I like the idea of cutting the cross member. Save some cash like that. I’m wanting to go from the 4l60e, which I’ve broke twice behind my 6.0 swap, to the 4l80e and was wondering which route I wanted to go with the cross member. I believe I’ll borrow your idea! Anybody have experience with a built 6l80 in a 06 silverado?

I inhaled and about choked myself. These shows have something against radiators and camshafts. They unbolt the radiator and just rip them out, then replace it with an $800 one and bang it off everything in the engine compartment. The cams they try to bang them as many times as they can on the way in it seems like. Like sayin this thing only has to last 18 more minutes and we really don't care at all

When the 4-speed auto was fairly new it needed time and public R&D, also. You're pushing that segment, I get it. But, the 6-speed offers more performance/economy for the vehicles that have its computer. And a direct replacement.

Anyway, my point is that GM in their infinite cost cutting wisdom, introduced the fly by wire throttle and torque management so they could make lesser grade components live through the warranty period of the vehicles. Until the last few years, the powertrain warranty was 5 years 100k miles. Now its only 60k miles. More cost cutting. The torque management has made the gas engine HD trucks all but undriveable in the city. My 2008 was a roach. I traded that POS in after only 15k on the odometer. My 2007 wasn't much better, nor was the 2011 that followed. I gave up on GM after my 2013. If you have a 2009-2012 Silverado 4L60E it will not have an external PNP switch and will require you to not only buy the switch for a 4L60E, but also the dedicated harness which will run you around $350. Now days there are plenty of build up options for them. I am also pretty sure the early 6L80 was the weaker one. They’ve been known to be quite strong in later years. 6L90 is technically the successor to the 4L80/85 as both were for HD applications.

In fact, you won't see that after 500k. Getting a modern SUV or truck with a big engine and lots of power for a TINY amount of money is bound to get you some mechanical issues, because nothing on that vehicle is over-engineered, it's all "that will do" to keep the costs down.
