I just started learning UE and jumped right into 5.5 only to find most tutorials are for 5.0 or 5.1 and there were a lot of changes since then… i was super frustrated when this past week i was half way through a tutorial and the Quixel Bridge just stopped working and the tutorials all relied on that. @@ardagenc4674 You have to search Quixel, go to creators, select quixel & with that open then search for the materials, example add wood as a filter. Big mess. Hopefully they fix this
No worries if you have an older platform even 4.28 you can download the Fab files to your computer and then just import them into your Q Bridge Mega scans

I really find it problematic how quixel changed their basematerial for objects and material instances stopping users from having easy access to features like scaling or rotating materials. Ofc you can reimport the old master material and put the textures in there. But doing this for every mesh takes maybe 30 seconds a mesh. If you work with hundrets of assets this might be up to an hour of extra work. Also, and that is THE WORST. The ORD Texture has been replace to a ORM texture. So displacement information to get via fab... NOPE THAT IS GONE. You just get a metalness map... which is only useful with reflective materials... so just a small part of the materials. Also many plugins - such as easymapper - layed out their mastermaterials to be used with the typical quixel ord maps. Which totally worked and was a blessing... Until now. +The textures now have a weird code-name which makes browsing for them in the content browser a hard thing.
You can actually override the parent materials for FAB megascans assets inside [Project Settings > Engine > Fab Megascans], If that helps, though that would require the materials to follow the parameter convention that the current materials are using. Also it seems the Displacement texture is there but is not hooked in the parent materials, as each parent material has a comment saying "If needed, hook up manually"
* Update, they just made Quixel Bridge available again due to issues with FAB. The licenses are not automatic between the two though so have to 'claim all' under both environments at the moment evidently.
the fact that you can preview files means in some image file cases that anybody can take a picture and not buy the asset, like image plane, foliage, fence, pelt et cetera
When i click on assets that are in my library it doesnt show an option " add to project", instead i see just "" you own this item", and below it "download" and "view in my library". When i click on download, it gives me a bunch of zipped files that i have to extract and then migrate into my project. Why i dont have just " add to project " option??
Do you think they will add plug in for UE4 versions? Most all my projects were created in 4.24 & 4.27 which is my current one. I installed 5.4 opened it twice to play around with, but as stated current projects are in 4.27. I mentioned in earlier comment I'd struggle through learning using FAB well that struggle took about 10-15 minutes. Again thank you for all you helpful advice and guidance it is much appriciated.
I thought I'd try the Fab plugin on UE5.4.4 - Yeah it installed but when I tried to package for Android (VR) it failed. So I just disabled the pluging and I can package again.
Loving this as a Linux user so far! Before, we had to jump through hoops to get assets added to our projects, but now it's all just within the engine. If anyone else uses Linux, the plugin needs to be manually downloaded in the same place where you download the Linux version of UE5. I am curious, though as I swear they mentioned this before. But we will be able to add a local repository of assets to Fab as well at some point, yes? I have a ton of Synty Studios assets I purchased from their website, so being able to add them locally would be super.
Just claim is enough. I found that info in the FAQ sections. It stated that claiming was all required to have it be free for you even after the promotion period ends.

earlier there was an option to rotate the texture in Tilling settings. There was option to scale it in XYZ, now Fab is only showing 3 options Tilling, Offset X and offset Y, how are we going to rotate the texture ? or any setting to play with angle ?
Random question:does using any asset from fab / unreal engine ( paid assets or free assets ) make them own revenue from my project in the future ? Or the revenue only for using the UE engine?
I am pretty sure that time will add in more and more of the legacy marketplace stuff, just need to give the developers time for them to get their stuff updated. As for the permanently free stuff, I am hopeful that Epic will transfer them over eventually over the next few weeks. You may want to hold off on the video updating for awhile.
Maybe. But i’m 99% sure that developer of the military pack has abandoned that asset and hasn’t even updated it to UE5. Last supported version was 4.26. So it’s unlikely that they will update it on fab
@@SmartPoly yer maybe , i always use that guns pack and the military soldier on new project just to get things going because i hate the UE first person gun and cant stand the ue third person mesh. I might have to just migrate the assess from now on

Great video, thanks! One question - I tested downloading some of the Quixel surfaces (ex: Mossy Stone Wall) and I noticed that they don't have ORD textures - only ORM. How do you handle Displacement? - in this example the (M)etallic map B-channel is 100% black. There is no Height map included either. I did notice that if you download the GLTF from FABs website, the .zip file DOES include a Height map. (I'm thinking about all the basic Quixel Master Material tutorials out there that were based on the ORD texture from Quixel - I guess those will need to be adjusted. LOL).
At no point does this FAB UE PlugIn appear for me. I have searched and it does not come up. I have hit refresh 50 times and it does not come up. Can Anyone Help?
I put together a new PC, set it up and installed UE5 and logged into my account. However, I noticed that not a single asset from the Marketplace is displayed in my library (in the Epic Games Launcher). I refreshed the vault, nothing happened. I went to the Fab website, there my purchased assets were displayed in my library, but they are not synchronized with the library in the Epic Games Launcher. I reinstalled the engine (and the launcher), but the same thing. I can't add any assets to the library or have no access to them. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

I found a way to download all of quixelbridge assets but I also heard that quixel bridge won't be free anymore next year. I don't get the difference bewtween quixel bridge and fab. They are simply moving quixel assets inside fab plugin, isn't that right?
On my HD monitors I see the Unreal Engine in its usual sharpness and above it is the Fab window, which looks as if there is a blur filter on it. Everything blurred including the font. That's not nice.
Fab has totally messed up all the tutorials out there that point folks to Quixel. I thought Quixel was a bit awkward, but at least it worked. Fab is beyond annoying.
Now if the FAB plugin had allowed us to import INDIVIDUAL assets from asset packs, that would have been worth re-inventing the wheel for! Missed opportunity. So for now, I still have to add entire asset packs to a dummy project (asset picker) and migrate from there to get the single asset I want. (unless anyone uses a better approach?)

Fab is a major downgrade and sellers are losing so much money bc developers are having a hard time even finding assets and all of the wish list assets that were on the previous version that took years to put together are now gone! This was Epic Games worst decision they have ever made for Unreal Engine Developers.
Where did the tab labeled fab come from? I don't have that. I love how all of these so called tutorial videos are dead ends. I've had Unreal Engine, Blender and Maya for 4 years and I can't figure out how to do literally anything!
What a disaster of a launch. FAB plugin wasn't available on launch, yet the UE marketplace was gone. The only way to get your owned UE assets into your UE project is now the FAB plugin, so if you have a 5.0, 5.1, or 5.2 project basically you wait. Can't work on your project right now if you want to import any assets you own. Wait, or upgrade. Nice.
You can still add assets through the epic games launcher. But quixel assets you can only add through FAB or download the zip from the website and import manually. But yes, I agree it was a pretty bad launch
@@SmartPoly And continues to be so. There are still assets I own that are not showing up in "My Library" in FAB but are listed in my vault. I expect to eventually get there, but this launch was like a bad Early Access game.

Fab is a piece of shit compared to Quixel Bridge. All the garbage in one place with a horrible structure. Lost so much time trying to find how to get access to all downloaded Quixel materials... How is it even possible to work fast with this shit?

I'd be surprised if they did, I think it's unlikely. They usually only support three engines back, which is probably why we only see 5.3+

They'll pop up in Fab under featured content. It's one of the main featured rows, you can find this month's on there.

Using the asset picker (asset manager plugin) is the recommended workflow for single assets.
Fab breaks compilation of projects, you have to disable it to compile your project.

Even if you used the script or claimed on your own on bridge they won’t transfer to fab so you have to reclaim them and add to library later if needed
