Hi, this was refreshing! I quite liked your getting acquainted with this machine that I have owned and loved for 2.5 years. If you don’t mind, I‘d be happy to fill in a few things that you were still guessing about…the engine indeed has been the GS engine from 2010 to 2012, until it was replaced in the GS by a liquid cooled version with more power and torque. The version that you rode looks like E4, so they kept 110 BHP and 116 Nm of torque, but with better emissions than in the older GS. From 2021, the E5 Version then has had ride by wire, riding modes, cruise control which means E4 was the last version that had two physical throttle cables. I am not surprised that you liked the engine, it is a peach that has wads of torque early on, and a second life after 5500 revolutions which at least in your clip you never got to experience. A gear indicator comes if you install the tachometer that is available as an add-on (the R NinetT roadster has it as standard, I recommend it). Stock exhaust is a single Akrapovic that people sometimes replace, I would not know why. TBH, after a few hours, I find it rather too loud than too timid, hence I use earplugs. When people usually review this bike, they often say, no wind / weather protection, good for a Sunday blast, only good as a second/third bike. I have this as my only bike (aside from a scooter), have put 13k km on it in 2 years, love the power, smell and the vibrations and will never sell it. I really liked how you discovered the bike, and I confirm that you can spend days on it with a big grin on your face. Greetings from Munich 😅

Thanks so very much for the detailed and kind response.. I jumped on it believing it would vibrate my teeth out and be slow and boring. How wrong I was! I would take this bike anyday over a GS! It also looks fantastic... This is not a bike just for a Sunday blast. It's a bike to travel on :)

My pleasure! It seems you got to know some Italian scenery, should you happen to pass Munich on your way to the glorious Alps (it is a playground out there), will be happy to show you a nice Biergarten with a hearty meal!

It’s a very well balanced bike, from the engine, the breaks, with the right set of tyres is very lean to use on every asphalt road with joy and safety feeling . It behaves differently with the road tyres. Of course that you can go on a Long ride with it.I did it, and was a wonderful ride in every aspect. Ive been around a week for two thousand miles with it. No troubles at all. No room for a lot of luggage and not very good ride for two people. But for everything else is a stunning bike. The gas consumption is perfectly economic if you don’t rip the throttle to the maximum speeds ( no bike is economical, ridden that way, of course), as I say, a very well an solid manufactured bike, gives you confidence to ride, good brakes, noble behavior and some modern tech beneath that classic roadster appearance, almost for safety purposes. Very reliable bike. Some of this boxer engines (1170 cc) need to refill the oil engine level between services, but if you don’t push the bike so hard, maybe it never needs that extra care. Beautiful , stylish and reliable bike!✌️

I would be very interested to try this bike again but this time on road tyres… The knobbly ones this bike had did give a very different feel than what I’m used to.
Still, as I mentioned, this has one of the most beautiful engines I’ve ever ridden. A wonderful bike…
Thanks for the fantastic comment 😊
