I mist is the trumpet, beautifully done.
There is no trumpet in the score; perhaps there was originally but then the Shore brothers, Purcell's trumpet players, had their trumpets stolen. Perhaps this explains the line "to make the listening shores rebound".
