  • Tulum is Mexico's most popular tourist destination, however in recent years there have been more and more videos made on how disappointing Tulum is. In this video I explore the hidden side of Tulum which a lot of visitors don't get to see, and show you that it is possible to find authentic hidden gems such as Sian Ka'an and Dos Palmas cenote. Below are the links to the experiences we did:

The goddess of that Mayan alter on the ceremony is not Maya! It’s name is Xochipilli (from aztec flower’s princess) and is from the Aztecs from the center of Mexico (Mexico city now), this show indeed a hidden side of the current ceremony sold to tourists, are not authentic mayan ceremonies, also the Temazcal or Temazcalli in Náhuatl (the language of the aztecs again) is a tradition from the cultures of the center of México, not Mayan at all, this was newly introduced in the region to sell it to tourists, specially the super commercial Dos Palmas, sad but truth, I’m a Náhuatl speaker and born from indigenous family.

The production reminds me of older PBS travel shows like Globe Trekkers, mixed with various Anthony Bourdain series. There is something nostalgic and familiar that really hits home for me, great work, can't wait for more!

Oh how so many on line and U tube tourist influencer can learn from how this young lady presents. She acknowledges the locals, includes lessons, and knowledge for the viewers. Extremely well done. And she makes an admirable attempt at Spanish.

My wife and I stayed in Tulum for 3 amazing weeks back in '96. We rented a palapa on the beach in Don Armando's and the Santa Fe campgrounds. We were back packing around Mexico but with a car, 11 weeks to circumnavigate the whole coast of the country. If I'd known then what I know now we would have spent the whole 11 weeks right there. We snorkeled all day, lazed on the beach, and drove into town at night to eat at the many roadside restaurants and eateries. It was one of the most relaxing times of my life.

Love the style of shooting, the shot sequences, the timing + background music. And, Love the narration, great voice and commanding, yet warm, visual presence. Also, love the use of fonts. You guys have style and it feels like you are putting out fun and exciting quality work while maintaining a healthy respect for the places you visit. Bravo, I tip my hat to you two! Congratulations!

Visited Tulum in 1977. The ruins were completely open and free….no other people there that day Beautiful quiet place. Not so much anymore

I went to Tulum in 1987 before it became what it is now. It was a magical experience. We had an elderly Mayan man as our tour guide. The ruins on the beach seemed surreal like something from an Indiana Jones movie. It's just sad to see what it's become.

Wow such professional production and presentation, such a great change from the average lazy travel content maker who just wanders around taking a continuous selfie video expecting or hoping to get enough views to pay for their holidays and adventures, you have obviously put a lot of work into production even using a very good camera person to capture the correct perspective for the viewers while you present and narrate, very well done.

That was lovely. Watching this I think of my great friend Roger, his siblings, and his Dad, who was Mayan Indian. Thank you Malini. ❤

I really appreciate your efforts in making a great video and striving to get as authentic a view as possible for us. Your work is exceptional. However, I would like to say that a video or recording of a sacred "ceremony" from a "native" culture is a tourist trap plain and simple. But, I still would have gone to see it just the same! Keep up the great work on all of your trips across the globe. You're the real deal Malini. Thank you!
