  • Working in a scene with a lot of object instances? Add some texture variation to every instance with this quick blender node set-up.
    In this tutorial, I'll be showing you how to add a node set-up that will randomly change the texture maps used as your color input. This will allow you to use object instances, and still have random textures to break the perception of million clones. Use this for color input, roughness, or any other possible texture input in your shader setup.

    thank you! I thought the setup was complicated but it turns out it's basically preparing the Random value to a whole number and then just run it into Greater than selectors

      It looks more complicated than it is! Where did you use it for?

      @@MVARTZ Exactly like how you used it, randomize photos but on a large scale. Like hundreds of photos, I used it recently on the job 😅
      But I hope Node Wrangler adds this to their quick hotkeys or maybe make this into an addon, because even though the setup was easy, it's quite tedious on a lot of photos.
      Like a bulk import maybe

    Thanks a lot for the tutorial, it's going to save me hours of searching the net as I'm very new to blender
    This is going to be useful for my WIP project, I just need to prepare the other textures now 😂
    However I don't understand how you've grouped the nodes together.
    Also I have two questions...
    - Is it possible to change the random seed ? I'm not liking the current pattern, one clutter is too repetitive.
    - Also, since my diffuses map are very different one to an other, how can I have my instances object to receive the corresponding normals / roughs and metallic maps ?
    Because if I repeat the process for the other maps, I'm not sure the seed will be the same ?

    • @MVARTZ
      @MVARTZ  3 роки тому +1

      Hey there!
      If you add a map range convertor after the round node and play with the setting, you can change the seed.
      Every instance should always keep the same output. So if you keep the same order for your normal maps as your diffuse maps, you should be good.

    Is it possible to create a random texture based on frame? so if with 30 frames... I would have 30 random textures from a library of 4 different images. also possibly create variable option to divide the random so that out of 30 frames, you can control the random to make it animate on 2's 4's 6's 8's...(8 frames same texture, then switch) thanks.

    • @MVARTZ
      @MVARTZ  4 роки тому

      This is a very interesting idea. I have to look into it.
      If I do understand you correct, you want to have 4 image textures. That can be animated so every frame has a unique version of one off those 4 images.
      Also you would like a function to set the playback to 1's 2's etc.
      I'm intrigued, I will look into this, if that is what you want.
      What is your goal, so we can work towards a suitable solution?

      Instead of having the mix kf texture 5 and 6 in the last mix node, just input 5.

    What a pain in the ass to do a thing that would be so simple to do in something like C4D. I guess you get what you pay for.

    • @MVARTZ
      @MVARTZ  Рік тому

      C4D is a really good 3D package!
      Nevertheless, here we always try to encourage eachother, have artists think beyond the limitations of their tools.
      If you can work faster, smarter, better, or whatever feel free to so, more kudos to you.
      But let's respect everyones artistic level and comfortzone.
