    As an update, I just received my Vello Shutterboss from B&H, and it's exactly as described - for a specialist in night landscape photography like me, this accessory was the lowest-cost yet most-functional accessory I could have used for exposures longer than 30 seconds on my Nikon D7000.
    Thanks B&H!

    The ShutterBoss is great... for a few days. Then, if yours is like mine, it will randomly stop triggering the camera to take photos! This is a great top-secret feature (my personal favorite), especially when you're attempting to shoot a time-lapse of something that can only be taken the day your ShutterBoss stops working. Brilliant! For $40 - $70, this hidden feature is a steal of a deal, especially for those who believe in quality products that should malfunction within several days for no apparent reason. Whoever at Vello came up with this handy-dandy feature is nothing short of a genius. The Vello ShutterBoss: A highly recommended tool for all your non-photography needs.

    @Jurie van Dyk The remote will automatically go into standby when not used, there is no off button, and no need to remove the battery between shoots. When left on standby, it can last for up to 2 years on a set of batteries. As with any electronic device, it is highly recommended that you remove the batteries for long term storage. --Jim

    Yes, the shutter speed would be set by your camera unless you are shooting in Bulb mode. If your camera is set to Bulb mode, then you set the exposure time on the remote itself.

    The wired ShutterBoss II does have an on/off switch. Always turn your camera OFF before plugging and unplugging the ShutterBoss II.
    For timelapse set the Number of Frames from '1' to '----' ...... to make the intervalometer shoot more than one frame.

    Rodrigo, please disregard our earlier response as it was incorrect. Sorry, but there is no Vello ShutterBoss that can active the Samsung NX-1000 at this time.

  • @BandH
    @BandH  11 років тому

    The unit does not have an on/off switch. During normal use it should power down on its own after a few minutes of non-use (similar to a sleep mode). The only way it would constantly be working is if you set up a timer or interval shot with it. If you are not doing a timer or interval shot, and it depletes quickly you may have a defective unit. If so, please contact our customer service at cs@bhphoto.com - Yossi

    I assume there is a momentary shutter speed mode as well? If the camera is in an AE mode, all it needs is a brief shutter press to fire.
    A parallel question: Does the unit subtract the selected shutter speed from the interval?
    If I have 2 second exposures and 5 second intervals, do I get a shot every 5 seconds or every 7?
    In short, I'd like the ability to shoot daytime AE exposures (~1/250, etc.) once every second.
    Thanks

    Purchased the wired version for Canon. Paid for expedited shipping which I got. But when I went to use it, I had to keep pressure on the 3 pin connector with my finger to maintain a connection as it was too loose! B&H allowed the return which was great, but now I sit with no intervalometer and $30 bucks less in my pocket because I paid for expedited shipment on a product that didn’t work. So the bottom line is, the wired Vello product is a risky purchase for Canon owners. Hope this saves someone else some frustration and money!

  • @BandH

    @geonerd The interval timer begins when then the shutter opens so the 5 second time would begin at the start of the 2 second exposure making it a 3 second interval. Hope that helps.

    Vello is the same as Pearstone I guess. I bought a Pearstone ShutterBoss wired version for the Canon 7D. It didn't come with a manual, and I can't seem to find one anywhere online. I've played with it...but get an annoying three frames shot (same exposure, not bracketing). At least this video was a little better than just playing with it myself.

    well, i think it might be the receiver. Even though the transmitter & the receiver is set in the same channel, the receiver wont seem to work wirelessly with transmitter. The transmitter works just fine with the cable attached to it. I had it only working wirelessly once but then never worked again.

  • @laurenkahan9529
    @laurenkahan9529 8 років тому

    I've seen a lot of reviewers who say that it just stops triggering their camera all of a sudden. This happened to mine a few days ago. Both the receiver and remote are on, both lights turn red when I push the shutter release on the remote, but no picture gets taken. I usually use it on manual focus, but the focus even searches when I turn it to auto focus, so I can tell it's talking to my camera. I've tried changing the channels on both (from both being on 1, to both being on 2 or 4 and that doesn't work.) I've tried googling how to get it back to factory settings, thinking I may have inadvertently hit too many buttons accidentally between uses. (I have the wireless version not the Vello II), and can't find any information about resetting it. Now that I see more reviews of other people having the same issue, I'm wondering if it's just a flaw in the device? I thought I might ask on here just in case before I go buy another one. SUPER handy when it works!!

    (with sony a6000)

    • @bhphoto2626
      @bhphoto2626 6 років тому

      No, that would not be possible. An intervalometer is designed to take a single exposure at a time. The only control you have is the length of the exposure, the interval between exposures, or the number of exposures are taken by the remote. However, each exposure is a single button press. For continuous photography usage needs, the shutter button would have to be held down or programmed to send a continuous signal, which the Shutterboss remote cannot do when working as an intervalometer.

      If the camera being used has an option to start video recording by depressing the camera's shutter button, then the Vello Shutterbosses could trigger the camera to begin recording in video recording mode. Not all cameras offer that option. If you like you may send an email to askbh@bhphoto.com and indicate your camera model, and our agents there will be able to confirm if your camera has the ability or not. - Yossi

      If you are having troubles with your ShutterBoss, I would suggest sending us an email: askbh@bandh.com. In the email you would want to include what model of ShutterBoss you have (wired or wireless) and what camera you have. We would then be better able to trouble shoot what might be happening, and whether or not there are specific settings that need to be adjusted in your camera in order to use the remote.
