I had the same problem on my montero sport. It got so bad that i broke the gear select cable. Ordered a new one and mechanic isntalled but it still wouldnt move. The mechanic couldnt figured it out. Then i saw this video and i did the job i payed the mechanic to do anyways. Worked like a charm!!! Thank you for posting this video.
@@PhillipBaileyI also found that there is a small o-ring on the shaft that had deteriorated, and there is a rubber seal on the back of the switch unit. These two combine to prevent liquid getting in to the shaft area on the body of the trans. I got penetrant in as per your video, then replaced the oring and put silicon grease on it and put the switch unit back on, then the selector fitting and bolted back up. Works perfectly thanks, and that oring should hopefully last another 20 years or so!
@symonthurlow778 there is also a piece of plastic that broke inside the shifter on this. I did another video about a year later. ua-cam.com/video/26uijNkDW4c/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
great videos..I wish I lived close so i can take my cars to you for an accurate diagnose like my 07 yukon who nobody had good luck fixing the "stability track" warning light after replacing the brake switch, steering speed switch, ABS sensors and ABS module
Hi bro, when I shift my Montero 2002 into D gear it does not move. I then shift it into gear 1 and shift through to gear D (as if it is a manual drive). When in D, the car drives normally, but when I get to a full stop, it sometimes slips and it sometimes drives on as normal. What could be the problem?
Watched your video and was of great help fixing my 2003 Mitsubishi montero. Nice to hear your also from Ontario.

If the fluid level is good you likely have burnt low reverse clutches. Transmission time...
@@PhillipBailey Thanks 👍🏽
Really bad design, still the same issue on Pajero 2021
