Before my wife and I met 40 years ago, she avoided scrapple like the plague (I loved it)... after she tried it the first time she now gets it every time we go out to breakfast. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside (with maple syrup for me and plain for her)
I'm from SE PA and I've been eating scrapple my whole life. Scrapple is chopped up pig parts (you really don't want to know anymore) mixed with corn meal and spices (depends on who's making it as to what spices are included) shaped into bricks or blocks depending on size and boiled. The best way to have scrapple is "hard" cooked. Super crispy on the outside put still soft on the inside. I prefer mine with ketchup or sometimes syrup. I go sweet or savory to go with the rest of the meal; Eggs - savory, Pancakes - sweet. I saw that you had some cottage cheese. I'm pretty sure they must have had some apple butter on one of the condiment bars. A work colleague showed me how to mix apple butter and cottage cheese years ago and it was great. Sweet and salty. I'll bet apple butter goes really well with scrapple also. I'll have to try that the next time my wife and I go to Shady Maple.
I grew up in Delaware. Scrapple was an every morning breakfast for five boys growing up. I now live in Minnesota. No scrapple. Therefore this winter I’m going to buy some scrapple from a company in Delaware called RAPA. What a huge place. I’m jealous about the scrapple. 😎👍
Just drove past the Scrapple plant in Bridgeville the other day. BTW,......you wouldn't believe how much building is going on,...on the Eastern Shore. Everyone from the west side of the Bay Bridge is moving to the east side. Rehobeth,Millsboro,..and Lewes have gridlock all summer. Route 1 is a mess.
Everything looked delicious and I could get in a lot of trouble eaten here, but you only live once. I’ve eaten Scrapple growing up and tolerated it, but it’s not my first choice of food. I would have loved to have seen the shrimp omelette and how it was prepared. Thanks for sharing; I’ll be back to view more videos.
Scrapple is very similar to Traditional Irish Black Pudding which for generations of Irish people is a staple of their Breakfast and various Grill/Barbecue meals with Pork Blood, Fat and Oatmeal with whatever Spices you prefer…. It probably was introduced to the American Diet with the Irish on arrival after the Great Famine in Ireland ….
My grandmother, mother, and aunt were all Pennsylvania Dutch. Mom introduced me to scrapple at a young age. I found out quickly that's where the oink goes 😂😂 not my thing. Everything else my grandmother made at home all the time. Well, except for the shoofly pie. Another acquired taste, which I don't care for.

I would love to try that fabulous buffet but would have to be uber-selective because these days my stomach can only hold so much at a time. I would have to forgo the ice cream but would hate to. I've seen one other buffet that would rival Shady Maples and that is the Iowa 80 truck stop...the largest truck stop (they advertise) in the US. They say they serve 350,000 meals per year. I'm going to watch more of your videos to make myself even hungrier lol.
Those in the know always go for the breakfasts at these Amish buffets. That's because the breakfast foods are well-done, unlike the swill that they serve for lunch and dinner (except for the desserts).
