    I've had a similar issue on my 99 VFR800 track bike. Nearly burnt down between sessions. The battery got so swollen and wires melted around it that it had to be pried/forced out of the frame with screwdrivers.. These older bikes always have to be checked through, regarding the wiring, and rectifiers etc..

      My VFR750 also did that!! Replaced everything and it’s been good for the last 10 years with no issues!! Sure does seem to be a Honda issue though!

  • @colinculverwell325
    @colinculverwell325 2 дні тому

    Some of the original problems look like they were cause by those horrible car crimps connectors. They are not weather proof. Corrosion builds up which increases resistance and heat. Result melted wires. I always use the Japanese style bullet connectors and multi blocks. All available online. I'd try electrex world for a good reg /rec or try a Tourmax one. Both up to OE spec. Good video on checking your charging system.👍

    • @TheBucksBiker-lh2nm
      @TheBucksBiker-lh2nm День тому

      Thanks for the comment mate… I’ve been told that I should ditch the connectors completely and solder directly. I’ve also been advised by a few to to upgrade the Reg/Rec to one from a 2000 R1 as the one I used might fail. Although that’s a bit of a minefield as I’ve been given conflicting advice on many different models of Reg/Rec. The voltage at the battery is good and the Stator is running as it should but I will do this upgrade soon. I’ve ordered a battery voltage meter to mount on the bike so, until I make the upgrade, can keep an eye on how the battery is being charged and how it’s performing. I’m just glad the battery didn’t blow my bits off when it boiled…

    I'm from West London and went to the Harlow site CM20. (36 miles from me roughly 1hr 30min) The only good thing was the ride although, it was mainly motorway.. The visit was a waste of time. Nothing in stock and everything is "ORDER ONLINE" or had to be ordered in to store to try it on. Soo after all that I had to guess my size go home and order online. Honestly in my opinion there's no point in them having a physical store. Also thier website isn't up to date as it says items are in stock when they're not.

I hit one in my car, just before dawn, a few years ago. Bambi has NO road sense, they’ll just dash right out into the road, often in twos and threes. probably someone tried to put some aftermarket counterweights and thought that removing the internal bar was a good idea, then gave up / I have a spare elsewhere. My journey with my 900 RRW (1998) wasn't as bad as yours, except for the rusty tank and a complete carbs rebuild (interestingly, I used same Keihin rebuild kit), and an issue with the fuel tap that kept me scratching my head until found the problem. Need to mention that I don't have original fairings, the bike had a crash at some point, and you can still see the marks everywhere. Nothing too serious, though.

    • @TheBucksBiker-lh2nm
      @TheBucksBiker-lh2nm 26 днів тому

      I also believe that someone removed the internal wights in an attempt to 'bling' the bike! Your journey also sounds like quite a lot of work and moments of 'what is the problem' just like mine! Rusty Fuel tank was fun LOL With mine it's a case of everytime I think I'm there something unexpected pops up... The positive side to working on these old bikes, as you know well, is the massive learning curve though. Thanks for the great comment and hope you are now enjoying you RRV as much as I am :)

      @@TheBucksBiker-lh2nm I actually do, is my trusty workhorse, and yes, I learnt a lot about those girls. Very reliable once fixed. My other bike is a 929RR, and I'm afraid to tell you that I kind of dislike EFI, even though is far more powerful and responsive. Last bit pending on my RRW is to replace the brake disks (still good thickness according to service manual), and may be the clutch basket, as is kind of rattling. The 900 is still flawlessly working after 1 year of "continuous improvement" process. I know mine is not going to be showroom condition, for sure, but hell yeah! that was a journey matey. BTW, I used a italian product named Tankerite, which sorts out forever any rust in the tank, if things goes south on yours, please give it a try.

      @MrJunf 26 днів тому

      @@TheBucksBiker-lh2nm I think yours and mine have the same engine (RRV and RRW is about position, brake disc size and cosmetics). Power delivery is FAR smoother on 919s, the antiwheelie and throttle control body system (a.k.a.: your wrist) doesn't need to work as hard and precisely compared to a ride on the 929. Torque wise, I feel the same on both, is about raw power when you push it, 929 pushes really hard from 8K rpm (yeah, 20-25 bhp more are there), however while cruising throttle feels snatchy. Regarding the looks, well, I was born in the 70s, so the 919 is kind of scratching some itches, you know what I mean 🙂

      @@MrJunf So I guess the gist of it is that unless you are doing stupid speeds, which is 8k onwards, the RRV/W (yes same engine) is a slightly more composed beast with the same wonderful low down grunt! What is it with every man and his dog having "Bike Nights" now? There's one just started in my (small rural) town, and I know of a few others around here. All they seem to attract is lemmings who ride down the narrow country roads and lanes at way too high a speed, overtaking on blind corners and generally being a nuisance. Co-incidentally there has also been an increase in "community speed patrols" activity on the same roads at the same time. Wonder why? I know some bikers are decent and law abiding, but it seems most of 'em are asshats who use these events as an excuse to get out there and cause mayhem.

    • @TheBucksBiker-lh2nm

      @@nickmaclachlan5178 Let’s hope Bike Nights continue to grow in popularity! They are a fantastic social event. Great way to share a passion. Sure beats football and the associated trouble. No alcohol involved… No fighting at kick out time! Just pure passion! Coincidently, this particular Bike Night was organised by the (small rural) town as a charity fund raiser for the Air Ambulance. As for your incorrect observation that most ‘em are asshats’ are there to cause mayhem…I think you’ve been watching too much TV! Regarding the increase in ‘Karens’ and their cute little High Viz Vests? They’ve always been there, always will be, and good luck to em as it obviously gives them purpose in life. As for the lemmings, there will always be a few idiots but 99% are law abiding members of society. Actually, judging by how most of the locals drive (usually an SUV), in these small hubs of idyllic privilege, normally without due care and attention would lead me to observe that the ‘asshats’ are often those that live there. They may own the houses but you do not own the roads! Good day Sir…
